THIS is the horrific moment a two-year-old child accidentally shoots his mum dead after picking up his dad’s gun and playing with it.
Video footage of Friday’s tragedy showed the boy grabbing the firearm from a table before pulling the trigger as his mum turned to look at him.
The couple, who were at their home in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul at the time, appeared so deep in conversation that they failed to notice their son holding the Glock 9mm pistol.
In a video captured by a home security camera, the victim is caught being shot in the chest and arm.
She initially seemed to have survived the shooting but after briefly standing up to examine her wounds she is quickly seen falling to the ground.
In a state of shock the youngster is captured running to his mum’s aid as his dad grabs the lethal weapon from the floor.
The 27-year-old woman has been named locally as Deborah Rodrigues Monteiro and has been pictured in Brazilian media.
Police have launched an urgent investigation into the incident and have confirmed the husband, a farmer who had a licence for the weapon, will face manslaughter charges.
It has not yet been established whether the young boy will remain under the care of his dad or if he will be taken into social services.
Local police chief Danielle Felismino confirmed the gunshot victim had been taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The weapon she was killed with and ammunition has been seized by detectives.
The autopsy is understood to have taken place yesterday morning although the results have not yet been made public.
Devastated locals jumped to social media to offer their condolences and share their support with the family.
One commenter wrote: “My condolences to the family and friends. How sad!”
Whilst another added: “My deepest condolences to the family and friends at such a difficult moment.”
This isn’t the first time a tragic accident like this has taken place.
In June 2023, pregnant Ohio mother Laura Ilg and her unborn baby were killed after her toddler accidentally shot her in the back.
Police said afterwards that the two-year-old boy had retrieved the gun from a nightstand inside a room that’s door had accidentally been left open.
The fatal incident also comes as a six-year-old was caught drowning in a pool as his cousin watched on helplessly.
Shocking footage showed the boy desperately trying to stay afloat before a quick-thinking stranger leapt into the water to help him.

The six-year-old boy named Oscar is seen jumping onto a blue inflatable sunbed before losing his balance and falling into the water.
Seemingly unable to swim, he is seen flailing his arms around in a failed attempt to tread water.
Standing on the side of the pool, his cousin realises he can’t do anything as he does not know how to swim either.
Desperate to help his drowning relative, the adult cousin tries dipping his feet in the water, in an attempt to get himself into the water too.
But he hesitates a few times when he realises he would also end up drowning.

A “flat pack” two-story tiny home is available from Walmart for $22,949.
Tiny homes have boomed in popularity in the United States over the past decade, mainly down to affordability and sustainability reasons, and the desire for minimalist living.
They offer a path to homeownership for those unable to afford larger properties or who wish to avoid debt.
Millennials and Generation X are the primary adopters of tiny homes, with the majority of tiny home dwellers being between 30 and 50 years old.
The tiny home market has grown over the past decade, and is projected to reach $23.7 billion by 2026.
Technically, a tiny home is any house measuring under 400 square feet.
Many tiny homes are built on trailers so they can be towed anywhere, and some are converted from old school buses or vans.
Each state has its own rules about tiny homes, but, generally, they are not subject to the same taxes as regular homes.
However, Alaska, Iowa, Louisiana, North Dakota, New Jersey, New York, Wisconsin, and West Virginia have made tiny homes illegal as permanent dwellings.
A BELOVED grocery store that some have dubbed “cheaper than Walmart” has revealed the exact dates for five new store openings.
The store has experienced massive growth, and is securing its footprint in specific states with this expansion.
The US Sun reported on the moves being made by grocery retailer Wegmans, following their 100th store going up back in 2019.
Wegmans has around 112 stores across eight states in the US, including Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
So far this year, Wegmans has opened a store in Lake Grove, New York, on February 26.
That is just the kick off point for a few more Wegmans stores coming out over the coming months.
Next up for Wegmans is a store in Rockville, Maryland on June 25, which will be it’s ninth location in the state.
The store will measure at 80,000 square-feet.
Just under a monthly after that, Wegmans is coming to Connecticut for the first time.
The store is opening in Norwalk and will span 92,000-square-feet.
Then, moving into 2026, there are plans to open in Charlotte, North Carolina and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Opening dates for these stores have not been announced yet, however.
Despite the uncertainty, there is real excitement for the upcoming Wegmans stores hitting in 2026.
Dan Aken, vice president of real estate and store planning at Wegmans, revealed that the company has had requests to come to Pittsburgh for years.
He said: “We’ve received thousands of requests for a Wegmans in the Pittsburgh region since opening our first Pennsylvania store over 30 years ago.
“We’re excited to have finally found the right location to bring Wegmans to the Pittsburgh area.”
On social media, shoppers have been signing the praises of Wegmans, claiming it to be better than Walmart, one of the biggest names in the game.
One post online even claimed: “That moment you find out that Wegmans might be cheaper than Walmart.”
Locals in all of the areas getting a new Wegmans can expect plenty of new jobs to come to the community.
Each of the new stores will create about 400 to 500 jobs for local residents.
And if you do end up working at one, chances are you will meet the CEO personally, given their pledge.
CEO Colleen Wegman said: “It’s our goal to visit every store at least once a year because we want a personal relationship with our store management.
“Our grandfather started that tradition, so we like to stay small enough where we can still do that.”
