AN old school street truck with an aggressive and sinister look is coming to a dealership near you.

Fans of the mean bodies belonging to pick-ups of old are in for a treat – as Ford have announced a bold new model.

The Blue Oval has unveiled the new F-150 Lobo – a new take on the classic F-150 pick-up with a comeback twist.

It will be available in US during the fall of this year, with prices to start at $59,995 before taxes – almost $5,000 more than thew model the Lobo is based on, the 4×4 SuperCrew STX.

The Lobo’s body has been lowered a full 2 inches (51mm) at the rear end, meaning it sits noticeably closer to the ground than its full-size cousins.

But this still isn’t quite as low as the Maverick Lobo truck by Ford, released this year, which sits just 7.4 inches off the ground.

There’s no change to the F150’s signature 5.0 litre ‘Coyote’ V8 engine, as the sportier makeover to the bodywork does not extend to under the hood.

Prospective buyers shouldn’t be too worried, however, as this classic eight pot produces 400 horse power, 556 newton metres of torque and 298 kilowatts.

This motor is connected to a ten speed automatic transmission, and a flexible four wheel drive system.

The truck can run at two or four wheel high drive, four wheel low drive, and even automatically distribute power between the front and rear wheels as the terrain requires.

This is operated by an electrically-controlled two-speed transfer case.

The Lobo has been dressed in an intimidating STX trim, accompanied by a lowered front grille.

Bespoke 22-inch gloss black alloy wheels have been fitted to the truck.

These are protected by chunky Bridgestone Alenza all-season tyres.

The new truck boasts a 10-piece bodykit and dual exhaust outlets and a unique four-part light bar which stretches across across the blacked-out front grille.

The lower air intake has also been redesigned with a mesh grille, accompanied by a noir makeover of blacked out vents, a cowl bonnet, badges and detailing.

The vents are styled to look like those on muscle cars, harking back to the iconic Mustang.

The cloth interior and electronic displays remain unchanged from the STX.

Prospective buyers will have five striking paint colours to choose from: Agate Black Metallic, Atlas Blue Metallic, Carbonized Gray, Oxford White, and Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat.

But unlike the STX, the Lobo is only available with a 5’5″ cargo tray and a four door SuperCrew body.

The word ‘Lobo’ is Spanish for wolf, and reflects the car’s bold, menacing look.

This is also what all F-150 models sold by Ford of Mexico have been called since 1996 – minus the base trim.

The ‘Lobo’ label didn’t appear in the US until last year, after Ford opted to give its Maverick model a similarly menacing makeover to the one which has just been given to this F-150.
