Pirates fan, 21, rushed to hospital after plunging from stands is seen in court with friend charged with his fall

A MAN who nearly died after plummeting two stories at a Pittsburgh Pirates game showed up in court to support his friend, who is accused of causing the fall.

Kavan Markwood, 21, made national news in April for falling over a 21-foot wall at PNC Park, causing him to spend months recovering from the near-fatal fall.

Markwood was not believed to have been intoxicated during the incident and just fell over the wall out of excitement.

No charges were pressed against Markwood, as the fall was deemed accidental.

However, police say credit card receipts show that Markwood’s friend, Ethan Kirkwood, had purchased two beers for the 20-year-old Pirates fan at the time of the game, CBS News affiliate KDKA reported.

Kirkwood was charged with two misdemeanors for selling or furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Kirkwood appeared in court on September 29, where one of the charges was waived, leaving him to face just one misdemeanor.

Kirkwood’s lawyer said that he and Markwood have a brotherly bond, as they’ve lived together since Markwood’s parents passed away.

The bond was proven as Markwood showed up to support Kirkwood during his hearing.

Records indicate that Kirkwood is scheduled to appear in court again on November 13.

A spokesperson for the Pittsburgh Pirates told KDKA that receipts from the April 30 game, in which Markwood was injured, showed that someone in his group had legally purchased drinks four times.

PNC Park has a two-drink limit, meaning only two drinks can be bought at a time, so the purchaser went up four separate times to purchase alcohol.

In total, the of-age fan bought four beers and three Surfsides.

“We are committed to creating a fan experience that is both enjoyable and safe, and our long-standing alcohol compliance program is fundamental to that commitment,” a food service provider for PMC Park told KDKA.

“Our thoughts remain with the fan and his friends and family.”

ROAD TO RECOVERY

Markwood’s shocking fall caused panic in the stadium during the Pittsburgh Pirates versus Chicago Cubs game as medical professionals rushed to help the fan.

Players on both teams took a knee as the fan was being helped and escorted out of PNC Park.

Markwood’s recovery was uncertain at first, but just days late,r his family members said he was “awake, alert, and able to speak.”

“Kav took his first steps today! It’s a slow, slow process, but seeing him up and moving was a huge win and definitely lifted everyone’s spirits,” Jennifer Phillips wrote in an update.

Markwood’s doctors also praised his recovery efforts, saying the fan has “progressed really, really well.”

“He’s at a point now where he’s off the breathing machine, he’s out of the intensive care unit, and he’s preparing to move to the next step, which will be physical therapy rehab,” Allegheny General Hospital Chief Medical Officer Dr. Al Philp said in May.

“Seeing him recover so quickly has really been gratifying, frankly, ahead of schedule from what we would have anticipated given the real severity of his injuries.”

Previously, Julia and Adriana used to be best friends, although this became strained.

Julia, 53, has been married to tennis legend Martina Navratilova since 2014.

She accused Adriana of not supporting her in adopting two kids – which she denied.

Speaking during the seven cast reunion, Julia made a shock revelation in front of her castmates.

She shared: “I would like to say something that I think would bring clarity hopefully, why we are where we are.

“In the Hamptons, Adriana and I slept together.”

The pair’s fellow Real Housewives of Miami stars gasped as they heard this information.

Julia told host Andy Cohen backstage: “We slept together once, then we fooled around in the Versace mansion.”

Adriana told Julia: “You go around trying to seduce everybody. Cheat on your wife.”

One fan wrote online: “THE WAY MY JAW WAS ON THE FLOOR.”

Another theorised: “I think Marisol pushed Julia to come out with that secret…because she hates Adriana.”

A third shared: “Julia is a bad friend outting her like that.”

While a fourth remarked: “So she’s a bad friend and a bad wife. Gotcha.

“Wow, Julia is a piece of work.”

Former model and beauty paegant holder Julia joined Real Housewives of Miami in 2021.

Last August, she and wife Martina, 68, adopted two boys into their family.

Teresa Giudice bowed out of the training after refusing to watch her daughter, Gia Giudice, in the boxing match.

The emotional The Real Housewives of New Jersey star was faced with watching her daughter step into the ring for a sparring match against another contestant.

Gia was set to face off against former U.S. soccer pro Christie Pearce Rampone.

She left voluntarily, explaining that she couldn’t witness her daughter fighting without stepping in to defend her.

Overcome with worry, Teresa abruptly walked out, refusing to watch the fight.

She left in tears, shocking viewers with her sudden departure from the show.

The 53-year-old said: “I’m withdrawing. I can’t see you fight. You got this. Love you guys.”

She added: “I’m not a quitter, but it’s going to be hard for me to not be able to step in if Gia’s in a vulnerable position.

“I just want to protect her.”

Gia ended up losing her match, but the DS assured her she gave a “valiant effort.”

Other abrupt exits

There have now been three recruits who have departed the show.

Also in the episode, Eva Marcille emerged lifeless in the water during a gruelling underwater challenge, forcing divers to intervene and rescue her.

The model was breathing, but visibly shaken by the incident.

She was forced to leave the show after doctors advised her to quit for good for her own safety.

The Valley star, Brittany Cartwright, also abruptly quit, but on the first day of training.

Brittany struggled to complete the intense courses, which involved rappelling out of a helicopter and hauling heavy equipment up a hill.

She ultimately decided to leave after 15 hours into the 10-day training.

Diddy releases bizarre 12-min video showing him as ‘do-gooder’ as he tries to dodge 11 years in jail over ‘freak offs’

SEAN “Diddy” Combs’ defence team has posted a bizarre video showcasing the disgraced rapper as a “do-gooder” ahead of his sentencing.

The nearly 12-minute video features dozens of clips of Combs playing with children, helping the elderly and raising money for charity.

The disgraced music mogul, 55, is facing a maximum of 20 years behind bars as he attempts to make a last minute plea for freedom.

The footage is reportedly set to be played in court later today to help prove Combs good nature despite his convictions.

It comes as the music mogul begged Manhattan Judge Arun Subramanian for mercy in a four-page apology letter ahead of his sentencing.

He apologised “for all of the hurt and pain that I have caused”.

Adding that he is now a reformed man following over a year of being incarcerated in a Brooklyn jail.

Combs wrote: “I literally lost my mind. I’m sorry for that and always will be.

“My domestic violence will always be a heavy burden that I will have to forever carry.”

He was referencing an assault on his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, which formed part of the bombshell trial.

In his grovelling letter, Combs blamed his actions on drugs.

“I lost my way. My downfall was rooted in my selfishness. I have been humbled and broken to my core,” he penned.

“The old me died in jail and a new version of me was born. Prison will change you or kill you – I choose to live.”

His fellow inmates have even handed in glowing handwritten testimonials in favour of Combs after the rapper spent his time inside hosting classes.

The 55-year-old has reportedly been running a weekly session called “Free Game with Diddy.”

Inmates say it covers everything from entrepreneurship to health advice, while also giving them a chance to “pick his brain” about fame and money.

Douglas Welch, 42, told Judge Arun Subramanian that Combs “brings love into the Unit” and claimed the class pushed him to go “harder at my health journey”.

Another inmate, Quinton Davis, said the sessions included “business Management, entrepreneurship and life skills,” adding that Combs had even encouraged the group to use “AI and Chat GPT.”

“It’s a key factor and inside scoop on how Mr. Combs started from nothing and became the icon-business mogul he is today,” Davis explained.

Back in July, Combs was the focus of a shocking near eight-week trial around his criminal actions across decades in the music industry.

He was convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.

But acquitted of his most serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking – meaning he avoided a much lengthier sentence.

Chase users hit with new monthly $15 service fee on ‘most popular checking account’ thanks to policy change

CHASE customers are being warned fees are increasing on the bank’s “most popular” checking account.

Monthly fees on the Chase Total Checking account have increased from $12 to $15.

The change occurred in August 24 this year, meaning customers are now being hit with higher charges each month.

However, there are ways to avoid the monthly fees.

In order to pay nothing, customers should make sure there is at least $1,500 or more in the account at the beginning of each day.

Or, shoppers can also have an average of more than $5,000 in any combination of this account and other linked qualifying Chase accounts.

Lastly, you can avoid the fee by adding money to the account through electronic deposits made into the account totaling $500 or more.

For some people, this means setting up your weekly pay to be transferred into this account or even getting your government benefits paid into it.

Chase quietly made the change after President Donald Trump overturned a rule which cracked down on banks charging overdraft fees.

FEE CRACK DOWN

In 2023, the Biden administration introduced a plan to cap the amount banks could charge in fees, a move which was opposed by major banking institutions including Chase.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau had proposed benchmarks curbing the amount banks could charge in line with “their costs or in accordance with an established benchmark”.

The proposal, which was overturned, would have saved families billions each year.

Chase customers are furious about the fee increase, complaining that “no one should be paying any fees to have a checking account”.

SHOPPERS FUME

Another shopper called the fee increase “ridiculous”.

Some said it was easy to avoid the fees, by following the instructions from the bank to introduce mandatory weekly deposits or keep the balance above $1,500.

Chase isn’t the only bank to increase monthly fees, which is part of a wider trend as banks seek to increase revenue.

FEES RISE

A number of other banks are increasing fees for customers and closing locations

  • Wells Fargo customers should expect new monthly $15 fee in everyday checking accounts thanks to an October 25 policy change
  • Capital One has switched its payment network over to Discover, in a $35 billion move shoppers fear will lead to higher fees
  • TD Bank has confirmed it is closing at least 35 branches this year

According to research from Bankrate, average minimum balance required to avoid service fees has reached a record high.

The average monthly fee for interest checking accounts is now $15,65, with the average minimum balance to avoid this fee being $10,705 which is up nearly 5% over the past year.

Bankrate suggests you should shop around and consider alternative banking options.

For example, online banks often don’t charge any fees given they do not have any brick-and-mortar overhead costs.

Also, member-owned and not-for-profit credit unions often offer lower fees on their products and prioritze member service.
