NFL world mourns after first-round pick dies aged 73 after quitting football to become surgeon
THE NFL world is in mourning after a former first-round pick died at the age of 73.
Dave Gallagher had a pro football career with the Chicago Bears and New York Giants.

He quit the game and decided to become a orthopedic surgeon in his post-retirement career.
His cause of death has not yet been announced.
Gallagher began his playing career with the Bears in 1974.
He joined the Giants between 1975 to 1976.
The defensive lineman then quit the sport to enter medical school.
He headed to the University of Michigan to embark on his new career.
Gallagher briefly returned to the NFL from 1978 to 1979 with the Detroit Lions.
However, he practiced medicine after that for years in Columbus, Indiana.
It is understood he passed away back on January 2.
An obituary announcing his death has only recently been published, on August 4.
A graveside service is scheduled to be held on August 19.
Gallagher is survived by his ex-wife Carole, daughter, Bryn, sons, Pat and Drew, grandchildren and brother, John.
Before his NFL career, Gallagher was an All-American at Michigan.
He was selected in the first-round of the 1974 NFL Draft by the Bears.

He then decided to retire from football aged just 27 following two season with the Lions.
“I still don’t accept my benching,” he told the New York Times in 1977.
“I still don’t know if I’m walking away from it, not facing up to it.
“But I do know that I never wanted to be a marginal player. There are better things to do.”
Gallagher’s dad was also understood to have been a doctor.
Simone Biles’ husband Jonathan Owens in more trouble after NFL star fights with OWN teammate in Chicago Bears practice
SIMONE Biles’ NFL husband Jonathan Owens was at the center of drama at training camp as he fought one of his own Chicago Bears teammates.
The NFL safety has been working with the 2025 regular season, which starts in less than a month.

Owens had a ball thrown at him by running back Roschon Johnson before the chaos began.
He had tried a “late peanut punch” which led to Johnson’s anger and the ball being aimed at him, per multiple reporters.
Owens then tackled Johnson to the ground before coaches and other players stepped in to de-escalate the situation.
After the incident, Johnson downplayed the fight when speaking to reporters.
“That’s just camp. Getting competitive, that’s all it was,” he said.
“Like I said, it’s football.
“When you compete at a high level, stuff like that is bound to happen.”
Owens’ skirmish is the latest in training camp scuffles between players.
Players on the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams were part of a bust-up in a joint practice.
Pats head coach Mike Vrabel was even bloodied after he tried to intervene.
Owens and Biles have been married since 2023.
Recently, the couple moved into a custom-built mansion in Texas.
Back in April, Biles posted some pictures of the pair’s dogs having fun in their new home.
Last month, she enjoyed a vacation in the Caribbean islands with her friends.

Biles shared photos on Instagram of herself in a daring outfit.
She rocked a blue bikini and a white T-shirt over the top.
“No crying on the yacht,” the shirt read.
And Owens turned heads with a steamy comment, which read, “Sheesh baby i need you home asap!!!”
