BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO) —Unless you follow a humane society on social media, or your local newspaper displays adoptable pets, you may not know what animals are in need of a home.
Lager is a two year old yellow lab that is up for adoption at the Brookings Regional Humane Society.
“Very nice for a young adult. He appears to get along well with cats. He likes most people that he meets. We’re still figuring out whether or not he is good with other dogs and everything, but he’s just a nice, sweet, genuine, bouncy lab,” Shelter Manager for the Brookings Regional Humane Society Moiriah Curry said.
It is also the dog that was featured in last week’s Fur Friday.
“Fur Friday is we come to the Humane Society every week with an officer, community service officer, or someone in our admin or dispatch. We bring one person every week to highlight one of the animals here,” said Hudson Spoonemore, the community service officer for Brooking Police.
“Since we do work very often with the Brookings Police Department and the community service officers, with, you know, stray animals and, and hoarding situation and intake,” Curry said. “So we wanted to kind of highlight the other side of that relationship. The adoptable animals that come here.”
This Friday, they’ll be highlighting Dewey, a 7 year old black lab mix— but he acts much younger than that.
The teamwork between the two organizations has benefitted them both.
“It’s a great way for us to have a positive interaction,” Spoonemore said. “With our community, and just show that we’re still human and we love animals just like everyone else. And hopefully it’s a great way for these dogs and cats to find a forever home.”
“We do kind of call it one of our good luck charms, because a lot of times they’ll have the officers come in earlier in the week, they’ll take pictures with the animals. And by the time it’s posted, we’ve already got them adopted,” Curry said.
As of now, both Dewey and Lager are available for adoption.
