A BELOVED grocery chain that fans dub cheaper than Walmart is set to open a new spot as a part of its 225 store plan.
The company has lofty ambitions over the coming months, and plans to open hundreds of stores in the next few years.
Aldi is making a good attempt to take over the US supermarket game with its rapid expansion.
The US Sun recently reported on Aldi’s plan to open 225 stores by the end of 2025.
If this 225 target is met, it will mark the highest amount of new stores Aldi has ever opened in a single year in the US.
Aldi has already opened 40 stores so far this year already, with a huge target of 800 stores by the end of 2028.
Just in June, 20 stores will be opened by Aldi across the country.
Florida will be the state to see the most new spots, with 18 to be exact.
Matt Thon, Aldi regional vice president, commented on a store opening in Ocala, Flordia on June 5,
He said: “At our new Ocala ALDI store, shoppers will find that every decision we make, from our product selection to store layout, is to provide our customers with the best products at the lowest possible prices of any national grocer.
“Our customers can save up to 36% on an average household’s shopping list.”
On top of this, about 220 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores will be converted to the smaller, simpler Aldi format by 2027.
Aldi CEO Jason Hart said: “With the acquisition of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets, Aldi will serve even more communities in the Southeast, bringing us closer to our customers in a region where we’ve already experienced significant demand for affordable, quality groceries.”
One of the new stores opening soon is in Medford on Long Island.
This store is set to open on June 12, per the Long Island Insider.
It will be located at 2799 Route 112 Medford, NY, and will offer popular private-label products to eastern Long Island.
On the Wednesday, the grand opening kicks off with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9am.
This will take place, and then the store will be opened to new customers.
They will be able to line up early to take advantage of exclusive giveaways and promotions that will only be available on opening day.
It has been confirmed that the first 100 customers through the doors will receive a Golden Ticket which could be worth up to $100.
They will also get a bag of Aldi goodies and a free Aldi tote bag.
There will also be a code to scan that will enter you into a $500 gift card giveaway, which runs from June 12 to June 15.
If all this is too exciting to wait for, the day before opening on June 11, Aldi is offering a sneak peak at the new store.
These eager shoppers will get their chance to go round the store before anyone else.
AUSSIE cops have arrested the 34-year-old flatmate of Pheobe Bishop – the last person to see the teen before her trip to the airport.
James Wood taken taken into custody in the Queensland city of Bundaberg on Wednesday – but no charges have been laid.
He was pulled over at gunpoint while driving the grey Hyundai hatchback that has been at the center of cops’ investigation, 7 News Australia reported.
It comes just days after cops stopped the search for Pheobe – who went missing three weeks ago.
The Australian teen was supposed to board a flight on May 15 to see her boyfriend – but mysteriously she never checked in and hasn’t been seen since.
She was last seen in the morning of the day of her flight, after she was driven to the airport by her two housemates, Wood and Tanika Bromley.
The trio had been living in a derelict pad together, which cops have now declared a crime scene.
Her distressed mum, Kylie Johnson, has made a series of heartbreaking pleas begging anyone with information to come forward.
She also claimed that her daughter’s sudden disappearance was out of character.
Police have launched an extensive search effort – but they have failed to locate Pheobe or any of her belongings.

NEARLY four million computer users will need to race to score a slice of a $16.5 million settlement.
Just one day remains to lodge a claim against software provider Avast over alleged privacy failures.
The Federal Trade Commision (FTC) alleged that from August 2014 to January 2020, Avast misrepresented how it would share browsing information collected from some of its products.
The commission reached out to users affected by Avast’s alleged privacy failures.
From February 24, 2025, the FTC emailed 3,690,813 people who bought antivirus software from Avast, an antivirus and virtual private network (VPN) software provider.
Last June, the FTC announced it had finalized an “order banning Avast from selling, disclosing, or licensing any web browsing data for advertising purposes.”
This was “to settle charges the company and its subsidiaries sold such information after promising that its products would protect consumers from online tracking.
“The company also must pay $16.5 million, which is expected to be used to provide redress to consumers.”
However, affected consumers have just one day left to lodge a claim for a chunk of that pot of cash.
To be eligible, you must file a claim by tomorrow’s deadline – June 5, 2025.
The FTC said it doesn’t know how much compensation each claimant will receive.
Individual payments will depend on several factors, including how many people file a claim.
It was also vague about the exact date the money will be paid to successful claimants.
However, it advised consumers they should expect to receive payments by mail in 2026.
“We don’t have a mailing date yet for payments,” it added.

The FTC said that, in its complaint, it had “alleged that UK-based Avast Limited via its Czech subsidiary, unfairly collected consumers’ browsing information through the company’s browser extensions and antivirus software.”
The FTC has emailed notices to 3,690,813 people who bought antivirus software from Avast and may be eligible for a payment.
If you got an email with a claim number, then you can apply for a payment online at www.avastsettlement.com/file-a-claim.
You may apply for a payment if you bought antivirus software from Avast between August 2014 and January 2020.
If you need help filing a claim, call the refund administrator at 1-866-290-0165.
Deadline:
To be eligible, you must file a claim by June 5, 2025.
Its allegation added that this information had been “stored indefinitely, and sold it without adequate notice and without consumer consent.
“The FTC also charged that Avast deceived users by claiming that the software would protect consumers’ privacy by blocking third party tracking.
“But it failed to adequately inform consumers that it would sell their detailed, re-identifiable browsing data.
“The FTC alleged Avast sold that data to more than 100 third parties through its subsidiary, Jumpshot.”
Under the order, Avast and its subsidiaries was told it “must delete the web browsing information transferred to Jumpshot and any products or algorithms derived from that data.”
Avast said it had “shut down Jumpshot in January 2020.”
It said that as part of its agreement with the FTC, Avast “will delete the Jumpshot data.
“We will delete all browsing information from Jumpshot’ s databases and have reached out to the companies that bought data from Jumpshot, to ask that they do the same.
“Avast will narrowly limit who it shares your data with. The settlement with the FTC prohibits Avast from selling or sharing your browsing information for third-party advertising purposes.”
Americans can also tap into other agreed settlements.
These include a $5,300 cash payment after Retina Group of Washington agreed to a $3.6million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve allegations made against it.
JOHN McEnroe was caught completely off guard Tuesday like the rest of the New York Knicks fan base.
McEnroe, 66, is a regular at Madison Square Garden for Knicks home games.
The seven-time slam winner is currently in Paris, France, for the French Open.
He was commentating on a game Tuesday night local time when the Knicks made a surprise announcement.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau was fired despite the team reaching the Eastern Conference Finals.
McEnroe was working Tommy Paul’s quarterfinal showdown with Carlos Alcaraz when it happened.
He was alerted to the news by his co-commentator.
And the Knicks fan was left almost speechless by the news.
“That’s pretty harsh,” McEnroe said.
After a short pause, he added, “That’s a bummer.”
New York was beaten by the Indiana Pacers in the east finals.
McEnroe was pictured sat at court side for Game 2 in the biggest series for New York basketball since the 1999 NBA Finals.
But they suffered a 4-2 series defeat to the Pacers.
Thibodeau had two years left on a contract he only signed last summer.

THE Indiana Fever finally won their first game since Caitlin Clark’s injury.
Clark, 23, watched from the team bench again as her Fever side won Tuesday.
And the win was powered by emergency signing Aari McDonald.
McDonald, 26, signed for the Fever this Monday having been released by the Los Angeles Sparks.
The new arrival had seven points, five assists and three steals off the bench.
And the Fever ran out 85-76 winners against the Washington Mystics.
It saw the team end their three-game losing streak.
Two of them came with Clark out due to a quad injury.
The second year star celebrated from the team’s bench as they ended the losing skid.
Clark was ruled out for a minimum of two weeks on May 26 after suffering the strain.
She will miss a rematch with Angel Reese this weekend.
The pair’s season-opening showdown led to heated scenes on court.
Reese was knocked to the ground by Clark during the Fever’s game against the Chicago Sky.
The Sky player got up and tried to confront her rival after the play.
Teammates quickly intervened before the incident got out of hand.
The WNBA investigated alleged fan abuse towards Reese after the moment.
The Sky and Fever are due to play again on June 7.
But that game will not see a rematch of Clark against Reese after the injury blow.
Ticket prices plummeted after news of Clark’s injury.
The game will be shown on CBS across the United States.
But ratings are expected to suffer massively without the rivalry element.

IF you haven’t used your Samsung account in a while, you should probably start now before the phone maker deletes it for good.
The Korean phone giant is having a big clear out of its Galaxy user accounts this summer.
Samsung accounts are used to access apps on Galaxy devices.
The Galaxy Store and all of Samsung’s native apps, like Health and Galaxy Wearables, require an account to log in.
This can be tied to a Google Account, which will not be affected by the shut down.
However, they are often separate.
If you haven’t signed into your Samsung account in the past two years, the phone maker with deem it inactive.
The company will delete inactive accounts on 31 July.
For people who use their Samsung devices regularly, this shouldn’t be a worry.
It is difficult to operate a Samsung device without logging into your account.
However, if you switched from Samsung to another mobile brand, you might want still want to keep your account in case you switch back.
Alternatively, if you have a secondary account that you don’t want to lose, then it’s important to act now.
If you’ve logged into your account at least once in the last 24 months, there should be no risk of removal.
But it is a good idea to check and make sure your account doesn’t get culled.
Any accounts that are deemed inactive will be deleted, and it will be impossible to retrieve them.
Simply log into your Samsung account before 31 July.
This will mark the account as active to Samsung, and spare it from deletion.
Galaxy users who haven’t logged in for a while should receive an email from Samsung notifying them of the change.
Though, as 9to5Google notes, that may prove ineffective if the email associated with the account is also inactive.

A BUSTED classic car from the 1960s that’s been left abandoned in a garage for some 30 years could be yours for a hefty sum.
A 1968 Chevrolet Camaro in very poor condition is currently up for sale – having been taken apart in 1993 for a planned restoration that was never completed.
The US icon, which is one of the most famous nameplates in motoring, is often a hit with enthusiasts.
This model is certainly no different, with the eBay listing claiming it’s the highly sought-after Camaro RS/SS iteration – meaning it combines the Rally Sport (RS) and Super Sport (SS) packages – and was originally equipped with a 396ci Turbo-Jet V8 engine, the top engine option for that year.
And while the factory engine is missing, the seller is including a 1968 396ci engine with dual quads, which maintains the car’s performance pedigree.
They also claim that all parts needed for the car are available, except for the taillight bezel, which at least makes restoration possible.
However, the work needed is off the scale – and would require the know-how of an expert and the patience of a saint.
According to the listing, the car is essentially a disassembled mess and has been sitting that way for three decades.
Furthermore, having been sat for such a long time, it’s likely that some of the metal parts need attention – possibly due to rust or decay.
Despite that, the owner is looking to sell it for $24,900, although the trusty Make Offer option is also enabled – meaning eBayers can also let others submit their offers.
For interested buyers, the Camaro is located in Mount Vernon, Illinois, and the next owner will definitely need a large trailer to take the car and extra parts home.
This comes as a rare Chevrolet that was taken from a barn after sitting for decades is now in the process of being restored.
A classic Chevelle SS 396 was rediscovered back in 1994 when it was parked in a garage, where it remained untouched for over 30 years.
According to the YouTuber Parker Blubaugh from the channel Backyard Barn Finds, the car’s long-time owners, a husband and wife from Sangerville, Maine, had kept the car since the husband purchased it as a teenager in 1976 for just $500.
But recently, the couple decided to pass the car on to their nephew, who plans to restore it to its former glory.
Before that, the owners opted to invite the YouTube channel to take a look at it – showcasing its worn but surprisingly well-preserved state.
Indeed, despite being parked up for many years and living on the coast – notorious for salty air that can make cars rust faster – the Chevelle had survived remarkably well, largely thanks to the shelter from the garage.

CRUEL cyber crooks have found a way to add fake contacts onto people’s phones in an attempt to gain trust and empty bank accounts.
Cyber security experts have warned that the scam is a “truly global threat”.
The latest danger leads victims to believe they’re being called by a trusted person such as their bank, when actually it’s the scammers behind it.
This means a “bank support” contact will appear on screen, leading targets to believe it’s safe.
In doing so, bad actors can pretend to be your bank and dupe you into giving access to your account.
Technically, they could masquerade as anyone, such as loved ones or friends.
It’s all part of an evolved Android malware campaign known as Crocodilus.
Hackers can only modify contact lists of those infected by it.
“We believe the intent is to add a phone number under a convincing name such as “Bank Support”, allowing the attacker to call the victim while appearing legitimate,” experts at Threat Fabric warned.
“This could also bypass fraud prevention measures that flag unknown numbers.”
The cyber security firm first uncovered Crocodilus targeting people in Turkey in March.
But now the company claims it has spread to other countries across the globe.
“With newly added features, Crocodilus is now more adept at harvesting sensitive information and evading detection,” Threat Fabric continues.
“Notably, its campaigns are no longer regionally confined; the malware has extended its reach to new geographical areas, underscoring its transition into a truly global threat.
“This shift not only broadens the potential impact but also suggests a more organised and adaptive threat actor behind its deployment.
“As Crocodilus continues to evolve, organisations and users alike must stay vigilant and adopt proactive security measures to mitigate the risks posed by this increasingly sophisticated malware.”
As ever, money-grabbing malware of this kind usually comes from apps downloaded outside of the Google Play Store.
So it’s best to stick to apps from the official platform.
It’s also important to ensure you have Play Protect switched on as this will help pick up on suspicious activity.

USPS customers have been warned of a looming mail pause for Walmart and Amazon packages.
All of the service’s branches are set to close for 24 hours – for a huge event.
USPS has confirmed that all of its branches are set to close for 24 hours for Juneteenth.
This is an important federal holiday that recognizes the freedom of formerly enslaved black people.
That means there’ll be no mail delivery by USPS workers, impacting millions of customers, including Walmart and Amazon shoppers.
Plus, all of the service’s postal locations will be temporarily shut on June 19.
The confirmation has prompted a mixed response from customers throughout the US.
Some have joked on social media that they won’t miss receiving junk mail or bills for just one day.
But others have complained that the non-delivery day will upset older Americans relying on the service to provide vital medication.
Juneteenth was recognized as a federal holiday in 2021.
But before then, the holiday was already celebrated in several different states.
Although USPS confirmed the 24-hour stoppage, there are some exclusions.
USPS said in an operational report, “Juneteenth is a non- widely observed holiday, which means that many businesses are open and producing outgoing mail.
“There will be no regular delivery service except for holiday premium priority mail express and holiday same day package delivery.
“Retail services will not be available, except in those facilities normally open on this holiday.
“Post offices should provide post office box access for customers.”

The report also advised, “This Juneteenth holiday presents an opportunity to consolidate and compress plant operations to generate savings.
“All offices should carefully review their staffing plans for this holiday and adjust as necessary to meet the needs of their communities.”
Normal postal services will resume on June 20, it said.
USPS also confirmed that, “normal FedEx operations are planned during the Juneteenth holiday period.”
Non-deliveries have long been a source of irritation for USPS customers.
One person even complained on Reddit two years ago that their undelivered package was “being held hostage” at their local post office.
Reactions on social media to postal workers having a day off prompted one customer to joke, “All I get is bills anyway.”
But a disgruntled person on the lack of delivery on the holiday was “really annoying and unsettling!” And one concerned citizen said, “Older people need their meds and depend on them.”
Juneteenth is the holiday to celebrate the date in 1865 when the last enslaved people in America were freed, and slavery ended.
It originated in Galveston, Texas, and recognized the day Union General Gordon Granger rode to the city and told slaves of their emancipation in 1865.
Although it only became nationally recognised as a holiday in 2021, it was a state holiday in several places before then.
The first state to mark the occasion as a holiday was Texas in 1980, and by 2008, almost half US states observed it as a holiday.
While not every state marks it as a paid holiday, Juneteenth has risen in recognisability in recent years.
It was made a federal holiday by Joe Biden in 2021.
A total of 27 states recognise it as a paid day, including Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska and Texas.
Juneteenth often causes a lot of disruption to public services, with most major banks often shutting down for the entire day.
Juneteenth has not always received full support however, with right wing commentator Candace Owens brandishing the holiday as “lame” and a Democratic move to “repackage segregation”.
However, Juneteenth has had powerful backers in the past, including Donald Trump.
He has claimed previously that he was the reason Juneteenth has become so famous, stating that he had done “something good” by spotlighting the day.
Another applauded the 24-hour closure, saying, “Good. They’re useless half the time anyway.
“Can’t keep track of packages; packages arrive missing contents with the box taped and ripped. Getting to be as bad as FedEx.”
A person complained, “Just like they need another paid holiday, that’s why we have to pay so much for postage.”
However, another pointed out, “Yep, because it’s a government job and Juneteenth is recognized as a federal holiday.
“Not that hard to understand if you just do a little research.”
A fellow USPS customer agreed, saying, “Very proud that Juneteenth is getting the holiday status it deserves.”
