Reports are surfacing that the California’s Great America park, which is run by Six Flags, could become a relic of the past.

This is because the park’s lease is up for renewal.

As it stands, the lease is set to expire in 2028, meaning that the park in Santa Clara, California, would close after the 2027 Halloween season.

It comes just months after Six Flags chiefs announced that the Six Flags America theme park in Maryland would close.

The amusement park will permanently close on November 2.

Richard Zimmerman, the president and CEO of Six Flags, admitted the decision to close the park wasn’t an easy one to make.

In a bid to reassure theme park fans, he said the company didn’t have plans to close any more locations.

“We will continue to evaluate all options and consider other potential transactions to enhance shareholder value,” he said in an earnings call.

Zimmerman said the decision to close the Six Flags America park was necessary.

Six Flags chiefs have unveiled plans to invest more than $1 billion in its parks.

The investment strategy is part of a bid to “renew experiences,” according to chiefs.

But, rumors that the Six Flags Great America park could be at risk of closure has sparked concern among fans.

“Omg! I used to go as a child. Great memories,” one said.

Meanwhile, others said they need to make trips to the park just before it closes.

Some theme park fanatics called for Six Flags chiefs to open new venues in Arizona.

HISTORIC ATTRACTION

The Great America park in Santa Clara boasts more than 40 rides and first opened in March 1976.

It was previously known as Paramount’s Great America between 1993 and 2006.

Cedar Fair ran the park before it merged with Six Flags in 2024.

One of the most famous rides is the Gold Striker coaster, which opened in 2013.

It is one of the world’s top 10 wooden rollercoasters, according to Amusement Today.

Other rides at the park include Flight Deck, which was formerly known as Top Gun.

And, a popular attraction is the park’s Demon looping rollercoaster.
