DURING last night’s VMAs there was an awkward moment where Ariana Grande was forced to accept an award on her tiptoes.
At the end of Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, Ariana Grande, 32, scooped her third gong – but was taken aback as she could barely reach the microphone.

The petite singer’s mouth was barely at the same height the microphone as she accepted the Video of the Year award for Brighter Days Ahead.
As she accepted the glitzy award moments before the ceremony ended, she joked, “Does this get taller every time?”
She then asked, “Is this intentional?”
Ariana, who wore heels with her tutu-esque dress last night, only stands at five foot three inches, as per several reports.
Fans were quick to notice the mic blunder, with many slamming the production and crew for allowing it to happen.
One person on X said, “They really couldn’t lower the mic for Ariana Grande? They got her tiptoeing in HEELS!!”
Another slammed, “Ok. MTV needs to improve mic placement. You know who the VMA winners are, adjust accordingly. This happened to Sabrina Carpenter and now Ariana Grande.”
A third fumed, “Whoever set up the mic for video of the year was kinda evil bc the ppl in the lead in that category imo were: ariana and sabrina. both very short. just hateful and we will remember it.”
“THEM NOT LOWERING THE MIC FOR ARIANA IS SENDING ME,” added a fourth.
“I can’t believe they couldn’t fix the mic for ariana,” said a fifth.
While a sixth penned, “LOWER THAT MIC OH MY GOD.”
And a seventh said, “why did they put that mic so high im crying.”
This comes after fans were quick to say how they were sure it was “the worst ever” VMA ceremony.
One person penned on X last night, “I’ve seen a lot of terrible VMAs and let me tell you… this years was the worst.”
Another wrote. “Omg these VMAs are the worst ever.”
“It was one of the worst VMAS of all time. 100% AWFUL,” slammed a third.
A fourth then penned, “It’s kinda so disappointing how hard the vmas fell off.”
2025 saw the MTV Video Music Awards undergo a huge change, with it moving from being solely an MTV broadcast to include CBS.
For the first time ever, the show was broadcast on a different channel while still remaining on MTV.
We previously reported that the move could see music’s most untamed night become a little more PG.
The more modest approach that was expected – and seen – came due to how CBS must follow “significantly different rules” than its sister network, MTV.
