City with lake-side beaches and former tallest building in the world makes surprising entry in America’s best road trips

A SURPRISING city has been named one of the best road trips in the United States by a popular travel magazine.

Travel and Leisure released its list of the 23 best road trips in America, and one shocking metropolitan destination was named as a top road trip spot.

Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive offers a trip for travelers of all ages: from its bars to its beaches, no one will ever be bored.

Lake Shore Drive spans the length of the city, reaching a total of 15 miles.

The beach-lined drive has a backdrop of tall skyscrapers, and, most notably, the Willis Tower, formerly known as the Sears Tower and once the world’s tallest building.

Travel and Leisure called the towering structures “the rock stars of American architecture.”

Along the drive, visitors can marvel at the Willis Tower, a 110-story skyscraper that stands 1,451 feet tall.

Architecture lovers can also admire the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed nineteenth-century building, The Rookery.

For some fun and games, travelers can stop at Navy Pier for carnival rides, shops, and, in the summertime, you may even catch fireworks.

Break up the trip with a stroll around Millennium Park for interactive displays at the Crown Fountain, a show at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, and a walk along the BP Pedestrian Bridge.

In Millennium Park, visitors can also stop by the iconic Cloud Gate sculpture, also known as “The Bean.”

For a refreshing dip, stop by one of the city’s famous beaches.

Oak Street Beach is known for its lively atmosphere and Lake Michigan views, while North Avenue Beach is best for bar hopping.

North Avenue Beach is also conveniently located near the Lincoln Park Zoo, allowing families to enjoy a relaxing visit to the 35-acre zoo.

Art enthusiasts can visit The Art Institute of Chicago for captivating exhibitions and over 300,000 pieces of art.

The art institute also features its own architecture and design collection and hosts changing exhibitions throughout the year.

Things to do near Lake Shore Drive

  • Willis Tower
  • Millennium Park
  • Art Institute of Chicago
  • Oak Street Beach
  • Wrigley Field
  • Boystown

This year, the institute is running a gallery for European design and an exhibition of Japanese Prints.

Only five minutes away from the iconic highway is Wrigley Field, where the Chicago Cubs play.

During baseball season, Wrigleyville is packed with Cubs fans drinking beers and hopping from bar to bar all within walking distance from the field.

Just moments away is Boystown, the city’s famous LGBTQ+ friendly area with an abundance of coffee shops, gay bars, and thrift stores.

Taking in the whole city isn’t a one-day feat, but luckily, there are plenty of hotels for weary travelers to stay the night at.

From budget accommodations to five-star stays, there’s a spot for every budget.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer slammed over outfit choice at press conference – ‘that’s awful’

DALLAS Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer got hit with criticism over his attire at Monday’s press conference.

One of sports media’s top personalities called out the first-year head coach.

FS1 host Colin Cowherd hasn’t been afraid to question Schottenheimer and his status with the Cowboys this offseason.

Recently, the analyst even shared the possibility of the iconic Nick Saban being a fit for the Cowboys’ head coaching.

So on Monday, Cowherd called attention to Schottenheimer’s appearance during a recent Cowboys press conference.

Schottenheimer wore a backward visor, which Cowherd slammed him for during Monday’s edition of The Herd.

“You know I don’t like backward hats,” Cowherd said alongside Jason McIntyre.

“You know what is worse? A backward visor.

“That’s a two-win team, I am taking away four wins. That’s awful, that’s so bad.”

Cowherd then addressed that fans have scolded his past and still-believed opinion that appearance matters when it comes to being one of the faces of an NFL franchise.

“I know everybody gets mad at this. I only really care… For instance, Bank of America is behind him. It’s a big sponsor.

“I do think if you are the quarterback or head coach of an organization, and you do press conferences, you are not only representing yourself.

“You are representing the Dallas Cowboys, and you are representing Bank of America. That’s probably a huge team sponsor.”

He later said during his tirade, “So when you sit in front of a podium, you are representing Bank of America. You are representing a 12 billion dollar corporation.

“… I think you have got to do better as a head coach than a visor backwards. That’s just my take.”

Schottenheimer’s the latest sports figure to be criticized by Cowherd over wearing a backwards hat.

In the past, Cowherd has ridiculed rookie Shedeur Sanders and Baker Mayfield, among others, over the same attire decision.

Nonetheless, NFL fans shared their disagreement with Cowherd’s take on Schottenheimer’s headwear at the press conference.

“Stop being ridiculous,” one wrote.

“LMAO! Man! There’s nothing wrong with the visor. He’s a coach. Normally, you have some good takes. Not this one,” a second said.

NFL important dates 2025 season

Fans also made sure to note that Cowherd hasn’t publicly ripped Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn for wearing backwards hats at press conferences, and that NFL legend Bill Belichick regularly wore hoodies to interview and still won six Super Bowls.

“When Dan Quinn wears backwards you never heard @colincowherd
say s***,” one wrote.

“Belichick represented the Kraft family and he wore a hoodie. Harbaugh wears Walmart khakis,” a second added.
