CHELSEA ace Djordje Petrovic asked to be left out of the Club World Cup squad to focus on his future.

Petrovic, 25, enjoyed a successful loan stint at Strasbourg this past season and recently returned to the Blues’ squad.

And following his impressive performances in Ligue 1 the goalkeeper wants to be a guaranteed starter, something the West Londoners cannot offer him.

According to The Telegraph, that is why the Serbia international asked to be omitted from manager Enzo Maresca’s squad for the Club World Cup.

Chelsea chiefs understand Petrovic’s position and thus relations between the player and the club remain good.

Thus, both parties agreed that Petrovic would be best served trying to sort out his future instead of travelling to the US.

The West Londoners could revisit their attempt to sign the France international when the summer transfer window reopens on June 16.

In an announcement at the end of May, Starbucks confirmed its search for two “talented content creators” who are “passionate about Starbucks, coffee, culture and community.”

The official title for the role is Global Coffee Creator, with two slots available — one is for a current Starbucks employee, and the other an external candidate.

As Global Coffee Creators, the pair would travel the world, heading to at least 15 Starbucks coffeehouses globally while documenting “the care and craft that goes into every cup of Starbucks coffee.”

Along with visiting the international locations, like the Tokyo or Milan Reserve Rostaries, the Global Coffee Creator job would involve speaking and sharing the stories of farmers, baristas, designers, and customers through social content.

This would be video-based content, with responsibilities ranging from highlighting the Starbucks community, culture, menu items, specialty drinks, and more.

The Global Coffee Creators would also work directly with Starbucks global marketing team.

“This is more than a job; it’s a chance to immerse yourself in the world of coffee, meet new people and see new places,” Starbucks emphasized.

“If you’re ready to back your bags and share the Starbucks experience through a fresh lens, we’d love to hear from you.”

Those interested must remember that it’s only a year-long role that extends from August 2025 through July 2026.

Shockingly, no previous work experience or even a college diploma is required to be considered.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

Some basic requirements include being 18 years or older with a high school diploma, a US resident, having a valid passport, having the ability to travel frequently, and have all required vaccinations, among a few others detailed on Starbucks’ website.

Other qualifications include a passion for coffee and traveling, an ability to be creative and think of the best ways to tell stories, and proficiency in social media platforms and editing tools like TikTok, CapCut, InDesign, Final Cut Pro, and more.

Starbucks also wants candidates to be able to work independently, be comfortable on camera, and have a healthy knowledge of the company.

As far as perks and benefits go, the pay is competitive at between $80,100 and $136,000.

Additionally, the Global Coffee Creators work fully remote from wherever they are around the world.

It’s also a full-time role with health and wellness benefits, paid time off, and there’s even travel cost coverage through the company and its partnerships with Delta Air Lines and Marriott Bonvoy.

TIME’S RUNNING OUT

Internal or external candidates interested must act fast to apply using the form on the Starbucks Career website.

The deadline is set for June 13, 2025.

Additionally, prospective candidates must post a video publicly to their TikTok page explaining to Starbucks why they’re ideal for the role.

It should include “#StarbucksGlobalCoffeeCreator” in the caption.

Starbucks has also caught attention for other reasons recently.

Earlier in June, the coffeehouse chain confirmed a major update to over 6,500 locations as fans fear it’s a “potential omen in the US.”

A Frito-Lay manufacturing plant has left hundreds of employees without a job, as reported by a Los Angeles news outlet, KTLA.

In a statement regarding the layoffs, a spokesperson for PepsiCo Foods U.S., the parent company of Frito-Lay, confirmed that production at the Rancho Cucamonga facility has halted.

“We are truly grateful for all the support over the last five decades from our Rancho Cucamonga manufacturing team as well as the local community,” a statement reads.

The company said it is dedicated to helping workers who were affected by the sudden pause in manufacturing and will provide severance pay.

Despite the company’s “commitment” to those impacted, KTLA reported that hundreds of workers were let go without the opportunity to transfer to different departments within the company.

It is unclear how much money was included in the severance pay or how many exact employees were affected.

Although production has ceased, the plant will still have warehouse, distribution, fleet, and transportation teams who will operate out of the location.

Over the decades, the Frito-Lay facility has operated in California and employed thousands of workers.

BIG CHANGES AHEAD

As of mid-2025, Frito-Lay’s performance is mixed, facing some challenges in the North American market while also pursuing strategic adjustments and new product launches.

PepsiCo’s first-quarter 2025 results showed a decline in food sales in North America, with Frito-Lay contributing to this weakness.

With the losses, the company is looking to make significant changes in order to boost sales and consumer interest.

Frito-Lay is launching new products in 2025, including Spicy Dill Pickle Ruffles and various Doritos, Cheetos, Ruffles, and SunChips flavors.

At the same time, several snacks are reportedly being discontinued in 2025, including Flamin’ Hot White Cheddar Smart Food, Ruffles Lime & Jalapeno, and others.

POWER STRUGGLE

A former employee, Richard Montañez, claimed he invented Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, which has been strongly denied by the company.

Montañez says he came up with the idea while working as a janitor, taking unflavored Cheetos home and experimenting with seasonings inspired by Mexican street corn.

He claims to have pitched the idea to Frito-Lay CEO Roger Enrico and received a meeting.

Frito-Lay with went against that claim, telling the Los Angeles Times that “the facts do not support the urban legend” for their investigation four years ago.

The origin of the snack remains in limbo as a federal judge dismissed the lawsuit filed by Montañez.

U.S. District Judge John W. Holcomb ruled that the ex-employee’s accusations of fraud and defamation did not have sufficient “factual support.”

Frito-Lay did not immediately respond to The U.S. Sun’s request for comment.

The Governor accused Trump of manufacturing the flare-ups, saying his actions were “akin to authoritarian regimes” – and was dismissed as “incompetent” in return.

He vowed his state is “suing Donald Trump” for “creating fear and terror to […] violate the US constitution”.

Trump has previously toyed with the idea of arresting Newsom, and refused to rule it out in an interview with the New York Post.

Trump’s border czar Tom Homan had warned that anyone, including public officials, would be arrested if they obstructed federal law enforcement.

On Sunday, Newsom goaded Trump over the threats, saying in a MSNBC interview: “Come after me, arrest me. Let’s just get it over with, tough guy.”

Asked directly if he is going to arrest and charge Gavin Newsom, Trump said: “Well, he’s not doing a good job.

“In theory you could, I guess. It’s almost like a dissipation of duties. Nobody’s ever seen anything like it.”

Before Wednesday’s interview, Newsom shared his thoughts on the arrest threats.

He said: “The President of the United States just called for the arrest of a sitting Governor.

“This is a day I hoped I would never see in America. I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican this is a line we cannot cross as a nation this is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.”

Trump follow up with a brutal takedown of Newsom’s record in office – which included blaming him for the devastating wild fires that ravaged parts of LA in January.

Trump said: “First he had his wildfires that burned down half the place […] I told them water, get the water from the pacific north west […] I got the water to go down.

“They were using environmental as a reason not to give water. They were protecting a certain type of fish – which by the way has not done well.

“He should have done it [redirected the water supply] in my first term. You wouldn’t have had the fires.”

Interviewer Miranda Devine then asked about a much-disputed phone call between Trump and Newsom – with each swearing to a different version of events.

The President claimed he rang to discuss sending in National Guardsmen – but Newsom branded him a “stone-cold liar”.

Newsom insists he “kept trying to bring up” the situation in LA, but that Trump veered onto other subjects.

However, Trump doubled down today and said: “Of course I did [talk about it]. The phone call was to deploy the troops.

“I said: ‘You’re city is burning down, your state is in bad trouble.’

“All I want is him to do a good job […] he’s doing a poor job.”

In an effort to checkmate Newsom, Trump brandished a screenshot showing a 16-minute call between the two at 1:23am on June 7.

Newsom does not dispute that the call happened – but maintains that Trump “never once brought up the National Guard”.

Trump landed other personal jibes, mocking the California High-Speed Rail project which has run over budget and claiming that, without him, Newsom “wouldn’t have LA”.

He said: “Between the fires and the riots, there would be nothing left. You have a governor that’s incompetent, a mayor that’s highly incompetent.”

FIFA Club World Cup will be guarded by “suited and booted” ICE and DHS agents, officials have warned.

The mammoth event’s opening ceremony takes place at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.

The countdown is officially on until the FIFA Club World Cup kicks off, with a curtain-raiser between Inter Miami and a team from Egypt, Al Ahly.

The Department of Homeland Security has revealed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel will provide security at the game.

On its Facebook account, CBP posted last week: “Let the games begin.

“The first #FIFAClubWorldCup games start on June 14th in Miami, FL at the Hard Rock Stadium.

“CBP will be suited and booted and ready to provide security for the first round of games. #CBPxFIFA #FootballUnitesTheWorld.”

The post has since been deleted.

However, NBC said the post had prompted questions about whether the presence of federal agents was “just part of the overall security team, which is normal for a big event?”

This follows demonstrations nationwide, including Dallas and Austin in Texas, and Chicago and New York, after federal immigration raids arrested dozens of workers in Los Angeles.

It also comes as Donald Trump continues his huge immigration crackdown and travel ban.

And Vice President JD Vance last month warned World Cup travellers not to overstay their welcome.

The broadcaster said it was not clear whether the agents will also be checking papers and detaining fans arriving for the game.

FIFA today held a press conference to publicise the Club World Cup – the winning side of which will earn up to $125 million.

NBC noted, “It’s obvious that Fifa would rather focus on the games instead of outside issues.”

FIFA president Gianni Infantino urged fans to buy tickets despite concerns about the presence of federal agents.

He told fans, “Be part of history, football is such an important sport all over the world. we’ll have billions of people watching this from home who would love to come and attend.”

BOOSTING SECURITY

Infantino was asked whether he had any concerns about ICE and border officials being present at the games.

He replied, “No I don’t have any concerns on anything in the sense that we are very attentive on any security questions.

“Most important for us is to guarantee security for our fans who will come to the games, this is our priority.”

The station stressed that it is normal for local police to partner with federal counterparts and law enforcement agents to provide security at big events.

The broadcaster said it had spoken to ICE agents – who had confirmed its officials will be at the games – to provide security.

NBC – citing ICE advice – told viewers intending on attending games that all non-American citizens need to carry proof of their legal status.

This is particularly vital after the debacle last year, when 7,000 unticketed supporters broke into the Copa America final.

Some fans climbed over fences, while others were incredibly seen trying to enter via a ventilation system at the Hard Rock Stadium.

But, Thomas Kennedy of the Florida Immigrant Coalition said the federal agents’ now-deleted social media warning had caused confusion.

He said, “The messaging that CBP is using is a bit cryptic.

“It’s sort of alluding that people should have their paperwork in order to attend the games.

“It creates an environment where people are less likely to come watch the games because of just sheer intimidation.”

When asked about the security arrangement, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said, “We’re here to make sure people are safe, that’s our focus, to work with all of the law enforcement personnel, our safety personnel, and make sure they have a seamless experience.”

Iowa-based Casey’s General Stores is the fast-growing convenience store retailer in the US and has no plans to stop anytime soon.

The chain, a major rival to Buc-ee’s, is amping up the competition by investing over $6.2 million into seven new stores in a single state in the South.

Texas has the most convenience stores out of any other state, at 16,416, per data from NACS, and Casey’s General Stores is adding to that number.

New locations in Abilene, Burnet, Tioga, and Texarkana are currently under construction, while the builds at sites in Gladewater and Athens are projected to begin in late June, per permits filed with the state.

Construction at the last new store, also situated in Abilene, is expected to start in August.

All of the new stores are projected to be completed by the end of this year and will measure roughly 4,200 square feet to 4,570 square feet, per the filings.

Casey’s General Stores first debuted in The Lone Star State in late 2023 when the company purchased the 22 stores that made up the Lone Star Food Stores chain.

The company then acquired 148 additional stores in Texas last July when it bought 198 spots from CEFCO Convenience Stores.

The deal, worth over $1.1 billion, raised Casey’s General Stores’ portfolio by roughly 7%.

“Our store growth strategy focuses on both building and acquiring new locations across our footprint, and that includes Texas,” a Casey’s spokesperson told CSP.

“We are actively permitting future, new-store builds and we will also continue to evaluate and plan for CEFCO store transitions, which we’ve said is a multi-year process. This is an exciting time at Casey’s and we look forward to serving more guests in Texas.”

Casey’s General Stores’ new construction is giving Texas-based Buc-ee’s a run for its money.

Buc-ee’s has more locations in Texas than in any other state, with 36.

The iconic chain even holds world records in The Lone Star State, with the largest convenience store in the world situated in New Braunfels and the longest car wash in Katy.

Part of Buc-ee’s draw among Southerners is its foodservice, including freshly prepared food items such as brisket sandwiches, kolaches, and baked goods.

As Casey’s General Stores expands in Texas, hungry travelers will be forced to pick between the two chains, since Casey’s is also well-known for its food offerings – especially its pizza.

It ranks as one of the largest pizza chains in the country, serving up a variety of handmade pizzas in addition to other items like sandwiches, wings, breakfast items, and salads.

Customers can choose from classic toppings such as cheese, pepperoni, and sausage, or among a list of specialty pizzas like Taco Pizza and BBQ Brisket Pizza.

GAS STATION GOURMET

Casey’s General Stores, primarily located in the Midwest and the South, is so popular for its food that customers have praised the region’s exceptional “gas station game.”

Popular YouTuber The Fat Files (@TheFatFiles) labeled the chain as “the most American pizza place in the world” in a video from late May.

He called Casey’s General Stores “the best pizza place you’ve never heard of,” arguing that the chain hid its delicious pizza offerings under the guise of being a convenience store.

The YouTuber admitted that while many people had likely never even heard of Casey’s General Stores because it only operates in a handful of states, the chain was highly “dominant” in the Midwest.

“They are the third biggest convenience store chain in the country behind 7-Eleven and Circle K,” he said.

The content creator also hyped up the hidden gem’s pizza.

“While they’re technically not considered a pizza place, they have better pizza than any other chain pizza place in the United States,” he claimed.
