Nearly 100 modified motorcycles were seized by police in Buri Ram province on Sunday, September 14, as part of a crackdown on illegal street convoys and unregistered vehicles.

The group, known as the Phor Piang motorcycle group (roughly translating to sufficient), was intercepted while travelling through Ban Dan district en route to Thung Kula Rong Hai in Surin province. The riders claimed the trip was part of a conservation-themed journey.

Traffic police from Ban Dan Police Station stopped the convoy as it passed the station, noting multiple illegal modifications, particularly altered exhaust pipes. Officers also found many of the motorcycles lacked valid registration, tax stickers, and insurance documents.

KhaoSod noted that the operation follows orders from Police Major General Narongsak Promtha, commander of Buri Ram Provincial Police, who has instructed officers to monitor youth gangs and modified vehicle convoys that may cause public disturbances.

A 20 year old rider from Nakhon Ratchasima said the group had gathered at 6am and set off along Highway 226, deliberately avoiding Buri Ram city to evade police checkpoints. However, they were ultimately stopped in Ban Dan district.

Police Colonel Anon Lekdee, superintendent of Ban Dan Police Station, said each vehicle will be thoroughly inspected. Motorcycles with correct documentation will be returned, while those without will be impounded. For riders under 18, police will notify their guardians.

Fines have been issued for multiple traffic violations. Police emphasised the operation was conducted in accordance with the law and aimed at maintaining public order, not to harass or intimidate the riders.

Similarly, in June 2025, dozens of bikers were arrested and hundreds of illegally modified motorcycles were impounded during a long weekend crackdown in Sattahip, Chon Buri. Police launched the operation after receiving complaints about noise and disturbances from large groups gathering at Nang Ram Beach.

Officers targeted bikes with illegal exhausts, missing licence plates, and riders without helmets.
