Hamilton ran over the critter on the 12th lap of the race, which resulted in some minor damage to his Ferrari and a loss of downforce.

The animal lover was blissfully unaware of his accidental killing of the groundhog and was crushed to have learned its fate from a member of the team.

The Stevenage speedster told Sky Sports: “I got a good start [to the race], held position.

“I was holding onto the group and managing tyres well, so I was feeling optimistic.

“Then, and I didn’t see it happen, but I heard I hit a groundhog.

“That’s devastating, I love animals and that’s so, so sad. That’s never happened to me here before.

“But the floor, the right side, there’s a hole in it and all the vanes are all gone.”

Hamilton finished the race – which was won by his former Mercedes team-mate George Russell – in sixth place.

The 40-year-old said: “Given that and we had a brake issue halfway through as well, and we stayed out probably too long after the first stop and came out behind traffic and it just went from one thing to another.

“So I’m happy I could just finish, especially with the brake issue I had.

“We’re really in need of an upgrade and there’s a lot of things that need to change before we can fight at the front.”

Hamilton and his rivals will be back in action a week on Sunday at the Red Bull Ring in the Austrian Grand Prix.

While the lights were recently stocked in stores, it seems they are not a new item according to other Aldi customers.

One commented: “They are lovely git some last year and they have worked all through winter and still going strong.”

Some shoppers questioned the longevity of the product: “They are nice I had one lasted two years before it stopped working and went rusty.”

Another replied: “I got barely 12 months out of mine.”

And one shared some advice: “I always put put solar lights in the house under a lamp or light for two nights before putting outside I think it charges them up better and they last longer.”

Over the next few days, there’s loads of garden toys hitting Aldi stores.

Games up for grabs include a giant four-in-a-row scanning for £26.99 and Basketball Hoop for £39.99.

The bargain store will also sell a giant octopus sprinkler for £19.99.

The toy comes with four different sprinklers for extra fun and a hose adaptor so you can use it in your back garden.

Shoppers can also choose from a unicorn design.

A similar product is scanning for £25 quid at Argos so there is a chance to save over £5.

The budget retailer is selling a whole range of colourful swimsuits, which look perfect for holidays or sunbathing in the garden.

Shopper Claire, who posts under @claireeaford, filmed the display she spotted in her local store.

One of the pretty designs was an orange, yellow and white striped triangle bikini, which could be matched with some identical bottoms.

However, they also had solid orange bottoms if you’d prefer this.

They also had leopard print two-piece swimsuits, along with classic black ones.

Meanwhile, Primark is also selling some lemon-themed ones, which look perfect for Italy.

Claire wrote: “Primark’s summer collection.

“The bikini tops & bottoms are £2.50 each so you can mix and match.”

The good news about buying the top and bottom pieces separately is that you can get exactly the right size for your body.

And for a whole bikini set for £5, it certainly is a bargain compared to pricier brands.

Her video has racked up over 64,000 likes, and people were quick to chime in with their views.

One said: “I got the LEPORD print one.”

A second added: “Need to go primarkkkk.”

Primark’s social media team previously took to Instagram to share a reel of some of this year’s designs. 

They assured that the iconic store will be “serving beach fits all summer long”.

VANCE Boetler, the suspected of shooter of Minnesota Rep Melissa Hortman and her husband, has been arrested after the state’s largest-ever manhunt.

After two days of intense searching where the net slowly closed in on Boetler, he was eventually found hiding in the woods and taken into custody on Sunday evening.

The public had been warned not to approach the 57-year-old, and he was armed when they arrested him in a rural area in Sibley County, southwest of Minneapolis.

A massive manhunt was launched on Saturday after Melissa Hortman and her husband were shot dead at their home in what officials called a “politically-motivated assassination”.

Cops said the same gunman had shot and wounded Democrat senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, at their home nine miles away earlier on Saturday morning.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Hoffmans’ home shortly after 2am and found them both with multiple gunshot wounds.

They then checked in on the Hortmans’ home and saw what looked like a police car and a man dressed as an officer leaving the front door.

Brooklyn Police Chief Mark Bruley said: “The individual immediately fired upon the officers, who exchanged gunfire, and the suspect retreated back into the home,” after which he ran off.

Until his arrest, Boetler was last seen on Saturday morning in the Twin Cities area wearing a light colored cowboy hat, light pants and a dark long sleeve shirt.

Police quickly located a vehicle of interest and the cowboy hat they believe Boelter was wearing when he was last seen.

Several AK-style guns and a list of about 70 names, which included politicians and abortion rights activists, were allegedly found inside the vehicle.

Fliers for No Kings – a group against President Trump’s perceived overreach of power – were also found in the car.

The pieces of evidence were found on Highway 25 in Sibley County roughly halfway between Green Isle, where Boelter has a property, and Belle Plaine.

Boetler faces two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.

Hoffman and his wife Yvette were severely after being shot nine and eight times respectively and had to undergo emergency surgery.

After they got out of the operation room, governor Tim Walz said he was “cautiously optimistic they will survive this assassination attempt”.

Yvette said on Sunday that he husband was “closer every hour to being out of the woods”.

Boetler was previously an appointee of Walz, who publicly confirmed the “unspeakable tragedy” of the deaths his  “good friend and colleague” Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark – who both died at the scene.

He said on Saturday: “Our state lost a great leader and I lost the dearest of friends.”

Boetler worked on the same state workforce development board as Hoffman, according to records, though it’s unclear whether they knew each other or not.

The Hoffman family revealed how his wife Yvette used her body as a shield when a gunman opened fire in their home.
