Baby boy mauled to death by 130lb family dog on his mom’s 21st birthday after his great-gran left the tot to make toast

A FIVE-MONTH-OLD baby was mauled to death by his family’s pet dog while his mom was out celebrating her 21st birthday.

Little Carter was savagely attacked by the 130-pound Great Dane husky mix while being looked after by his relatives.

He was staying with his great-grandma and great aunt at a home in Ormond Beach, Volusia County, Florida

Cops revealed the two women put Carter in a bedroom and closed the door while they made toast.

But, they had unlocked a cage allowing their three dogs to move about the home.

The great-grandma then spotted the bedroom door was open, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood told reporters.

Carter was bleeding and police said his body was lifeless after being attacked by the Great Dane Husky mix.

Harrowing details from the 911 call, obtained by the NBC affiliate WESH-TV, have since emerged.

“Is there any puncture,” the dispatcher told the caller.

“Yes. Yes. He’s bleeding,” the caller replied.

“Okay, can we take a dry cloth and apply pressure over it?” the dispatcher instructed.

Cops found the two-year-old dog sitting next to Carter when they arrived at the home.

Carter was rushed to a local hospital in Daytona Beach but couldn’t be saved – despite the best efforts of medics.

The Great Dane-Husky beast was then quarantined and its owners were handed it a notice informing them that it was “dangerous.”

It has since been euthanized.

Chitwood described what unfolded in the home as “tragic.”

“This was supposed to be a great night, and now I just can’t imagine how anyone in this family feels,” he said.

“You have a young mother [who] will remember on her birthday that her child is dead.”

Randa Matusiak, the director of public protection in Volusia County, issued a warning to pet owners in the area.

She urged homeowners to understand their pets‘ behavior.

Cops revealed negligence is being probed as a potential factor.

Between 2011 and 2021, chiefs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed there were an average of 43 dog attack-related deaths a year.

Between 2017 and 2021, more women on average were killed in dog-related attacks than men, according to the agency.

Last month, The U.S. Sun reported how little Blakely Blosser, one, was killed by her family’s pet dog.

And, grandma Fran Williams was left seriously injured after being attacked by two dogs while delivering food to her neighbor.

She was attacked by a Staffordshire Terrier Mix and a Labrador Retriever Mix dog.

She told The Daytona News Journal she feared for her life.

“I was screaming for help,” she said.

“I really felt like I was going to die.”

In June, Angelina Williams was jailed for almost 20 years after being found guilty of allowing a pit-bull maul her six-year-old son.
