American Express rolls out 3 ‘major’ perks for first time in 40 years days after rival Chase announces reward refresh

AMERICAN Express announced it will offer new perks for its platinum cards.
The benefits are new – expanding on previous perks introduced since the cards were rolled out over 40 years ago.

The changes coming this year are part of its “largest investment ever in a card refresh,” the company said in a statement.
That means it’s the first change of this size.
However, some details remain unclear.
WHAT WE KNOW
American Express said its major updates will hit US consumer and business platinum cards later this year.
“We’re going to take these Cards to a new level, not only in what they offer in travel, dining and lifestyle benefits, but also in how they look and feel, to meet the evolving needs of our customers,” US Customer Services Group President Howard Grosfield said in a statement.
“We’ll bring a whole bunch of new and exciting benefits and value that will far, far, far exceed the annual fee,” he told CNBC.
So far, the company has revealed that its expanding platinum users’ access to lounges, hotels and restaurants around the world.
That includes the opening of three new Centurion Lounges — the company’s high-end airport lounge chain.
Each lounge has fresh food and cocktails, as well as other perks.
Soon, AmEx will open locations in Newark, New Jersey, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Tokyo, Japan.
They will bring the total number of Centurion Lounges to 32, though the company claims over 1,500 airport lounges globally.
AmEx is also expanding cardholders’ access to restaurant and venue reservations by about 7,000 locations.
That’s thanks to a 2024 acquisition of Tock, a reservation platform.
Hotels partnering with AmEx, which offer extra benefits to platinum card holders, are also becoming more common.
The card company’s collection of hotels is adding “hundreds of new properties in popular destinations,” the announcement said, though the timeline was unclear.
The company also hinted that it will make specific benefit changes for its business platinum card holders.
More updates are expected in the fall.
CARD SPAR
American Express made its announcement shortly after rival Chase launched a perks refresh.
JPMorgan Chase recently announced it would update its Chase Sapphire perks.
The added perks may come with higher fees, experts told CNBC.
It’s unclear how far each company will go to out-compete the other with perks.
Americans can get $250 from American Express thanks to an offer by the company.
Teens can claim a $100 bonus for signing up with a Chase card – but only for a limited time.

New $499 ‘made in the USA’ phone out on June 16 along with new ‘unlimited’ phone service for just $47.45 per month

AMERICANS can switch over to a new budget-friendly cellular service with entirely domestic operations.
The sweet deal is available starting June 16 at less than $50 a month.

The service is known as Trump Mobile or T1 Mobile, part of The Trump Organization, managed by executive vice presidents Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump, per a news release.
Trump Mobile will offer “top-tier connectivity” and “unbeatable value” to consumers with 5G connectivity through major cellular carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.
Customers who decide to switch can sign up for The 47 Plan, which offers several benefits at $47.45 per month.
This includes unlimited talk, text, and data, device protection, and free international calling to over 100 countries.
The free international calling includes most American military bases overseas to connect loved ones with active service members.
There are also no contracts or credit checks with Trump Mobile, according to the release.
Several other perks are also outside basic cellular service offerings.
UNIQUE BONUSES
Users get 24/7 roadside driving assistance through Drive America, for example.
Others include Telehealth services, which means access to virtual medical care, mental health support, and order and delivery options for prescription medications.
To get started, all interested consumers need to do is call 888-TRUMP45.
The release emphasized that customers who called in would speak with a customer service team member who’s based in the United States to help them switch over, not an automated system.
While Americans can start using Trump Mobile with whatever current device they have, the service is launching its own T1 Phone in August, per the release.
It will be a “sleek, gold smartphone engineered for performance and proudly designed and built in the United States for customers who expect the best from their mobile carrier.”
A base cost for the T1 Phone is set at $499.
Trump Mobile Service Benefits
As of June 16, 2025, Americans nationwide can sign up for Trump Mobile, or T1 Mobile, a new 5G cellular service. Plans start at $47.45 per month with several perks:
- Unlimited talk, data, and text
- Wholistic device protection
- Free international calls to over 100 countries and American military bases
- No contracts or credit checks
- Telehealth services that include mental health support and prescription ordering options
- 24/7 roadside assistance through Drive America
VALUE AND VALUES
Donald Trump Jr emphasized that that Trump Mobile seeks to put American customers at the forefront of its mission.
“Trump Mobile is going to change the game, we’re building on the movement to put America first, and we will deliver the highest levels of quality and service,” he said in a statement.
“Our company is based right here in the United States because we know it’s what our customers want and deserve.”
Eric Trump echoed a similar sentiment, noting that Trump Mobile would be a cellular service Americans can count on.
“I’m incredibly excited to step into this new digital space, hard-working Americans deserve a wireless service that’s affordable, reflects their values, and delivers reliable quality they can count on,” he noted.
“We’re especially proud to offer free long-distance calling to our military members and their families — because those serving overseas should always be able to stay connected to the people they love back home.”
The release also detailed that the June 16 arrival of Trump Mobile comes on the 10th anniversary of the launch of President Donald Trump’s first campaign in 2015.
There have been some other significant moves among the top cellular carriers in recent years.
Last May, T-Mobile bought out US Cellular in a $4.4 billion merger with the goal over “lower-priced” and “value-packed” plans for customers, similar to the mission of Trump Mobile.
Earlier this spring, Verizon’s CEO also warned customers of potentially “enormous” price increases with a new revamp.
