A BELOVED pharmacy chain and rival to Rite Aid is closing down three more locations.
The company has already closed one of the three, and the other two will be gone within the next few weeks.
Three Walgreens in the state of Wisconsin have been targeted for the chopping block, in another closure wave for the company.
The first Walgreens, located in the city of Milwaukee, partially closed on July 1.
The rest of the store will close on July 28.
The second store, also located in Milwaukee, is closing on July 21, but the front end of the store will remain open.
The third and final Walgreens to close is in Racine, and it will shut down the entire store on August 5.
A statement from Walgreens said: “We will continue to execute our previously announced turnaround plan to stabilize our retail pharmacy operations, which includes our store footprint optimization program.
“It is never an easy decision to close a store, and we know how important they are to the communities we serve and therefore do everything possible to improve their performance.
“However, increased regulatory and reimbursement pressures are weighing on our ability to cover the costs associated with rent, staffing, and supply needs.
“When closures are necessary, we work in partnership with community stakeholders to minimize customer disruptions.”
The statement also confirms that those who got their prescriptions from these stores do not have to take any action.
Instead, they will be notified by mail that their prescriptions will now be delivered to a different nearby Walgreens.
Walgreens is making sure to benefit those who are being affected by the transfer.
Those who are having their prescriptions moved are eligible for a free 90-day delivery service.
Customers are urged to speak to their pharmacists to learn how to set up that service.

CLOSURE WAVES
Walgreens has announced that it will be closing about 1,200 stores by 2027, which represents about 13% of the chain’s U.S. stores.
It is said that about 500 of those will be closed in 2025.
Walgreens has been closing stores in the state of Wisconsin for a few years now, including two in 2024.
One of those locations closed near Timmerman Airport on Milwaukee’s northwest side.
The second one closed in Milwaukee’s Harambee neighborhood.
Lamont Westmoreland, and Alderman whose district includes the Timmerman Airport area, said: “Now is the time to connect with your health care team to seek alternative pharmacy options — whether that means transferring prescriptions to another Walgreens location, or exploring non-Walgreens pharmacies nearby.
“As your Alderman, I am actively working to bring additional pharmacy options to our area to meet the community’s needs and ensure everyone has access to the medications and health care resources they rely on.”
Ald. Milele Coggs, whose district includes Harambee, said in a separate statement: “I hope those at Walgreens are true to their word when they indicate they will work with the community to minimize disruptions, and not close their doors abruptly like they have at other locations.
“Our residents deserve as much.”
