Met Office issues fresh thunderstorms warning for this weekend with up to 50mm of rain to hit in hours

THE MET Office has issued a fresh warning for thunderstorms this weekend, with up to 50mm of rain expected to fall in just a few hours.

The alert signals the arrival of severe weather, bringing the risk of flooding, hail, and lightning strikes across the UK.

Brits are urged to be prepared as intense storms are set to hit several regions, sparking concerns of widespread disruption.

The weather warnings will affect several areas, including London, the South East, and the East of England, until 5am Sunday morning.

There is also a follow-up amber warning that continues until 5am on Monday.

The Met Office has highlighted the risk of “fast flowing or deep floodwater” that could endanger lives, with some communities potentially becoming cut off due to flooding.

During the thunderstorms, some parts of the UK could receive up to 50mm of rain in just a few hours.

This will bring major disruption, including road closures, train cancellations, and power outages.

The Met Office also warned of the potential for strong winds, reaching up to 50mph, which could exacerbate the impact of the storms.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin commented that the day would start off “hot and humid,” with some areas of the country potentially seeing temperatures climb as high as 30°C.

However, conditions will soon change, with thunderstorms beginning around 2pm in Wales and the South West, spreading to other areas later in the day.

Parts of southern England, including London, could see temperatures remain as high as 28°C on Friday evening, though the heat will quickly give way to more unsettled weather.

With 30–50mm of rain expected in some areas before the storms ease early on Saturday, residents across Greater London, Plymouth, Bath, Brighton, Norwich, and parts of the South East are advised to remain alert.

Cardiff and other southern regions could experience the heaviest downpours, with some areas possibly receiving up to 80mm of rain.

This level of rainfall is likely to cause significant surface water flooding, making driving conditions dangerous and leading to the risk of accidents.

The situation has already caused significant flooding in parts of the South West, particularly in Plymouth, where local residents battled knee-deep water.

The storms have already resulted in closures, with some roads, such as Gdynia Way and Kings Street, shut down due to flooding.

The Theatre Royal in Plymouth has also closed its doors as a result of flood damage.

James Mackenzie-Blackman, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of TRP, stated: “The torrential rain has required us to close the Theatre Royal today as we continue to deal with a significant flood into our basement.

Our priority is the safety of our staff, our artists, visitors and participants.”

In addition to the potential flooding, strong winds of up to 50mph are expected to cause problems along coasts and hills, further complicating the situation for drivers and emergency services.

Local authorities have advised caution when travelling, particularly in affected areas, as there may be delays and possible cancellations to train and bus services.

The disruption could continue into the weekend, particularly in areas where floodwater lingers.

The Met Office has issued a warning about the increased risk of power cuts, especially in areas where storms bring lightning strikes.

Residents are urged to be prepared for the possibility of service interruptions, with some homes and businesses potentially losing power due to the extreme weather.

This follows Friday’s amber weather warning for thunderstorms, hail, and lightning strikes.

The public is encouraged to monitor the weather closely and take precautions to protect themselves and their property.

New CarPlay Ultra transforms your dash – and ditches the tech that drives us mad

SOMETHING a bit different. It’s not a car review. It’s a world-first look at Apple CarPlay Ultra.

Most of you with a newish car will hook up your iPhone and use the central touchscreen for music and maps.

Apple’s first motoring collab is with Aston Martin – but expect CarPlay Ultra in more motors soon

There’s some cool updates on the central touchscreen too

CarPlay Ultra allows you to use two screens. So you can have Waze or Apple Maps filling the driver’s display in front of you.

Finally.

Apple’s first collab is actually with Aston Martin but you can guarantee CarPlay Ultra will be popping up in other motors in the near future

There’s some cool updates on the central touchscreen too.

Swipe right for an Apple Watch-style dashboard with up/down toggles for weather, clock, calendar and more.

There’s a simple button to deactivate the bloody annoying driving assistance tech. We like that too.

Plus, car-specific buttons for hill descent control and noisy exhaust mode.

Radio station favourites are linked to your device. So when you’re driving you’ve got talkSPORT and when your partner’s at the wheel they’ve got Magic FM. Or vice versa.

It’s all very slick. All very easy. All very Apple. No handbook required.

The funny thing is, when the DBX arrived in 2020 it didn’t even have a touchscreen. Now it’s top of the class. Dreamy lines. V8 engine. Cutting-edge tech. Aston Martin is on it.

Horse racing tips: ‘He’s rising the ranks and has a top jockey booked’ – Templegate’s NAP a supreme stayer at York

TEMPLEGATE takes on Saturday’s racing confident of slamming in some winners and building the bank for Royal Ascot.

Back a horse by clicking their odds below.

ALSAKIB (3.00 York, nap)

He rose through the staying ranks last season and put in his best effort at this track. He ran well on his comeback in the Yorkshire Cup last month and can improve from there.

HOLD A DREAM (2.40 Sandown, nb)

He’ll enjoy dropping to five furlongs after showing lots of pace at Newbury last time but just failing to get home. That was his turf comeback and there’s more to come.

HEATHEN (2.25 York, treble)

He runs off a much lower mark on turf compared to the all-weather and can make the most of it under experienced pilot Serena Brotherton.

The Valley star Kristen Doute gives birth to first child with fiancé Luke Broderick and reveals baby girl’s special name

THE VALLEY star Kristen Doute has given birth to her first child with fiancé Luke Broderick and revealed the baby girl’s name in sweet new photos.

After documenting her difficult pregnancy journey during both seasons of the Bravo show, fans were thrilled for the Vanderpump Rules alum when she announced she was expecting her first child.

Kristen, 42, and Luke, 34, announced the exciting news on Friday in an Instagram post that showed off the baby girl’s tiny hand.

In the photo, Kristen can be seen grabbing her daughter’s hand as Luke’s fingers also held onto their newborn.

“Kaia Lily Broderick, we’ve never known a love like this until you,” she captioned the post.

They chose Kaia’s name, which is Hawaiian for “the sea,” due to the couple’s love for the state, which is also where they got engaged.

“We knew we wanted our baby’s name to have something to do, or revolve around, water.

“Lillies are my favorite flower. They’re associated with new beginnings, beauty.

“And also the name Lily indicates a ‘gentle and compassionate nature’, suggesting a kind and caring personality,” the VPR star told Us Weekly.

Kristen then gushed about becoming a mama: “She’s here, and we still can’t believe it. Luke is even hotter as a dad, and I just feel so lucky.

“And even though I haven’t slept or showered in two days, seeing our daughter and finally being able to hold her makes it all worth it.

“We’re completely overwhelmed with love and so grateful for her— our lives are already changed completely,” she exclaimed.

They revealed they officially welcomed their baby girl on Wednesday, June 11.

DIFFICULT ROAD

The couple announced their pregnancy in November 2024 following a heartbreaking miscarriage.

“After our pregnancy loss last year, we decided to start trying in early 2024,” Kristen said when announcing the big news.

The reality star continued: “I knew my age could be a factor in conceiving, so Luke and I discussed going for an extra push, a little help.

“In late summer, we decided to meet with a fertility specialist to learn about our options and what could be the next step if we decided to go that route.

“The next month was a whirlwind — getting educated on fertility, and eventually hormone shots and preparing my body for IUI (intrauterine insemination).

“To get a correct outcome on a pregnancy test, 2 weeks time had to pass and I had to wait it out but in my heart I knew it had worked.

“I tested one day early and got the big PREGNANT result staring back at me.”

‘OVERWHELMED, HAPPY, EXCITED’

She admitted once she got the exciting plus sign, she felt “relieved, overwhelmed, happy, excited and nervous.”

“The second I told Luke, he wasn’t surprised, but was SO happy that IUI worked the first time (we were prepared that it may not).

“He was joyful and beyond excited, to say the least! Our due date is in June and we are really looking forward to expanding our little family and becoming parents,” she gushed.

In December, the happy news only continued when the couple announced they would be adding a baby girl to their growing family.

The Cast of The Valley

She gushed in a statement to People: “Luke and I are so thrilled to be having a little girl, which honestly was unexpected because I was convinced we were having a boy!

“To find out in the way that we did, to have Brittany [Cartwright] be the one who shared the news from our doctor could not have been more perfect.

“It was really special to have our family and friends from out of town ‘be there’ virtually. We are so excited for this next chapter in our lives together and to soon welcome our baby girl next summer.”

Kristen’s The Valley co-star, Brittany, 36, hosted a gender reveal party for the parents-to-be, which included pink smoke blowing from the backyard to signify their daughter.

In photos from her Instagram page, Kristen showed off adorable photos of her baby girl’s nursery.

Going for an “ethereal” vibe, Kristen decorated the cute space with a bohemian rug, natural-wood crib, green bookcase and a playmat.

As The U.S. Sun previously reported, the couple moved out of their apartment last August and into a large three-bedroom family home in Valley Village in anticipation of their little one.
