I was celebrating baby scan when my world fell apart – I woke up covered in blood & glass… with my family gone forever

IT WAS supposed to be a celebration of new life, but the day of Robin Du Plessis’ baby scan became one that would haunt her forever.

Clutching the envelope containing the gender of their unborn baby, her fiancé Willem was driving Robin and their daughter Shylo, just hours after their ultrasound.

They had been to visit Robin’s mother, who was organising their surprise gender reveal party, to deliver the envelope with their unborn baby’s sex on it.

But just minutes later, tragedy was about to rip the family apart.

In August last year, their car was involved in a terrible crash that claimed the life of Willem and their daughter Shylo.

Robin, 31, says: “It was such a horrific accident and I can’t believe we have lost them both.

“I then had to give birth to our daughter Roane on my own, and I’m bringing up my two boys without Willem.

“When their little sister grows up, I’m going to tell her all about her amazing dad and little sister.

“I will make sure they are never forgotten.”

In the days leading up to the tragedy, the couple were thrilled to be expecting again, and were looking forward to their upcoming gender reveal party.

Robin, who lives in South Africa, says: “I was 16 weeks pregnant, and more than anything I wanted to have a gender reveal party.

“I’d never had one before, even though I’d already given birth to three children, but this pregnancy was going to be my last baby and I wanted to do something special.”

The couple had met in June 2020, and Robin says she felt an ‘instant spark’ between them.

“After a few months we decided to go for a drink together one night after work, and from then on we became a couple,” she recalls.

“He was my soulmate. My Mr Right. I felt a depth of love that I’d never felt for anyone before. And he felt the same about me. It was as though we didn’t need anyone else but each other.”

The couple welcomed their daughter, Shylo, a couple of years later in 2022.

“Willem was the most amazing dad,” she says. “He doted on Shylo and he was amazing to my two boys from a previous relationship.

“I couldn’t believe my luck in finding him. It was as though it was meant to be. We were crazy about each other.

“We spent night after night outside our house with a campfire, just talking and looking up at the stars. And talking about our future together as a family.”

The couple had been trying for another baby when Robin sadly suffered a miscarriage in 2023.

“I was convinced that something had been wrong for me to have lost it like that,” she says.

“It had never happened to me before, and I’d been distraught over it.

“So when I found out I’d fallen pregnant again, the following year Willem was thrilled, but I was so anxious in case it happened again.

“I was scared, but he was convinced it was going to be alright.”

Day of disaster

Robin told her mum that she wanted a gender reveal party and she said she would organise it.

So at 16 weeks pregnant, on August 30, 2024, the couple drove over to the hospital to have a scan.

Robin says: “We’d brought the kids with us.

“I lay on the scanning table and the doctor ran the scanner over my stomach.

“The heartbeat was strong and clear. It was so tempting to ask what we were having, but we asked the doctor to write it on a piece of paper whether it was a boy or girl, and we sealed it up.

“There was no way we were going to spoil the surprise at our reveal party.”

In total shock I looked at Willem, and he had blood coming out of the side of his mouth

Robin Du Plessis

On the way back from the hospital, the couple called in at Robin’s mum’s house and handed over the envelope so that she could organise the right colour for the reveal.

“We’d brought her some shopping too, and we told her about the scan and how it had gone,” Robin says.

“We talked about who we were going to invite, but I was leaving it up to her to organise. I couldn’t wait.

“After a while we said our goodbyes, and we all got in the car to drive home.

“We lived about an hour from mum, and it was dark driving on the highway.

“Everyone was tired, and we just couldn’t wait to get home.”

The family were about halfway home in an area called Dalmas at around 9pm when they saw some headlights in the rear view mirror.

“There was a car heading towards us,” Robin says.

“It looked like it was coming up fast behind us. We didn’t even have time to say anything before I felt a massive bang.

“The next thing I knew I found myself on the road behind our car.

“Dazed and confused, I looked around. There was shattered glass everywhere.”

The car behind the family had crashed into the back of them but the driver had fled the scene.

“I crawled around to the front of the car,” Robin says.

“Willem, one of my boys, and Shylo had also been thrown out of the car on impact.

“My other son was the only one left in the car.

Just 45 minutes later, Shylo took her last breath in my arms

Robin Du Plessis

“In total shock I looked at Willem, and he had blood coming out of the side of his mouth.

“He wasn’t moving. I knew that he was gone. The boys were ok, with just cuts and bruises.

“But Shylo lay there motionless. Not my baby too.

“I knew there was nothing I could do for Willem, but Shylo was barely alive. I cradled her in my arms, tears pouring down my face.”

Tragic last breath

A couple of passers-by stopped by the wreckage and called an ambulance, but for Shylo it was too late.

“Just 45 minutes later, Shylo took her last breath in my arms,” the mum recalls.

“The ambulance arrived two hours later, and they couldn’t revive her. I’d lost both my husband and my beautiful daughter, just like that they were gone.

“It just seemed like some terrible dream.”

The ambulance took Robin and the two boys to hospital where they were checked over.

“I didn’t know if my unborn baby had survived,” she says. “But they did a scan and the heartbeat was still there.

“Willem had been right about one thing, when he had told me this baby was going to be ok.”

Dazed and confused, I looked around. There was shattered glass everywhere

The boys had X-rays and scans too and luckily it showed they had no broken bones.

While she and her baby were unharmed, Robin struggled with the heartbreak of losing her family while trying to carry on with her pregnancy.

She says: “I didn’t know how I was going to be able to carry on without Willem and Shylo. My soulmate and my daughter were gone.

“I went through the rest of my pregnancy in my blur.

“My bump was growing, but Willem wasn’t there to see it.

“I just felt numb through it all. What should have been such a happy time was so empty for me.

“I could feel the baby kicking, and wanted to share it with him so badly.”

Robin delivered their daughter Roane in February this year.

“Willem should have been there by my side,” she says.

“He would have loved to have had another daughter. He’d been so excited about this baby, and he’d never even gotten to know she was a girl.

“I wish with all my heart that he’d been able to meet her. But I’ll make sure she always knows how special her dad and sister were.”

WWE legend Brock Lesnar’s daughter Mya makes history after winning NCAA national shot put title

BROCK LESNAR’S daughter Mya has reached new heights after setting a college record.

The 23-year-old senior out of Colorado State threw 19.01 meters in the first round to win the NCAA shot put championship.

She is now a national champion after a sensational shot put performance

Since Loree Smith’s 2005 victory in an outdoor event, she is the only Rams athlete to achieve so, and joins her former WWE star father in securing a national crown, with Brock, a heavyweight wrestler at Minnesota winning an NCAA title back in 2000.

Mya, who had won the indoor championship in 2024, is keen to make her own way despite the talk around her famous dad.

Mya’s high throw of 62 feet, 4 1/2 inches was part of her incredible effort that helped seal the win.

Every participant gets three chances, but Mya got an early edge by making a statement with a throw that exceeded 60 feet.

At 61 feet, 10 1/4 inches, Illinois athlete Abria Smith’s third throw put her in second place. Nevertheless, Mya easily won with her second-best throw of 61 feet, 11 inches.

Her ecstatic father Brock watched from the stands as she would go on to keep the family name in the national rafters.

The younger Lesnar earlier won the NCAA indoor shot put title in 2024, making him just the sixth Colorado State athlete to earn outdoor gold.

Mya is now the only athlete in program history to win both indoor and outdoor championships.

After transferring from Arizona State to CSU, Mya became one of the country’s best collegiate throwers under coach Brian Bedard.

She came into this week’s competition as the top seed in the country after placing sixth at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Last summer, she would go on to win an Olympic bronze with her personal best score of 64 feet, 3 3/4 inches.

“Heck yeah it was. It was pretty awesome,” Lesnar said to the school’s athletics website, CSURams.com on her triumph.

“Obviously throws like that don’t happen often, and to do it on my first one was pretty cool. I just went calm, hit my cues. [Rams coach Brian] Bedard and I have tons of trust, and that’s exactly what we did.”

As stated, her achievements echoes her famous father.

Brocl came back from a losing position in double overtime to win 3-2 in one of the most thrilling tournament finals ever.

In addition to starting a career that would include celebrity status in the WWE, UFC, and a brief NFL stint, that victory culminated a 50-2 record at Minnesota.

Brock Lesnar also fought in UFC from 2008 to 2011 – before returning for one more bout in 2016

His daughter’s ascent to NCAA greatness now partially matches his remarkably powerful athletic past.

Since his final in-ring performance at SummerSlam 2023, Brock has been absent from the professional wrestling industry.

Dak Prescott sends clear message to Jerry Jones over his Dallas Cowboys and Super Bowl ‘personal’ plans

DAK PRESCOTT has made it clear he wants to win a Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys.

The quarter-back has recovered from injury and is keen to make things right after his season was cut short after just nine weeks last year.

The quarter-back’s season was cut short by injury last year[/caption]

Prescott tore his hamstring to end his Super Bowl dreams for another year, but he is more determined than ever to win a ring.

The NFL star is the highest-paid player in the League and is closing on some notable Cowboys records, but is no closer to a championship win.

Despite that, Prescott’s commitment to the Cowboys is unwavering, as is his dream of winning a Super Bowl

Prescott told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram: “I want to win a championship.

“The legacy, whatever comes after I finish playing, will take care of itself. I want to win a championship.

“Be damned if it’s just for my legacy or if it’s for this team. It’s for my personal being, for my sanity. The legacy will take care of itself.

“It’s hard to be reflective. I think you have to, especially with how [his 10 seasons] have been. Some being injured, some getting to knocking on the door and not finishing it.

“What it does really is just makes you grateful for the opportunity. Every day you get to walk into this building, you’re healthy.

“Every day you get to approach your teammates. You get to approach this game that you love.”

Prescott is facing a big change ahead of next season with Head coach Brian Schottenheimer to implement a difference cadence before snaps.

Prescott adopted the cadence “yeah, here we go” before snaps.

But Schottenheimer wants to mix up the cadence with different words before every play.

The new coach also made a big claim about his QB, saying: “I think Dak is in the developmental phases.

“And that sounds crazy for a guy who’s played that much, but there are things we’re tweaking with Dak.”

Schottheimer made the shocking claim about Prescott, who is entering the 10th season of his career.

Before the 2024 campaign, he was the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL with an average annual value of $60 million per year.

And Prescott is just one season removed from when he recorded 4,516 passing yards, 38 total touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

Prescott is close to career franchise records for passing yards (2,746 away) and passing touchdowns (35 away).

He has become the face of the Cowboys, and the NFL’s highest-paid player.

At least three people have been shot at the homes of Minnesota Democrats in overnight attacks by a gunman posing as cop

AT least three people have reportedly been shot at the homes of Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota in a series of attacks overnight.

Law enforcement have issued a shelter in place order in and around Brooklyn Park as they hunt for a gunman believed to be impersonating a police officer.

Emergency alert: Shelter in place order due to armed and dangerous suspect.

The shelter-in-place order from Brooklyn Park Police was issued in the early hours of Saturday morning[/caption]

The first shooting was reported in Champlin just after 2 am local time at the home of State Senator John Hoffman.

Two people, a man and a woman, are reported to have been shot at the residence but their identities have not been confirmed, per BNO News.

This was followed by another shooting about eight miles south in Brooklyn Park at the home of another Democratic lawmaker who has not been named.

They are believed to be a state representative and at least one man was shot there.

According to reports by a reporter for Fox 9, sources have said that DFL Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her spouse were shot at the property.

At 5:30 am an alert was sent to residents by Brooklyn Park Police saying: “Police are looking for a suspect in multiple targeted shootings who is armed and dangerous.

“Suspect is white male, brown hair, wearing black body armor over blue shirt and blue pants and may misrepresent himself as law enforcement.”

The shelter in place order is currently being enforced in the three mile radius of Edinburgh Golf Course.

It is believed the suspect is wearing armor and could still be impersonating law enforcement.

Residents are urged to call 911 and stay away if they see the suspect.

No official statement has been made by law enforcement.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has confirmed that he has been briefed on the situation.

Taking to X, Walz said: “I’ve been briefed this morning on an ongoing situation involving targeted shootings in Champlin and Brooklyn Park.

“The Minnesota Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement are on the scene.

“We will share more information soon.”

Anonymous Powerball player sitting on $2m ticket that’s not yet been cashed in – now there’s hours left to claim

POWERBALL officials are urging players to check their tickets – one lucky winner has just hours left to claim a $2 million prize.

The Grand Prize, won in a drawing in Colorado last December, will disappear if it goes unclaimed.

AP
The $2 million prize is expiring today[/caption]

The ticket was bought at the Safeway Fuel Mini C-2612 in Aurora, a suburb of Denver.

The player won a $2,000,000 prize after they landed a Match 5 (five matching balls) and applied Power Play, which doubles the amount.

The ticket must be claimed by today or the money will return to the Colorado Lottery’s proceeds fund.

The Colorado Lottery writes on its website: “Colorado has thousands of unclaimed prizes every year.”

“Most of those are smaller prizes like $1 or $2.

“If we have a larger prize that is about to expire, we will try to alert the media and post on our social media pages to hopefully find the rightful winner.”

That same day on December 16, a Powerball prize was won at a draw held in Louisiana Meraux Food Store.

The player matched four white balls (Match 4), landing them the $50,000 prize.

If they had selected the Power Play feature, their winnings would have doubled to $100,000.

The prize won at the store on 2004 Paris Road, Chalmette is also expiring today.

This prize is also set to expire today.

Another lottery player has yet to claim a $1.1 million ticket drawn on September 8, 2024 in Chicago.

The winner has three months left to claim the prize.

While these prizes remain unclaimed, one lucky player has already claimed a $276,186 North 5 prize won in a Minnesota draw on May 31.

The Minnesota Lottery says that The Corner Store will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.

North 5 is a Minnesota-only lottery game where players choose five numbers between 1 and 34.

The prize fund is said to be heavily weighted towards the jackpot, as matching four out of five numbers only yields a $50 payout – despite odds of 1 in 1,919.

Meanwhile, the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338, while the odds for the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350.

Lottery winnings: lump sum or annuity?

Players who win big on lottery tickets typically have a choice to make: lump sum or annuity?

The two payout methods can impact how much money you get from your prize.

Annuities pay out slowly in increments, often over 30 years.

Lump sums pay all at once but in a smaller amount, as taxes are withheld in one go. That means 24% of your prize goes to Uncle Sam right away. Many states tax winnings as well.

Annuities can provide winners time to set up the financial infrastructure required to take in a life-changing amount of money, but lump sums have the benefit of being taxed only once.

Inflation is also worth considering when making a choice, as payouts do not adjust with the value of a dollar. That means that you’ll likely be getting less valuable money towards the end of an annuity.

Each state and game pays out prizes differently, so it’s best to check with your state’s lottery to confirm payment policies. A financial advisor can also help you weigh the pros and cons of each option.

Experts have varying opinions on whether to take the lump sum or take the annuity.

Hilarious pics show George laughing with Louis in carriage as royals join jubilant Trooping the Colour celebrations

THIS is the sweet moment Prince George and Louis appeared to share a laugh during the Trooping the Colour parade.

George, 11, was spotted chuckling with his younger brother Louis, seven, as they made their way back to Buckingham Palace.

George was forced to cover his face and stifle a laugh as the brothers travelled past jubilant crowds in a horse-drawn carriage.

Mischievous Prince Louis, who often entertains royal fans with his antics, was also seen grinning.

It comes after a lip reader revealed to The Sun the sweet question Louis asked his older brother as the royals arrived today.

The two brothers were seen grinning and locked in conversation as the open carriage rolled along the Mall on a glorious sunny morning.

The expert claims Louis asked George: “Should I wave?”

George then turned to his younger brother and is said to have replied: “It’s up to you, I can’t believe how sunny it is.”

They were joined in the carriage by mum Kate and Princess Charlotte, 10, who stunned as they wore matching blue and white outfits, peering out at the eager crowds.

Prince William saluted while on horseback, alongside Princess Anne and the Duke of Edinburgh.

Wills wore the Full Ceremonial Guard Order of the Welsh Guards.

Over 1,400 officers and soldiers, 400 musicians, 200 horses and 10 bands are taking part in the event.

Hundreds of royal fans dressed head to toe in Union Jacks and crowns braved the early morning rain to queue for a good spot.

King Charles and Queen Camilla waved to fans as they left Buckingham Palace in the back of a horse-drawn carriage.

On a jubilant day of celebration:

This year marks Charles’ third Trooping the Colour parade as monarch.

The King requested that members of the Royal Family sported black armbands at the Trooping the Colour parade.

He asked royals to wear the armbands in remembrance of those killed in the Air India plane crash on Thursday.

Both King Charles and Prince William were spotted wearing a black armband as they made their way down The Mall.

Those at the parade also held a minute’s silence following the devastating crash.

At least 241 people are understood to have died in the shocking tragedy in Ahmedabad, India.

Those wearing the bands are the Prince of Wales, Colonel of the Welsh Guards, the Princess Royal, Colonel Blues and Royals, and the Duke of Edinburgh, Colonel Scots Guards.

The parade today took place almost five months before the King’s actual birthday.

Charles was born on November 14, though the reigning British monarch has two birthdays.

Coldstream Guards are dressed in full military regalia, alongside a huge number of supporting staff.

It was the first time the Coldstream Guards have trooped their colour in front of the King.

The honour rotates between five regiments of the Foot Guards.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer posted on X this morning: “Sending my best wishes to His Majesty The King today at Trooping the Colour.

“God Save The King.”
