RORY MCILROY was one of Team Europe’s heroes at the Ryder Cup.
He scored three points to help his team to a historic win on American soil – just Team Europe‘s fifth ever.

And he did so while having to deal with abuse from the home crowd, with even his wife Erica Stoll on the receiving end of insults and missiles being thrown.
McIlroy has garnered plenty of respect with his display at Bethpage Black but it has sparked some bogus claims from social media accounts.
In the wake of Team Europe’s 15-13 victory it was claimed McIlroy donated his $10.9million bonus to a charity in Northern Ireland.
However Team Europe stars do not get paid for their participation in the Ryder Cup, and there are no bonuses.
The US team did each get paid a stipend of $200,000 on top of a $300,000 which is to be given to charity.
It is the first time players have ever been paid in the Ryder Cup.
The 29-year-old said: “My wife and I like to do a lot of stuff in our local community and I’ve never been one to announce what we do.
“I don’t like to give charitable dollars for some kind of recognition. We have something planned for the money that we’ll be receiving.
“I think it’s a really cool thing that the PGA of America has empowered us to do.
“I have a deep passion for the city of Dallas, I have a deep passion for the organisations that we support at home, and I’m excited to be able to take this money and be able to do some good in our local community.”
Cantlay was the pantomime villain in Rome two years ago whenhe refused to wear the US cap– earning him the nickname ‘No Hat Pat’.
Cantlay insisted the reason behind his lack of headgear was because no cap fitted – while there were also suggestions he didn’t want a tan line before his wedding.
But much of the talk was whether it was an act of rebellion because the USA players were not being paid to play in the Ryder Cup.

Quarterback Mahomes, 30, has explained that the Chiefs have looked to celebrate the album’s release.
He explained to Kansas City radio show The Drive on 96.5FM that the entire team have gotten behind their most famous supporter.
The three-time Super Bowl MVP has claimed that the Chiefs will be playing the album during their Friday practice.
“Oh, yeah, for sure. I’m super excited,” Mahomes said yesterday. “I haven’t been able to hear the album yet, but I’m super excited to be able to do that.”
“It’ll be blaring all through the Chiefs facility tomorrow. We’ll be supporting Taylor.”
Swift has become associated with the Chiefs since she started dating tight end Travis Kelce, 35, in 2023.
Their engagement in August has since sent shockwaves across the pop culture world.

All you need is a little bit of vaseline to apply to the areas you want to keep paint-free.
Vaseline, which can be picked up from shops for just £1.25, works as a ‘paint blocker’ and stops it from getting on surfaces.
Lucy explains: “Vaseline has many benefits, including acting as a temporary barrier for paint.
“Before painting, apply vaseline to any areas you don’t want the paint to stick to, such as door handles or window frames.
“So simple and effective, and small pots can be purchased for £1.25, so it’s no surprise the pros swear by this trick.”
Lucy has also shared another tip to help DIY-ers keep a nice, clean finish on their walls.
She insists that maintaining a wet edge while painting can give you the smoothest possible finish on your walls.
She said: “Most beginners will often paint a wall and then paint the edges separately.
“In some cases, this might be on another day.
“However, this can cause your paint to dry unevenly, creating lines and streaks.
“Instead, you should ensure that the edge is always wet when painting, as this will help you to achieve a smoother finish.”
Lucy also urged homeowners not to underestimate the benefits of applying a ‘most coat’.
The interior pro reveals: “A mist coat is made of watered-down emulsion paint and acts as a primer that should be applied onto freshly plastered walls.
“The extra moisture allows for better paint adhesion and prevents the topcoat from flaking or peeling.
“The mist coat is very runny, so whenever you spot drips or streaks, paint over them quickly to prevent them from drying and ruining your perfect finish.
“It’s important to wait 24 hours for your mist coat to dry before you apply the topcoat”.

Cleaning up after you finish painting can feel like a chore all on it's own just when you think you've done everything.
But Lucy says that one £2 household item can seamlessly clean up your paint brushes and leave them looking brand new.
Just add some fabric softener to your brushes and soak them in water and you’re good to go.
She said: “Fabric softener is the key ingredient to cleaning your brushes in no time at all, particularly when using water-based paints.
“Simply mix the fabric softener with water and soak the brushes in the solution for around 10 to 15 minutes.
“Once soaked, rinse the brush and dry. This technique is also great for reviving old brushes too, as it helps to loosen the paint in the middle of the brush and soften any dried paint.
“Fabric softener is often used by professionals and can be purchased for as little as £2!”
