Dog owners warned not to let pooches near garden essential this summer – not avoiding it could lead to infection
OUR four-legged friends could be in danger over the summer months.
Vets have urged dog owners to beware of a harmful garden enhancer that can cause serious issues for our beloved furry sidekicks.

Professionals have warned over the dangers of simple grass seeds causing major health implications for dogs who are at risk of getting the dangerous seeds wedged in their fur.
A poorly pooch was rushed into surgery last year in Norwich after inhaling a grass seed which caused a punctured lung.
The seeds can get stuck in ears, paws, armpits, chests and even eyes.
Symptoms to look out for include excessive head shaking, paw licking, swollen paws, holding its head to one side or lameness.
The PDSA has advised: “If your dog likes to run around in long grass, it’s important to always check them for grass seeds afterwards.
“You’ll need to remove any that you find and if you find one stuck, or a wound/swelling that looks like it could contain one, you’ll need to take your pooch to the vet.
“If not removed quickly, grass seeds enter the body and start causing problems such as infections and abscesses.”
Look out for painful, weeping eyes or excessively licking or nibbling paws, limping or constant sneezing.
Bloody discharge from the nostrils might be the sign of grass seed stuck up its nose.
It is likely to cause symptoms such as non-healing wounds, low energy and a constant high temperature.
The animal professionals continued: “Prevention is always better than cure. Always check your dog for grass seeds after walks in long grass.
“And try to prevent your dog from running around in long grass, sticking to paths instead.”

Horror moment Max Verstappen’s dad flips rally car in terrifying crash revealed in new footage
THIS is the horror moment Max Verstappen’s dad Jos crashed and flipped his rally car at high speed.
Disaster struck for the former F1 driver, 53, as he was competing in the Royal Rally of Scandinavia in Sweden.

The rollover crash brought Jos and his navigator Renaud Jamoul’s day to a halt earlier than expected last Friday.
The pair started well – they were 18th overall and best out of the Master classification – but came unstuck on stage nine.
Verstappen admitted they entered a corner “too quickly” before ending up in a ditch after their rear wheels dipped in the gravel.
It caused the Skoda Fabia RS Rally 2 to do a 360, suffering damage in the process, with newly released video painting a grim picture.
The latest clip showed the car with a huge crack in the windscreen, but fortunately, both Jos and Renaud escaped uninjured.
Verstappen said: “I went a little bit too quick into the corner and then I missed the apex, the inside of the corner.
“I was in the loose gravel, on full grass and I couldn’t make the corner. Very easy to happen in this kind of rally.
“It was a typical Sweden roll. I flipped it and I was back on the four wheels. Every crash should be a lesson.

“The roll cage is all fine but the front was a little bit damaged, there was some rear damage and one damper was broken.
“I must say I really enjoyed it, the way of driving. Obviously these people from these countries they used to that, the only driving they do is on these kind of stages.”
It was Verstappen Snr’s third-ever start on an unfamiliar gravel surface.
He didn’t manage to travel to Barcelona to watch his son Max compete in the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday.
The Red Bull ace endured a weekend to forget after a 10-second penalty dropped him from P5 to P10, and a hefy 49 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri.
The 27-year-old also picked up three-penalty points after “deliberately” colliding with George Russell on Lap 61, when asked to let the Mercedes driver through after using an escape road.
The punishment moves the Dutchman to 11 penalty points – one point away from a race ban.

Shoppers must take action after ‘life-threatening’ issue found in 1.7m air con products sold at stores including Costco
SHOPPERS have been urged to take immediate action as officials issue a recall on over 1.7 million products sold at major retailers.
At least 17 people have fallen ill after defective Midea air conditioning units have caused mold growth, sparking infections and other health issues.

Respiratory infections, at their most severe, can be life-threatening and shoppers must take immediate action if they have a recalled product.
The recall of 1.7 million Midea U and U+ Window Air Conditioners in the US was announced on Thursday.
An additional 45,900 of the faulty products have been sold in Canada.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission shared that all air con units listed in the recall have drainage issues.
“Pooled water in the air conditioners can fail to drain quickly enough, which can lead to mold growth,” the announcement said.
“Mold exposure poses risks of respiratory issues and other infections in some consumers.”
It noted that there have been at least 152 reports of mold growth in the air conditioners with at least 17 people falling ill.
The reported symptoms include respiratory infections, coughing, sneezing, sore throats and allergic reactions as a result of exposure to mold.
The recall is widespread with numerous retailers selling the Midea units both online and in stores under numerous brand names.
These include giants like Costco, Home Depot, Best Buy, Amazon, Lowes, and Walmart.
Brands names which can be found on the units include Comfort Aire, Danby, Mr. Cool, and Perfect Aire.
The affected products were sold in the following cooling power sizes: 8,000, 10,000 and 12,000 BTU.
Even if you have not recently bought a Midea air conditioning unit, the product recall could still affect you.
The Product Safety Commission confirmed that affected products were sold between March 2020 and May 2025 for between $280 and $500.
A full list of the recalled items can be found below.
Consumers who find that they have a recalled unit must contact Midea for either a full or prorated refund or a free repair.
Those wanting a refund will be issued free shipping labels to return the product to Midea.
Or shoppers can submit a photograph showing that they have cut the unplugged power cord of the air con unit, the product safety commission said.
Anyone waiting for their appointment with a Midea technician to fix their air con system should follow instructions found here on how to examine the unit before using it.

Mold exposure poses a bigger threat to those with lung conditions such as asthma and lung disease as well as those with compromised immune systems.
The CDC explains that for most, symptoms include a stuffy nose, wheezing, fatigue, and red or itchy eyes, or skin.
Meanwhile, severe reactions include fever or shortness of breath.
“People with asthma or who are allergic to mold may have severe reactions,” the CDC states.
“Immune-compromised people and people with chronic lung disease may get infections in their lungs from mold.”
While most respiratory infections will resolve on their own, if one is left untreated, especially in individuals suffering from weakened immune systems, it can lead to severe complications.
If you have any health concerns you must contact your medical provider.
