Brittney Griner finally breaks silence over viral outburst in Fever-Dream match against Caitlin Clark

WNBA star Brittney Griner has broken her silence over a viral angry moment during a game against Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever.

The Atlanta Dream star has been in the middle of a controversy that she had to address over the weekend.

Griner and the Dream were defeated 81-76 by the Fever in late May.

Late in the game, however, Griner was fouled out as cameras spotted her fuming on the bench and appeared to call the sixth foul decision “trash.”

Fans, however, claimed that Griner said “f***ing white girl” in a racist insult and that the comment was toward the 2024 Rookie of the Year Clark.

Weeks have gone by, and finally, the answer was revealed whether the Dream star center made the comment.

On Sunday, after the Dream’s win over the Washington Mystics, Griner was asked by a reporter if she might have said, “f***ing white girl” and the six-time WNBA All-Star denied using the racial slur.

“No, I would never say that. There’s no place for that in our league, I wouldn’t say that. I was mad about a call,” Griner told a reporter.

“I know it wasn’t that because I wouldn’t use that type of language.

Griner’s answer came after she had told reporters before the game that she did remember the play but couldn’t recall what she said on the bench afterward.

It didn’t make much sense that Griner would aim the insult at Clark, especially because she wasn’t involved with the foul play.

The play involved Griner and Natasha Howard, who is a black player for the Fever.

Griner had a disappointing game by her standards against Indiana.

She posted five points and seven rebounds in the narrow loss.

Clark then missed multiple games due to a quadriceps injury that was revealed after the next game.

The NCAA all-time leading scorer returned on Saturday and had a stellar outing, recording 32 points with nine assists and eight rebounds in a 102-88 win over the New York Liberty.

It was the reigning champion Liberty’s first loss of the season.

Griner and the Dream will look to even up the season series against the Fever as the two teams will face each other on July 11 in Indiana.

But first, the 8-3 Atlanta squad will have a tough assignment on Tuesday.

They will go on the road to take on Sabrina Ionescu and the Liberty squad.
