EastEnders drops huge clue soap legend is returning with major schedule shake-up for new boss’s first episode

EASTENDERS has dropped the biggest clue yet a show icon is returning next week.

The BBC has remained silent on The Sun revealing there are two icons making a shock comeback in the coming months.

Michelle Ryan is also making a shock return but which will be back on Monday?[/caption]

But now they have announced that Monday’s episode – the first under the tenure of new boss Ben Wadey – will not be made available on iPlayer at 6am as has become standard.

And it’s set to be an exciting one.

Ben said: “Next week marks the start of something big in Walford that we hope will get everyone talking, and it’s only just the beginning.

“We’ve got twists, shocks, and plenty of drama lined up for a summer you don’t want to miss.”

pisode spoilers have revealed it will feature a mysterious phone call from Stacey Slater to Alfie Moon.

Stacey has undeniably connections to the two characters returning to the Square.

Max Branning is her former lover, boyfriend and father-in-law.

And her cousin Zoe Slater is also making a bombshell return after 20 years away.

The shock return will see Michelle Ryan, 41, back in Walford this year — delighting fans who had hoped to see her in the soap’s 40th anniversary special in February.

A source said: “Bosses have repeatedly reached out to Michelle over the years, but the timing has never been quite right.

“People are still talking about her character, so it’s a real coup to bring her back.

“She feels like now is the perfect moment — and there was an exciting script on the table.”

Michelle starred on the soap from 2000 to 2005, before moving to Hollywood after landing the lead role in a series called Bionic Woman.

Three delicious ways to recreate the flavour of caramelised biscuits

BRITAIN’S gone crazy for the flavour of caramelised biscuits.

From market leader Biscoff to own-brand supermarket products, you can get the sweet taste in ice creams, cookies, cheesecakes, sponge puds and – increasingly – in liquid form.

A steaming cup of coffee with cookies on a saucer.
Enjoy the caramelised biscuit taste as part of the drink itself with our easy tip
Getty

Enjoy the treats for less with these sweet ideas . . .

DRINK UP: Dunking may have had its day. Instead, enjoy that biscuit taste as part of the drink itself.

For a Biscoff latte, stir a tablespoon of spread into a quarter cup of strong coffee, then top with hot milk.

For a more decadent drink, add whipped cream. For a cooler treat, blend a scoop of ice cream with half a cup of milk, a ripe banana and then a heaped tablespoon of Biscoff spread.

SUPER SPREADERS: The main ingredient for these tastes can come from a 400g jar of Biscoff, down from £3.35 to £2.60 at Waitrose. You could also try Asda’s caramelised biscuit spread for £1.99.

As well as eating it on toast, you can make chocolate chip cookies, putting a dollop of the spread on top of the cookies before baking.

For brownies, make your usual recipe and pour half the batter into the tin. Put random teaspoons of Biscoff spread over the mixture then cover with the rest of the batter.

Make DIY Biscoff ice cream by stirring swirls of the spread into low-cost vanilla ice cream. You could crumble some of the biscuits on top, too.

UP YOUR GAME: A pack of caramelised biscuits can be used for next level desserts.

They are a triumph in no-bake cheesecakes, using crushed Biscoff instead of digestives in the base. Whisk a couple of heaped tablespoons of the spread into the topping mixture, too.

They also transform a tiramisu. Use a double layer of biscuits instead of sponge fingers.

Dip in coffee before using them to cover the bottom of a dish. Spoon over mascarpone whipped with cream and top with grated chocolate.

I’m a single mum & I’ll save £9k by transforming my garden into a modern dream – I’ve even built a shed & laid turf

IT’S no secret doing up your garden can cost an absolute fortune, especially if you fork out for the pros.

But one single mum has showed how she took her garden from dark and dingy to a modern dream – and saved £9k in the process.

Holly even built a shed and laid paving in her garden[/caption]

Holly Metcalf took to TikTok to show off the epic transformation, and fellow DIY fans have been left stunned by her hard work.

Her decision to take on the mammoth task herself came after she was quoted a whopping £10k to have her garden renovated professionally.

With a strict budget of £1k, the single mum managed to build a shed, and even spent time digging up the existing dead grass to lay fresh turf.

“I didn’t realise quite how back breaking this was going to be, but never mind, I think I’ve burned some extra calories while doing it,” Holly said in one of the viral videos.

As well as building then painting a shed, Holly also laid paving and painted the existing fences.

Laying the turf turned out to be one of her toughest jobs yet though, since the delivery couldn’t get close to her house and her neighbour had to help move it.

But after the turf was finally laid, the busy mum explained she still had lots to do.

Some of the uneven pavers needed to be moved so she can level out the ground before putting them back in place.

The patio also still needed some work, as mum said she planned to de-weed it before pressure washing and finally painting it.

Then, she revealed, it will be time for some new garden furniture to complete her huge project.

After showing off her transformation so far, fellow DIY fans were amazed by how far it’s come along.

One said: “It will be so satisfying seeing what you’ve achieved, it’s so great you’re doing it yourself and like you said, good for your body too – win win!”

“Garden renovation is a process, it will be fine and it’ll look fab,” a second encouraged the mum.

“You’re doing an amazing work,” someone else chimed in.

Meanwhile, others offered some advice to the hardworking mum when it came to laying turf.

“Turf should be staggered like bricklaying, you’re doing a great job,” one said.

And another agreed: “Best way to lay turf is to slightly overlap it and don’t walk on it for at least four weeks.”

Gardening mistakes that could get you fined

Gardening experts over at Toolstation have revealed the garden laws you need to be aware of not breaking.

While some of these laws could land you with a fine of up to £20,000 in extreme cases, a friendly chat with your neighbours can usually resolve any issues.

Tree removal and pruning: If you have a tree in your garden you want to get rid of you better think twice and do your research.

The gardening experts reveal: “If one neighbour wishes to remove or heavily prune a tree that the other neighbour values, disputes can arise over the impact on the view, shade, or privacy. “

While it might cause a row, if it is in your property boundary it is ultimately your choice, unless it has a Tree Protection Order on it.

“But, some trees may be protected by a Tree Protection Order which makes it an offence to uproot, top or destroy them, the experts warn.

The maximum fine for breaking this law is £20,000, so make sure you double check if it does have a TPO.

You can find out by contacting your local council for a map that shows this information. Alternatively, you can ask to speak with your local tree officer.

Property boundaries and fences: One of the main causes of neighbours falling out is through arguing over property boundaries and fencing.

To avoid this situation, the gardening pros recommend checking the deeds of your property to determine the correct boundaries

“Most of the time, it’s easy to determine who owns the fence as the fence posts will usually be on the owners side,” they add.

“Additionally, the height of fences or hedges can cause disputes between neighbours if one party feels the height has exceeded the two metre guidance.

“Hedges and fences should be no more than two metres high, and you could be asked by the council to take them down if a neighbour complains about the height.

“Luckily, standard fence sizes are less than two metres tall so you shouldn’t have a problem.”

Garden structures and additions: A pergola is the perfect addition to a garden if you want somewhere to relax in the shade.

But if it obstructs your neighbour’s view or violates local building regulations it could cause a dispute, as can sheds and other garden structures.

“If you’re not sure, have a chat with your neighbours to let them know what you’re planning and, if there’s an issue, get in touch with your local council who can give you more guidance,” advise the gardening experts.

Overhanging branches and plants: “When branches, vines, or roots from one neighbour’s tree or plant extend into the neighbouring property, it can lead to disagreements over potential damage to structures, blocked views, or the burden of maintenance,” reveal the pros.

However, it’s important to note you can only trim overhanging branches up to the boundary of your property otherwise, it could be seen as trespassing.

You can climb into the tree to carry out the work if needed, but only on your property and make sure to stay on your side of the fence if you don’t have permission to enter your neighbours garden.

Top gardening trends of 2025

Gardening experts at Barnsdale Gardens has shared the top gardening trends of 2025.

Matrix planting

It seems that a top planting trend for this year is going to be Matrix Planting.

In essence, planting in groups or blocks to give an effect of being wild whilst actually being carefully managed.

Selection of the plants is essential, to give year-round interest either with flowers, seed heads or frosted/snowy spent flower heads. Some recommend using plants that seed around, but this could make managing your matrix planting harder to keep under control.

Chrysanthemum comeback

I hope that the humble Chrysanthemum makes as much of a comeback this year as Dahlias have over recent years, because the simple single flowered types, such as ‘Innocence’ and ‘Cottage Apricot’ would be spectacular within a matrix scheme.

The hardy varieties are so easy to grow in a sunny spot and give such a valuable burst of late summer and autumn colour that would lift any dull- looking border.

Blended borders

For some time now we have been promoting the growing of veg within ornamental borders and I think this could really take off this year.

The choice of ornamental-looking varieties available in seed catalogues is phenomenal and, if managed correctly, visitors to your garden will not even realise that you have veg growing!

Must-have tool

My secret is out. I discovered the Hori Hori a couple of years ago and now it seems so is everyone else.

It is such a well-made, adaptable tool that can be used as a trowel or weeding tool in the garden that and everyone I speak to who have used it absolutely would not now be without it. Enough said!

Huge pop star forced to cancel FOUR shows after falling ill after UK stint of tour

KYLIE Mingoue has been forced to cancel four of her upcoming shows after falling ill.

The singer, 56, shared her upset today as she was due to start playing in Europe, following her gigs in the UK.

Kylie has been struck down with laryngitis and is now on voice rest.

She told her fans this evening:  “Hi Lovers, as some of you may know, a week ago we finished the UK leg of the Tension Tour. I made it over the finish line (yay) but unfortunately have succumbed to a viral infection (Hello laryngitis)

“I’ve tried my best to recover fast to start our next run on Monday but I’m afraid it will take me some days to be well enough to get back on stage and perform the best for you.”

She added: “I’m so, SO sorry! I have no choice but to postpone the shows in Berlin, Lodz, Kaunas and Tallinn as scheduled.

“Please keep hold of your tickets, we’re doing our very best to reschedule the dates and will update you very soon on that.

“Thank you for understanding – you know I love you all. And I LOVE THIS SHOW! And I’ll miss you next week, and I can’t wait to see you all. Love Kylie xx”

Kylie had previously kicked off the sold-out UK leg of her Tension Tour in March.

It came just over two years after she released Padam Padam — a track which had revived her career to levels reminiscent of 2001 megahit Can’t Get You Out Of My Head.

Kylie had been due to perform at the Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany, on Monday (June 16), before moving on to Poland, Lithuania and Estonia.

The Australian singer is hoping to be back on her feet and well enough to perform by June 23 at Finland’s Metro Arena.

What is Laryngitis

Kylie Minogue has been forced to cancel four of her upcoming shows after being diagnoses with laryngitis. But what is it?

Laryngitis is when your voice box or vocal cords become swollen or irritated.

According to the NHS, it comes on suddenly and gets worse within the first three days of illness.

Symptoms include:

  • A hoarse/ croaky voice
  • Sometimes the lose of your voice
  • An irritating cough that does not go away
  • Needing to clear your throat
  • A sore throat

Laryngitis can accompany colds and flu. Children can experience a high fever, difficulty breathing and be off their food or drink.

The NHS states that Laryngitis usually goes away by itself in one to two weeks.

It advises sufferers to limit speaking, drink plenty of fluids, gargle with salty water. Bowls of water can also be placed around the room to keep the air moist.

Cleverley, 35, was available after he was sacked from his job at Watford due to missing out on the Championship playoffs.

He has signed a three-year contract with the Pilgrims and will be aiming to get the club back into the second flight.

Chairman Simon Hallett has hailed Cleverley’s arrival in the dugout following the controversial exit of Miron Muslic.

He said: “Ever since Miron’s departure, and knowing Tom was available, we identified him straight away as the perfect person to be our next head coach and targeted him immediately.

“When we spoke to him he was completely aligned with the vision and ambitions of the club and it was clear throughout that Tom was the right fit for us.

“He is fully invested in our long-term plans and will play a key role in helping us achieve them.

“He is young, passionate and did a great job at Watford.

“We are thrilled to bring him to Argyle and look forward to seeing the impact he has on the talented squad at his disposal.”

Despite an upturn in form, the club fell short of survival by just three points as they finished 23rd.

The club had hoped that Muslic would remain in his position for the next season but he left for 2. Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04.

His exit was confirmed by Argyle on social media with a blunt 13-word statement.

It read: “Miron Muslic has left Argyle to join 2. Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04.”

Hallett had even claimed that Muslic had told him he was “100 per cent committed” to the club before wanting to speak to Schalke.

His predecessor, Rooney, endured a torrid time in terms of results during his tenure.

He mustered just 18 points from 23 games and was sacked in December with the club rock bottom in the table.

Meanwhile, Cleverley has enjoyed a positive time since becoming a manager.

Watford had been his one and only job, but he did guide the club away from danger to a 15th-place finish in the 2023/24 season.

He then led the club to 14th last term, but only 11 points off the top six.

Cleverley's manager record

Here is a look at Tom Cleveley's record as manager...

Watford, 2024-2025

  • Games – 59
  • Wins – 20
  • Draws – 14
  • Losses – 25
  • Goals scored – 71
  • Goals conceded – 77
  • PPM – 1.21

Katie Price takes swipe at daughter Princess’s driving – despite SIX road bans

KATIE Price has given her verdict on her daughter Princess’ driving skills.

Princess, 17,  passed her test last month and splashed out on a brand new Audi A1 in white, which is likely to have set her back at least £10,000.

She has been making the most of her new found freedom – and even went to watch her mum perform on stage.

But Katie – who has famously been banned from driving six times in the last ten years after a series of infringements – wasn’t impressed with her lack of speed.

Chatting to sister Sophie on her podcast The Katie Price Show, the mum-of-five explained: “Oh,yeah. Princess came. She started following us and I’m like, Princess,I’m going to be late because she was going under the speed limit.

“Obviously, because she’s new and it’s the roads and  it was raining and I didn’t want to stress her out, so I gave her the postcode.I said ‘look, we’ll see you there’.”

Sophie was keen to know more about her driving and if she was driving at night yet.

Katie added:  “Yeah, she drives to see me. And then I met her at Westfields on Sunday because she goes away today. She goes to lbiza.”

When Princess first passed her test, Katie congratulated her writing: ” So proud and so scared at the same time.”

After revealing her new car, Princess was hit with criticism by fans, who believe it was actually mum and dad Katie and Peter Andre who actually forked out the cash for it.

But Princess  put that speculation to bed, hitting back at the comments and declaring: “These comments are so funny. To everyone out there, yes I work and yes I earn my own money which I’m super proud of and so thankful that I’m lucky enough to buy my own car xx.”

Becoming an influencer in her own right, Princess has already signed brand ambassador deals with high street beauty chain Superdrug and online retailer PrettyLittleThing, and has launched her own jewellery range.

She’s also vowed to be a millionaire by the time she turns 20.

Her mum Katie was banned from driving for two years in December 2021 after crashing her BMW in a drink-driving smash in Horsham.

She had been meant to get her licence back in later 2023, but it was delayed by almost another year.

This was after Katie was charged in early 2024 with driving without insurance and a valid licence.

Hollywood legend calls Riley Gaines ‘an American hero’ after Simone Biles trans feud

SIMONE Biles and Riley Gaines have been feuding, and Hollywood has taken notice.

Rob Schneider has taken the side of Gaines after she battled Biles.

Rob Schneider has shared support for Gaines on social media[/caption]

Schneider is a big supporter of Donald Trump, and has given Gaines his backing as well.

“I am proud to call Riley Gaines my biological female friend,” he wrote on X.

“And an American hero of all girls everywhere!”

Biles and Gaines stand on opposite sides of the debate about transgender athletes in sports.

While Biles has shown support for these athletes, Gaines vehemently opposes their inclusion in sports.

Biles fired off against Gaines in a social media rant last week.

“@Riley_Gaines_ You’re truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser,” she wrote.

“You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports.

“Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead… You bully them…

“One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!”

Biles has since calmed her tone on the issue, but is still strongly in support of trans athletes.

“These are sensitive, complicated issues that I truly don’t have the answers or solutions to, but I believe it starts with empathy and respect. I was not advocating for policies that compromise fairness in women’s sports,” Biles wrote.

“My objection is to be singling out children for public scrutiny in ways that feel personal and harmful. Individual athletes—especially kids—should never be the focus of criticism of a flawed system they have no control over.

“I believe sports organizations have a responsibility to come up with rules supporting inclusion while maintaining fair competition.

'Mother hen' Biles

Simone Biles' first coach Aimee Boorman exclusively told The U.S. Sun that she thinks Biles will be spurred by a new role this year.

“Having younger teammates benefits her because she has stepped in as the mother hen figure,” said Aimee.

“And so she has to tell them to stay calm. You’ve got this. You’re prepared. And so as she’s saying it, she’s also hearing it.

“You always have tiny kids that come into the gym, but they’re never ripped like Simone was,” she said.

“I know she was very self-conscious about it growing up. But from a coaching perspective, it was great.

“I didn’t think that Simone would be a multi gold medal athlete straight away.

“But she did stand out because she was very tiny, but very muscular.”

“We all want a future for sport that is fair, inclusive, and respectful.”

She also sent out an apology to Gaines after calling her out on social media.

“I wanted to follow up from my last tweets. I’ve always believed competitive equity & inclusivity are both essential in sport,” Biles wrote.

“The current system doesn’t adequately balance these important principles, which often leads to frustration and heated exchanges, and it didn’t help for me to get personal with Riley, which I apologize for.”

Teen Mom Jenelle Evans smacks ex David Eason’s face on a piñata at NYC strip club as she celebrates divorce party

TEEN Mom Jenelle Evans bashed her ex David Eason’s face on a piñata at a New York City strip club as she celebrated her divorce with a party Thursday night.

In photos obtained by The U.S. Sun, Jenelle, 33, can be seen slamming open her ex’s face, which was emblazoned on a piñata, while the club’s stripper cash poured out of the papier-mâché David

The former Teen Mom star arrived just before 10 pm decked out in a bright, red low-cut mini dress and dramatic makeup.

During the festivities at the Spearmint Rhino strip club, the Jenelle said: “Everyone wants to know where I stand with David Eason and the answer is, I don’t.”

“I’ve completely disassociated myself from him because he’s not someone I want connected to my name, my brand or my future.”

The MTV alum added: “This party isn’t just about a divorce, it’s about reclaiming my identity and moving forward without dead weight.

“I’ve closed that chapter and I’m celebrating that with the people who truly support me!”

The Teen Mom star’s party certainly stuck to the theme with a towering sparkler-lit “Divorce Cake” featuring a bride dragging her groom to the trash.

The guests were treated to Adios Mother F****r shots, while the club was decked out with glittering banners that read “I do. I did. I don’t.”

NASTY DIVORCE

Jenelle filed for legal separation from David on February 23, 2024, stating in her filing that the pair officially separated on February 16 “with the intent that the separation be permanent.”

On May 13, 2025, Jenelle filed for divorce after having been legally separated in North Carolina for over a year.

As previously reported by The U.S. Sun, Jenelle cited David’s excessive alcohol consumption as a major issue during their marriage, claiming it made her life “intolerable.”

She also accused David of spending money he didn’t earn, which could have been used for the “financial well-being of the minor children.”

Jenelle has two other children from previous relationships: Jace, 16, and Kaiser, 10.

NIGHTMARE MARRIAGE

In her filing, Jenelle alleged that David would insult and degrade her in front of their children and others.

She also accused him of “recklessly” spending her income while “refusing to earn consistent income to contribute to the family.”

Jenelle blamed David for two incidents that led to them temporarily losing custody of their children.

The first was when David killed the family dog, which also led to Jenelle being fired from MTV, and the second was when he allegedly strangled Jace during an argument.

Jenelle and David's relationship timeline

The tumultuous pair have had their fair share of falling outs

Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans met David Eason on Tinder in September of 2015.

Jenelle got pregnant in April 2016 and announced she suffered a miscarriage, then she became pregnant again with her and David’s daughter, Ensley, a few months later.

The pair got engaged in February 2017 and tied the knot that September.

A year after saying “I do,” Jenelle called 911 and accused David of assaulting her outside their home. She would later call the incident “a drunk and dramatic misunderstanding” and said she was “fine.”

In around May 2019, David shot and killed their French bulldog puppy named Nugget. Weeks after the incident, CPS took custody of all of the children, including their daughter, Ensley, Jenelle’s son, Kaiser, and David’s daughter, Maryssa.

When her children were returned to her, Jenelle fled to Tennessee with Kaiser and Ensley and filed an order of protection against David in October. She ultimately dropped the case and went back to him.

In the following years, the couple sparked split rumors as the pair would often unfollow each other on social media and update their Facebook relationship statuses.

As The U.S. Sun exclusively reported, on February 23, 2024, Jenelle filed for separation from David. She stated that she filed the documents with “the intent that the separation be permanent” and claimed that Eason had “exhibited concerning and at times disturbing behavior towards [her]” throughout their marriage.

Jenelle claimed David’s behavior tarnished her public image, writing, “Defendant’s conduct has caused plaintiff employment compensation and degraded her public image.”

She said she had been a “faithful and dutiful spouse” and had stood by David despite criticism from millions of people worldwide who voiced concerns over his actions on social media.

Jenelle requested primary physical custody of their daughter Ensley, as well as child support.

She also asked for an unequal distribution of assets in her favor and requested to retain the marital home the couple shared, which they referred to as “The Land.”

Following the separation, Jenelle moved to Las Vegas with her children and began dating her manager, Daniel Miranda, also known as August Keen.

Jenelle and August split earlier this year.

The new Cup Noodles Dill Pickle flavour, launching in the UK on June 21, comes at a time when pickle-flavoured foods are all the rage.

The trend has taken over social media, with restaurants like Popeyes and Shake Shack making pickle-infused items a menu staple.

Priscila Stanton, senior vice president of marketing for Nissin Foods USA, believes that Gen Z and young millennials are especially driving the craze.

“Dill pickle is having a moment, especially with Gen Z and the young millennial audience,” Stanton told CNN.

“With Cup Noodles, it’s such a perfect fit. We have the savouriness of our distinctive flavours and then matching that up with this briny, a little bit of a sour taste and some notes of dill.”

The Cup Noodles Dill Pickle flavour, described as “fabulous” by Stanton, does push the boundaries of their traditional offerings, which have long been focused on chicken and vegetable soups.

But, as Stanton notes, it’s all part of Nissin’s strategy to tap into the growing popularity of pickle-infused foods.

The explosion of pickle-flavoured products in recent years has been driven by both the bold, adaptable flavour of pickles and social media’s role in amplifying trends.

Sally Lyons Wyatt, global executive vice president at market research firm Circana, explains that the familiar and beloved taste of pickles encourages consumers to try new pickle-flavoured options.

“The bold and tangy taste of a pickle can be made sweet or spicy in a number of foods,” Wyatt explained.

“It’s a familiar and favourite flavour to many, so consumers may be more apt to try something with pickle flavour.

There is also influencing from social media that helps drive exposure and excitement.”

Pickle-related online chatter surged by nearly 12 per cent, while new pickle-themed menu items grew by 8 per cent last year, according to Tastewise data.

Cup Noodles Dill Pickle will be available for $1.17 at select Walmart and Albertsons stores and online for a limited time, beginning June 21.

This new flavour is part of Nissin’s broader strategy to increase its limited-time offerings, which have previously included breakfast, s’mores, and pumpkin-flavoured ramen.

Stanton says the company hopes to release up to four special editions annually, although Japan sees hundreds of new flavours each year.

The success of these limited releases, alongside their permanent offerings, contributed to Nissin’s 20 per cent revenue growth in the Americas last year.

The packaged ramen category overall has been growing for four consecutive years, with a nearly 7 per cent rise in 2024, driven in part by TikTok trends and inflation.

“Ramen provides an economical option for consumers that not only provides an affordable price, but also a variety of flavours to appeal to a broad consumer set,” said Wyatt.

The global demand for ramen continues to rise, with new entrants like Nestlé’s Maggi noodles targeting younger, multicultural consumers with flavours like Indian masala, Korean spicy BBQ, and Chinese spicy garlic.

“The demand for global flavours is booming in the US,” said Nelson Pena, president of Nestlé’s global culinary kitchen.

“The younger consumer is looking to explore cuisine and travel around the world through what they eat.”

Stop using grill brush immediately warn doctors after bite of burger left woman in hospital needing surgery

AS summer approaches, people are being urged to stop using grill brushes immediately as doctors warn it could lead to major medical issues.

Grillers will often use wire brushes to cut through the grease that sticks to the grill between meals, however, some doctors on TikTok say there’s a risk that the wires could end up in your food.

“Do not use a metal brush on your grill this summer!” warned Dr. Tania Elliott, a board-certified internal medicine specialist and allergist.

Elliott has more than 66,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares tips particularly related to food and allergies.

She warned that the bristles from metal grill brushes could perforate a person’s intestines, causing serious internal injuries.

“And in some cases, even death.”

Elliott added that the incident happens “way more often than you think.”

Dr. Tonia Farmer, an ENT surgeon with 413,000 followers on the platform as @DrNoseBest, shared a similar video warning others that they could land in the emergency room.

“The bristles you see there, they will come out and they can get embedded and stuck on your grill,” said Farmer.

“Then, when you go to put a piece of meat, like a hamburger or some chicken on your grill, that wire bristle is so think, you can’t even see it.

“It’s gonna stick to the meat, you swallow it and it can get stuck and embedded in the back of your throat.”

Farmer warned that the damage could be very serious, saying that she’s seen it happen in person.

“I’ve had to take patients to the operating room to remove these wire bristles from their throat,” said Farmer.

A study published in the American College of Surgeons also found that metal filaments from grill cleaning brushes can become lodged in food.

This results in “unintentional ingestion and potentially bowel perforation.”

An early diagnosis is crucial for timely treatment and surgery is usually required in these cases.

“A laparoscopic approach is feasible, but an open approach may sometimes be necessary,” read the study.

“Measures to ensure product safety should be undertaken to prevent future cases.”

SAFER WAYS TO CLEAN

Farmer and Elliott suggested alternatives to cleaning a grill instead of using the wire brushes.

Farmer suggested using half a lemon or half an onion to clean a grill.

“Or even a balled up piece of aluminum foil,” she said.

Eliott also suggested using an onion or even a potato for cleaning.

“Just cut it in half when the grill is just starting to heat up,” she said.

“And you rub it on and it takes care of your mess.

Both videos had several comments, with some people sharing that they’ve heard similar stories of people being injured from the wire bristles.

“They should just stop selling those,” wrote one person. “I’ve heard that happening before.”

Another person wrote: “Had a pediatric patient that had a bristle stuck on her intestine.”
