New Orleans chef killed by gunman while picking up two-year-old son from daycare

The devoted dad was confirmed dead on Tuesday after his body was found in the parking lot.

Cops say the shooter opened fire around 5:15 pm in what became a deadly carjacking.

The suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Raymond Wells, is believed to have stolen the car after shooting the chef, leaving his body in the parking lot.

Wells was found inside the chef’s stolen car later that night with a gunshot wound to the head.

New Orleans Police Department Supt. Nicholas Gernon has said the suspected shooter is in an “extremely grave condition” in hospital.

If he survives his injuries, the 21-year-old will be charged with first-degree murder.

It remains unclear if he was shot or if the wound was self-inflicted.

“It was a truly horrible scene and a horrible crime,” he said of the carjacking murder.

Luke Gower, a local resident and witness to the shooting, described the moment the gunman opened fire.

“I just saw a guy walking right there – he just started unloading his gun,” he said.

“I don’t think he even knew the person. He just aimed at the car and started shooting at it.

“There I was — the next car in line — so I just feel lucky, I guess,” he added.

According to cops, Wells allegedly spent the afternoon skulking around the neighborhood looking for carjacking targets and even shooting at a passerby before killing Morgan.

The sous chef leaves behind his partner, Lisa Marie Lienberger, and their young son, Silas.

“He was such a good human,” Christian Pendleton, the general manager of Brennan’s said.

“He was a dad waiting to pick up his son at daycare. None of this is ever okay.”

Taking to Facebook, Lisa paid tribute to her partner saying she has been left “broken”.

“We lost Carl to senseless violence yesterday,” she wrote.

“He was a great father and an incredibly talented chef.

“It’s still inconceivable to me that he has been ripped away from the joy of watching Silas grow, and that Silas no longer has his father. I am broken, this society is broken.

“We love you, Carl.”

Meanwhile, Brennan’s Restaurant called him a “devoted father, loving partner, cherished son and friend to all”.

This weekend, Morgan was due to lead the restaurant’s booth at the Fried Chicken Festival which is now being used to honor him.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up in memory of him, describing Silas as “his world, his reason, his pride, and his heartbeat”.

The money raised will go towards funeral and memorial expenses as well as supporting his partner and son.

Tribute from Brennan's Restaurant

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Brennan’s restaurant family, we are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support for our sous chef, Carl Morgan, and his family. Carl’s senseless and untimely death is heartbreaking.

Carl was a devoted father, loving partner, cherished son, and friend to all. His remarkable talent, positive energy, and immeasurable impact will be sorely missed at Brennan’s.

Our team is strong, yet we are grieving the loss of our friend and colleague. This weekend, many of us will be at the Brennan’s booth at the Fried Chicken Festival, honoring Carl by continuing the passion project he loved, with net proceeds benefiting his family.

Hug your loved ones tighter, give grace, be nice and live big like Carl.

With love and appreciation,

The Team at Brennan’s

New ‘high risk camera’ law sees drivers face automatic $50 fines when ‘warning period’ ends October 30

A NEW “high risk camera” law will see drivers face automatic $50 fines when the warning period ends October 30.

Drivers now have only days left before the new traffic cameras will automatically report speeding violations to police, who can then issue tickets.

The Memphis Police Department’s (MPD) said the speed limit cameras became operational on Tuesday.

They explained that drivers caught going over seven mph over the speed limit will receive a warning between September 30 and October 30, but after that, drivers face a $50 fine.

The cameras are set up at 15 locations, including high-risk intersections, “S-curves,” and school zones.

Provided by Verra Mobility, they work by capturing the license plate of a speeding vehicle and then sending a video of that vehicle to a police officer.

Officers will then verify the infraction before issuing a fine to the vehicle’s owner reports Fox 13.

City officials say these tickets will be enforced, unlike mail-in citations from other speed cameras, becauselaw enforcement officers review the violations and authorize the tickets for speeders.

Below is a full list of their locations.

  • Union Avenue: Rembert to Morrison (School Zone)
  • Whitney Avenue: Mountain Terrace to Wingate (School Zone)
  • Tillman Street: McAdoo to Tillman Cove (School Zone)
  • Kirby Parkway: Raines to Birchwalk (School Zone)
  • Stratford Road: Bowen to Marcel (School Zone)
  • East Holmes Road: Tulane to Elvis Presley Blvd. (School Zone)
  • Perkins Road: Wooddale to Scottsdale (School Zone) and Reverse Curve
  • North White Station Road: Normandy to Heatherway (School Zone)
  • Getwell Road: Mallory to Elliston (School Zone)
  • New Allen Road: Hawkins Mill Road to Price of Peace Church (Reverse Curve)
  • Tchulahoma Road: Shannon Circle to 400 feet South of Christine (Reverse Curve)
  • McLean Road: Forrest to Faxon (School Zone)
  • Quince Road: Sulgrave to Solway (School Zone)
  • Perkins Road: 100 feet South of Chip to 100 feet North of Perkins Cove (Reverse Curve)

October brought not only chilly weather to the United States, but also a slew of new road laws and driving rule changes that will impact millions of drivers.

These legislative additions address everything from official classification of certain offenses to introducing new stipulations that will levy heavy fines against offenders.

In total, 14 new laws went into effect on October 1 across the United States, with many areas enacting multiple new laws on this date.

Some focus on impaired driving and how offenders can be prosecuted in court, while others address more mundane offenses like speeding and parking violations.

Motorists in the regions where these new laws are coming into effect are best served by brushing up on what’s expected of them from this week on. – here are just a few of them.

Few traffic laws will cost drivers more than Maryland’s new speed cameras and graduated fine scale, which could charge up to $425 for motorists going 40 mph or over the posted limit.

One of the most culturally relevant laws going into effect on October 1 comes from Connecticut, which has permitted local municipalities to adopt ordinances against street takeovers.

Connecticut House Bill 7132 will allow local and state police, called “peace officers,” to begin stopping vehicles solely for violations related to ingesting cannabis in any way, shape, or form while behind the wheel of a car.

In Florida, a major tourist destination is set to introduce new parking price changes from October onward.

Similarly, a Maine town has expanded its paid parking conversion to its downtown area after seeing great success in initial, smaller areas.

In Hoboken, New Jersey, cameras will monitor roads and automatically ticket violators of certain parking laws.

Maryland has cracked down on the licensing privileges of motorists who’ve been convicted of impaired driving.

Florida introduces several significant laws this month, but the most financially costly comes in the form of a $5,000 fine and up to five years in prison for having specific aftermarket lights.

Another Florida law seeks to double the maximum sentences of repeat DUI and BUI offenders, as well as vehicular homicide offenders, to 30 years in prison.

New October driving laws and rules

  • Maryland drivers who go 30 mph or higher over the posted speed limit will be charged with reckless driving and hit with up to 60 days in jail and $1,000 in fines. The same law also introduces new speeding cameras and a graduated fine scale, going as high as $425 for going 40 mph or higher over the limit.
  • Maryland will also begin revoking the licenses of motorists convicted of impaired driving if they fled the scene of or caused death or life-threatening injury to someone involved in the incident they were convicted for. Application for reinstatement is possible to those affected after a certain time.
  • Florida drivers with certain front-facing aftermarket lighting setups who are believed to be imitating or impersonating law enforcement while driving will be hit with up to $5,000 in fines and up to five years in prison.
  • Florida will also begin forcing drivers who crash into property or another vehicle and flee the scene to pay for any damage they’ve caused.
  • Another new Florida law will punish drivers who lead law enforcement on car chases, raising these offenses by one classification level and increasing their jail time accordingly. Repeat offenders will also have their sentences increased by 50%.
  • The final new law for Florida will seek to increase the max sentences for repeat DUI and BUI offenders to 30 years from 15 years. The law will also make refusing a urine or breath test a misdemeanor offense, with repeat offenses raising the degree.
  • Connecticut will officially classify reckless driving as a traffic offense from October 1 onward, defining it as driving at speeds of 100 mph or higher. Offenders can be hit with up to $1,000 in fines, a year in prison, and may have their vehicles impounded at the arresting officer’s discretion.
  • Motorcycle drivers in Connecticut also have a new law to look out for, which will raise the mandatory helmet age threshold from 18 to 21 years old. Violators will be hit with fines ranging from $90 to $250, and the law also applies to riders of e-bikes with batteries higher than 750 watts.
  • Connecticut will restrict predatory towing practices, which include forcing tow companies to take credit card payments, making it more difficult for them to sell a car in their possession, and restricting what they can tow vehicles for.
  • Hoboken, New Jersey, will begin implementing traffic cameras focused on sending out parking tickets to violators, doing so without giving them any immediate notification. Violations the cameras are monitoring include double parking, blocking bike lanes, stopping in bike zones, and improper use of loading zones.

Bad Bunny is ‘planning to bring Drake’ on stage during Super Bowl halftime show after Kendrick Lamar diss performance

BAD Bunny has asked Drake to join him on stage during the Super Bowl halftime show just a year after the rapper’s bitter Kendrick Lamar fall-out, insiders have told The U.S. Sun.

The Puerto Rican rapper has bagged the coveted slot at the NFL showpiece in Santa Clara next February, with sources claiming performance plans are already in motion.

Kendrick Lamar caused a storm in New Orleans earlier this year by dropping his smash-hit diss track Not Like Us during the Super Bowl[/caption]

Twelve months after Kendrick Lamar’s controversial performance featuring Drake diss track Not Like Us, the Canadian superstar is set to be the center of attention once again- in a much more positive way.

Drake and Bad Bunny famously collaborated in 2018 on the song MIA.

The song not only cemented Bad Bunny’s crossover appeal, but also showcased Drake’s appreciation for Latin music.

Drake’s potential appearance at the Super Bowl also comes as his lawsuit against music company UMG continues to rage behind the scenes.

Drake is suing his label for defamation, accusing them of deliberately pushing Kendrick’s controversial track Not Like Us – in which there are not-so-subtle accusations of him having sexual involvment with minors – to tarnish his brand and pressure him into a new deal.

Universal Music Group has hit back, with CEO Lucian Grainge dismissing the case as “farcical” and moving to have it thrown out.

The dispute is now in discovery, with Drake demanding internal records on the song’s rollout, related contracts, and possible evidence of bot-driven streaming inflation.

A source close to Bad Bunny has told The U.S. Sun that he wants to use his appearance on a truly global stage to “showcase his creativity and talent” and wants his performance to be “a tribute to the history of Latin music and Puerto Rico.”

The insider claims artists like Jennifer Lopez and J Balvin are being eyed. Cardi B has also been mentioned.

But Drake’s appearance would set tongues seriously wagging.

Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, “doesn’t care about the beef or the controversies from last year with Kendrick Lamar; he wants to show support to his brother, as Drake helped him a lot in the first years of his career,” the source said.

“He is a loyal guy who always wants to show gratitude to the people who have worked with him or helped him, and Drake is a very important person in his journey as an artist.”

A second source added: “He knows that Drake would deserve a full halftime show for himself, to be the main artist for this kind of event, but Benito absolutely wants him on stage for some songs.”

FIGHT ERUPTED

The U.S. Sun reported extensively about Kendrick’s refusal to bow to NFL demands in New Orleans ahead of the clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles and not include the controversial parts of the track which has won multiple Grammy awards.

The Super Bowl halftime show is managed by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, but in the aftermath of the fall-out earlier this year, insiders said NFL bosses regretted the move to give Kendrick the gig ahead of local favorite Lil Wayne.

As The U.S. Sun exclusively revealed, Kendrick didn’t dial back despite pressure to soften his performance.

DRAKE & KENDRICK FEUD TIMELINE

On October 6, 2023, Drake and J. Cole released First Person Shooter, in which J. Cole claimed that himself, Drake, and Kendrick are the “big three” of hip-hop.

On March 22, 2024, Kendrick responded to the claim of a “big three” in his verse on Metro Boomin and Future’s song Like That, where he instead stated, “It’s just big me,” and accused both rappers of sneak dissing.

On April 5, 2024, J. Cole dropped his Kendrick diss track, 7 Minute Drill, in which he fired “warning shots” at the rapper as he accused the good kid, m.A.A.d city artist of seeking “attention” and slammed his latest music releases as “tragic.”

But on April 7, 2024, two days after releasing the Kendrick diss, J. Cole retracted his statement and backed out of the feud, as he stated he felt pressured to respond because “the world wanna see blood.”

On April 13, 2024, Drake responded to Kendrick with Push Ups, which had lyrics ridiculing Kendrick’s height and his mainstream collaborations with Taylor Swift and Maroon 5.

The track also dissed rappers Future and Rick Ross and producer Metro Boomin.

On April 19, 2024, Drake dropped another diss track, Taylor Made Freestyle, that used AI-generated voices of Snoop Dogg and the late Tupac Shakur to pressure Kendrick to respond.

On April 30, 2024, Kendrick dropped Euphoria, a six-minute diss track, in which he criticized Drake’s biracial identity, questioned the rapper’s ability as a father, and claimed that Drake is a “scam artist.”

On May 1, 2024, Drake responded to Kendrick’s diss by posting a clip from the 1999 film 10 Things I Hate About You on his Instagram Story in which Julia Stiles’ character Kat lists the reasons she hates Heath Ledger’s character Patrick – mirroring a Euphoria bar where Lamar provides reasons he hates Drake.

On May 3, 2024, Kendrick dropped a second Drake diss track, 6:16 in LA in which Kendrick alleges Drake’s own team is working against him as he rapped, “Everyone inside your team is whispering that you deserve it,” and stated Drake “can’t Toosie Slide up out of this one.”

After Drake responded with his diss track Family Matters, where he called accused Kendrick of infidelity, the Humble hitmaker would release Meet the Grahams, his fourth diss track against the Canadian rapper.

While he skipped actually singing the word “pedophile” before a global TV audience of hundreds of millions, he delivered the rest of the lyrics with full force — including the notorious “A minor” line that the crowd loudly joined in on.

According to a friend of Kendrick’s, even his stage jewelry carried a message: the glittering, $1.2 million necklace he wore, set with 515 diamonds and featuring a lowercase “a,” was another pointed jab at Drake.

Bad Bunny’s show, however, will aim to steer clear of any controversies and instead send out a message of  “peace, love, and respect” in what is being billed as a “unique” show.

“He is a voice for minorities and the Latino community, and he wants to use that platform to its fullest during the halftime show,” said the source.

“He won’t soften up his social engagement and commitments to be a voice for the people just because of the halftime show.

“It has all the makings of a historic night.”
