It has been announced that Kum & Go will begin renaming its stores, starting in the state of Iowa and possibly going from there.
The new name will be “Maverik”, as announced by the company, which is now owned by the Utah-based Maverik convenience store chain.
An email sent to Kum & Go rewards members on July 15 assured customers that, apart from the name, little else would be changing.
It said: “the Utah-based Maverik convenience store chain.
“Our commitment to our members and our communities remains as strong as ever.
“The familiar faces you’ve relied on will still be here to serve you.”
Maverik bought Kum & Go back in April 2023 and announced this name change in November 2024.
It is reported that all Kum & Go locations will hopefully become Maverik stores, but the company has yet to provide any sort of timeline.
In a statement to the Des Moines Register, Maverik said it is “in the process of rebranding Kum & Go stores, with the intent to unify our entire combined footprint under the Maverik brand.”
It continued: “…We are taking a thoughtful, market-by-market approach to ensure the best customer experience before confirming each state’s rebrand.
“Our focus is delivering a consistently elevated c-store experience—across fuel, rewards, foodservice, and inside-store offerings.
“As we solidify our plans in each state, we will share those updates with you.”
Customers have already reacted poorly to the rebrand news, with many claiming it is the end of an era.
POTENTIAL TIMELINE
Right now, without a proper timeline, local media have been left to piece together the rough times when the stores would be rebranded.
C-Store Dive reported that in the city of Oklahoma, for example, Kum & Go stores would become Maverik locations in mid-2025.
Kum & Go is owned by the Krause Group, and as part of the deal, it also sold Solar Transport.
This is a Krause-owned tank truck carrier and logistics provider.
Krause Group CEO Kyle Krause said in a statement when the deal was announced: “Kum & Go has always been driven by a desire to innovate, grow and serve our customers, our communities and our people.
“Maverik has built its business in the same way and is ideally positioned to lead the next chapter of growth for Kum & Go.”
Maverik President Chuck Maggelet added: “We are honored to carry (the Krause family‘s) legacy forward as we build on Kum & Go’s strong operating and innovation capabilities and expand our adventurous convenience experience.
“We look forward to welcoming Kum & Go and Solar Transport associates and stores to Maverik.”
