‘I might get on before Ivan Toney’ jokes ITV commentator Lee Dixon as Saudi star cuts frustrated figure on England bench

IVAN TONEY looked glum as he watched on from the bench as England lost to Senegal.

The striker was recalled to the squad by Thomas Tuchel but played for just eight minutes including stoppage time across matches against Andorra and Senegal.

And he looked stunned as he sat on the substitutes’ bench in the 70th minute as Noni Madueke prepared to come on.

ITV commentator Lee Dixon joked: “I might get on before Toney.”

England trailed 2-1 at the time and Tuchel had already brought on Morgan Rogers and Morgan Gibbs-White ahead of Toney.

The Al-Ahli striker had to wait until the 88th minute to try and impact the match, as fellow subs Madueke and Jude Bellingham had failed to do so.

Bellingham did find the net from close range but the goal was disallowed because a handball from Levi Colwill in the build-up, with Senegal going on to win 3-1.

Tuchel was asked after the match about his decision to leave Toney on the bench until the final few minutes.

He said: “First of all it was more than three minutes.

“Second of all I think that Ivan is a specialist for exactly these situations.

“We created a lot of chances with Morgan Gibbs-White, with Ebs [Eberechi Eze], with Morgan Rodgers, and with Jude in fluid positions.

“I think Ivan is strongest when we have a phase where we have a lot of balls in the box and that was the case so after 80minutes we got him ready.

“Then we scored and they took the goal away and it took a little while longer than we wanted but that’s what he can give – presence in the box and a goal later in the match.”

Ian Wright and Roy Keane showed sympathy after the match, suggesting he ought to have been brought on earlier.

Wright told ITV: “He’s seen him all week and didn’t look to put him on until late. I don’t know what he has seen in training that he may not like up to this point.

“I was very surprised not to see him come on… I would be disappointed if I was him.”

And Keane added: “If you’re Toney and you’re getting three, four, five minutes, you’re fuming.”

Jude Bellingham in incredible meltdown after England lose to Senegal as he boots water cooler and chases assistant ref

JUDE BELLNGHAM launched into an incredible meltdown on the pitch immediately after England’s embarrassing 3-1 defeat to Senegal.

The 22-year-old midfielder failed to keep his emotions in check following the full-time whistle as England suffered their first loss to an African nation.

England had led 1-0 through Harry Kane before imploding[/caption]

A 93rd-minute punisher from Cheikh Sabaly put the final nail in England‘s coffin as they suffered a first defeat under manager Thomas Tuchel.

Substitute Bellingham thought he had drawn England level at 2-2 in the 83rd minute, but the goal was controversially disallowed for a handball by Levi Colwill.

The debatable decision late in the game left England stars and Tuchel fuming, as Colwill didn’t appear to deliberately touch the ball.

Regardless, England didn’t do enough to win and were lucky that the match was a friendly, with Tuchel still undefeated in the World Cup qualifiers.

But Bellingham was so frustrated that he kicked the ball into the air as referee Stephanie Frappart blew the whistle at the City Ground.

The Real Madrid star then booted a water cooler near the technical area, before racing after the assistant referee.

Captain Harry Kane was ultimately forced to push the former Birmingham player onto the pitch to calm the situation down.

But former Bundesliga ace wasn’t the only one irritated with the decision, with Kane hinting that the officials “didn’t know the rules”.

Tuchel also confronted Frappart and her team of officials in the middle of the pitch at full-time.

Bellingham, however, quickly appeared to calm down and heartwarmingly gifted his shirt to a young fan before heading down the tunnel.

But the talented midfielder does have history of taking his frustrations out on pitch-side objects after defeats.

He memorably kicked the VAR monitor in frustration after Real Madrid‘s last-gasp defeat to Valencia in April.

Bellingham was named on the bench for England’s first friendly under Tuchel, but was introduced with 19 minutes remaining as England found themselves 2-1 behind.

Kane had opened the scoring for the Three Lions early on, before Ismaila Sarr and Habib Diarra netted to turn the game on its head.

While the referee was reviewing Bellingham’s goal on the VAR screen, former Arsenal right-back Lee Dixon told ITV: “That’s completely not a deliberate handball.

“The twisting of his arm is because he is challenging for the ball. I don’t agree with that decision.”

Ian Wright later added: “For them to disallow the goal, it’s crazy.”

The 41-year-old revealed during his new sides minicamp that he is now a married man, making headlines once again.

Rogers has been active in the NFL for over 20 years, being drafted in the first round of the 2005 draft by Green Bay Packers, where he played until 2022.

He then played for the New York Jets until 2024, and his activities in the NFL off-season in 2025 became one of the worst-kept secrets in the NFL, as he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The four-time MVP also put a ring on it in the off-season, and SunSport can reveal who Rodgers’ wife is.

Who is Aaron Rodgers’ wife?

The exact identity of Aaron Rodgers’ wife is still unconfirmed; however, in December 2024, he mentioned his girlfriend, Brittani, on Pat McAfee’s show.

Rodgers confirmed his marital status, with the veteran quarterback getting married in the 2025 off-season.

The former Green Bay Packers QB hinted he was in a “serious relationship” on McAfee’s show, citing “personal matters” as a reason for delaying his footballing decision.

Many believe Rodgers’ wedding is one of the personal matters he cited for not making an on-field decision.

Ed Miliband accused of ‘rewriting history’ after claiming winter fuel axe was to stop millionaires cashing in

ED Miliband was accused of “rewriting history” yesterday after he claimed scrapping winter fuel was about stopping millionaires getting payments.

The bungling Net Zero Secretary tried to justify Labour’s original decision to strip the handout by suggesting the pensioners who would’ve missed out were all rich.

But some of them earned as little as £12,000 per year.

Mr Miliband said: “The principal question was, the richest in our society, should they get the winter fuel payment, should millionaires, should the richest get the winter fuel payment?

“I think the answer for most people to that is no.”

The Net Zero Secretary’s desperate bid to explain scrapping winter fuel payments – before the decision was partially reversed – was blasted by senior Tories, who accused him of spouting a “pack of lies”.

Shadow Energy Secretary Andrew Bowie told The Sun: “Red Ed is even more out of touch than we thought if he thinks people will believe this pack of lies.

“The economy is worse off than when they found it – taxes higher, unemployment higher and living standards lower.

“He is just trying to rewrite history to try and cover up Labour’s embarrassing U-turn.”

Meanwhile, a flagship Net Zero plan has been spared ahead of next week’s spending review — to opponents’ dismay.

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband has ensured his £13billion warm homes scheme will not be downgraded after negotiations with the Treasury.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves decided not to cut the cash which allows heating upgrades through better insulation, solar panels and heat pumps.

Hyundai upgrading fan-favorite feature that makes driving more fun – and they insist drivers will ‘feel’ the difference

HYUNDAI has revealed a patent for a special feature that could change the way drivers view electric vehicles.

The unique fan-favorite feature is getting an upgrade that will shock drivers with its intensity.

The automaker wants to upgrade that feature to imitate the car’s vibrations[/caption]

The N Active Sound+ is a feature in the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N that enhances the driving experience by providing simulated engine sounds through the vehicle’s sound system.

Essentially, it uses a 10-speaker system to create three distinct powertrain soundtracks that drivers can select.

These sounds are designed to complement the car’s performance and create a more realistic and exciting driving experience.

Not only that, some drivers said the sounds serve as an auditory reference point, allowing them to better understand the car’s performance and control.

The point of N Active Sound+ is to make the driving experience of an electric vehicle feel more engaging, especially for those accustomed to the sounds of internal combustion engines (ICEs).

It simulated the cracks, pops, and revs of an actual internal combustion engine.

The automaker is building on that same concept by closely imitating the sounds a driver would hear from the actual powertrain behavior, as per a patent filing discovered by CarBuzz.

The patent is called “Method of controlling traveling sound of electric vehicle using motor vibration and virtual transmission signal.”

This means that the patent takes vibrations from the vehicle‘s motors and creates a sound that simulates the noise of the engine, road, and vehicle’s systems together.

To create this sound, the company notes that “a marketable aspect of vehicles by enhancing the driver’s driving pleasure through hearing and vision.”

Hyundai would need to capture several distinct vibrations to create this unique sound.

Some of these vibrations include the vehicle’s motor sounds, vehicle speed, accelerator pedal application, motor torque, and drive mode.

Each of these small aspects helps alter the vibration.

Not only that, each individual sound can be amped up or down during a specific driving condition.

Electric vehicles vs gas

Pros and cons of EVs vs gasoline-powered vehicles

EV PROS:

  • Convenient (when charging at home)
  • Cheaper (depending on state or city)
  • Cheaper maintenance, due to lack of mechanical parts
  • Great for commuting
  • Reduced CO2 emissions
  • Federal and state tax incentives
  • More performance (speed, handling – depending on the make and model)

EV CONS:

  • Higher initial cost
  • Higher insurance rates
  • More frequent tire and brake replacement intervals
  • Higher curb weight (thus causing more rapid wear on crucial parts)
  • Low resale value
  • High depreciation rates
  • Lack of charging infrastructure
  • Unreliable public charging (related: slow charging times)
  • Poor winter and summer performance
  • Lack of clean energy alternatives means more “dirty energy” from coal and nuclear sources
  • Range anxiety

GAS PROS:

  • Highly developed refueling infrastructure
  • Fast refueling
  • Cheaper insurance rates, depending on make, model, and configuration
  • Established repair industry
  • Lower initial cost
  • Higher range before refueling, especially with hybrids
  • Many manufacturers produce nearly emission-less engines
  • Cheaper refueling, depending on the location

GAS CONS:

  • Finite resource (related: heavy dependence on petroleum)
  • Carbon emissions/greenhouse gases
  • Higher repair costs
  • Higher insurance rates, depending on make, model, and configuration
  • Varying costs at the pump, depending on state, city, and county

Source: Car & DriverPerch EnergyAutoWeek

The automaker’s endgame is to produce an electric vehicle with a high-quality sound for the driver of the vehicle and those around it.

The patent notes that typical electric vehicles and hybrids use sounds that cause “discomfort not only to drivers but also to pedestrians around the vehicles.”

With these improvements, Hyundai hopes that buyers who usually go for a classic gas engine “feel” will consider switching to an EV.

As the push for EVs continues, automakers say that manufacturing the vehicles is only half the battle.

The other half is actually getting drivers who prefer gasoline-powered cars to switch over to electric vehicles — and this could be Hyundai’s best shot.

The patent is not the automaker’s final product, but there are talks that future models will have the unique sound application.
