Why is Usain Bolt not playing in Soccer Aid 2025?

USAIN BOLT has quickly become a Soccer Aid legend – but the sprinting superstar will NOT feature tonight.

The Jamaican world record holder is no stranger to the huge occasion having featured in several Soccer Aid charity matches dating back to before Covid in 2020.

And Bolt captained the World XI side, who went toe-to-toe with England at Stamford Bridge last year.

However, it ended miserably because not only did the World XI’s five-game winning run come to an abrupt end after suffering a 6-3 thrashing in 2024.

But the sprinting phenomenon was forced to leave the field early, which seems to be the reason why he has been ruled out of the mouthwatering 2025 edition.

Why is Usain Bolt not playing in Soccer Aid 2025?

Usain Bolt has not officially confirmed the reason why he is not participating in Soccer Aid 2025.

But it is more than likely due to the severe injury that he sustained in last year’s iconic event.

The Jamaican was stretchered off during the second half of Soccer Aid after being strongly tackled by Danny Dyer.

Following the challenge, Bolt managed to continue, but the pain wore on throughout the game, and he couldn’t carry on.

However, Usain Bolt could not carry on and was forced off on a stretcher

As he chased back to defend against an England attack, he fell to the ground holding his leg before being taken off.

Bolt then revealed after Soccer Aid that he actually suffered a serious injury during the game – a ruptured Achilles.

It forced him to have surgery on the issue, and a few days later, he would go on to post an update on Instagram.

Aldi shoppers devastated after discounter axes ‘addictive’ crisp flavour

ALDI has axed a popular crisp flavour leaving shoppers devastated.

Specially Selected Prawn Cocktail Crisps have now permanently disappeared from the discounter’s shelves.

Aldi prawn cocktail crisps have been discontinued

The savoury snack was made with British potatoes and part of its premium food range.

A packet cost around £1 and was only sold in Aldi.

Eagle-eyed customers took to social media to find out what happened to the delight.

Writing on X, one customer said: “What’s happened to the prawn cocktail crisps? Bring them back please!.”

A spokesperson confirmed in a response to the customer that the crisp flavour was no more.

They said: “We have discontinued this product. Sorry for any disappointment.”

An Aldi spokesperson also told The Sun: “We continually review our range of products to make sure we’re meeting the needs of Aldi shoppers.

“We understand that some customers were disappointed to see the Specially Selected Prawn Cocktail Crisps go.

They added: “But the Snackrite Prawn Cocktail Crisps are a great alternative in our stores that continue to prove really popular with shoppers.”

The move will come as a blow to shoppers who have described them as “amazing” and “addictive”.

Another fan said the crisps had the “most flavour” of any on the market…so sad.

While a third said: “I’m not exaggerating to say they were the best I’d ever tasted (in any flavour). We need people to demand a return.”

It is not the first time Aldi has axed a product customers love.

Aldi quietly removed the Specially Selected Caramel Layered Yogurt from its shelves.

Shoppers only discovered the yogurt was discontinued after failing to find it in their local shop.

The German discounter has dropped Deli Smoked Pork Sausage and Deli Smoked Reduced Fat Pork Sausage 160g packs from many of its shelves.

OTHER DISCONTINUED PRODUCTS

Aldi is not the only grocer which has shaken up the products it sells on shelves.

Tesco eight packs of beef sausages are no more after it is understood the supermarket stopped stocking them.

The meaty item is also showing as “currently out of stock” on the chain’s website.

Customers can still buy six packs of Tesco Finest Aberdeen Angus Beef Sausages for £3 and four packs of Tesco Finest Pork and Beef smoked sausages for £4.

Elsewhere, Asda’s store brand Creamy Peppercorn Sauce has now permanently disappeared from supermarket shelves.

The sauce, which is usually served with steak, was a fan favourite with shoppers.

Why are products axed or recipes changed?

ANALYSIS by chief consumer reporter James Flanders.

Food and drinks makers have been known to tweak their recipes or axe items altogether.

They often say that this is down to the changing tastes of customers.

There are several reasons why this could be done.

For example, government regulation, like the “sugar tax,” forces firms to change their recipes.

Some manufacturers might choose to tweak ingredients to cut costs.

They may opt for a cheaper alternative, especially when costs are rising to keep prices stable.

For example, Tango Cherry disappeared from shelves in 2018.

It has recently returned after six years away but as a sugar-free version.

Fanta removed sweetener from its sugar-free alternative earlier this year.

Suntory tweaked the flavour of its flagship Lucozade Original and Orange energy drinks.

While the amount of sugar in every bottle remains unchanged, the supplier swapped out the sweetener aspartame for sucralose.

It is currently unclear what exactly caused the tragic crash.

Emergency services are understood to have rushed to the scene to help injured people following the horrifying ordeal.

Hot air ballooning is a popular activity for tourists in central Turkey.

The region is home to attractions such as the “fairy chimneys” in Cappadocia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Terrifying footage shared by the Ilhas News Agency showed the deflated balloon descending from the skies, with its passenger basket lying sideways.

Emergency services could also be seen nearby, tending to injured people.

It comes as the latest in a string of recent aviation disasters.

On Thursday, Air India Flight AI171 smashed into a doctors’ hostel in Ahmedabad, killing at least 279 people.

The London Gatwick-bound Boeng Dreamliner was seen on video descending less than a minute after take off, before blowing up into a horrifying fireball.

And on Sunday, seven people including a toddler died after a helicopter carrying Hindu pilgrims from a shrine crashed in the Himalayas.

The chopper reportedly crashed within just minutes of taking off on Sunday, during what was supposed to be a 10-minute flight.

At least 7 dead in India helicopter crash as chopper carrying pilgrims goes down days after Air India disaster

SEVEN people including a toddler have died after a helicopter carrying Hindu pilgrims from a shrine crashed in the Himalayas.

The chopper reportedly crashed within just minutes of taking off on Sunday, during what was supposed to be a 10-minute flight.

The pilot and all six passengers were killed after the helicopter plummeted down during their flight from Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand state, according to local authorities.

They were on their way to Guptkashi, a prominent Hindu pilgrimage site in the Himalayas.

Footage of the aftermath showed smoke rising from the site of the crash while rescue workers surrounded the chopper.

All of the seven bodies were badly burned in the fire which raged on after the initial smash.

State chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said rescue teams had been sent to the scene following the “very sad news“.

The local tourism official said that the tragic crash was likely caused by bad weather conditions.

The chopper was operated by private helicopter service Aryan Aviation.

It descended and crashed in a forested area several miles from the Kedarnath pilgrimage route at around 5.30am local time.

Horrifying images showed smoke billowing up from the ruins of the crashed chopper.

Rescue teams worked together on the scene, in front of the burning pile of destroyed helicopter parts.

Tens of thousands of pilgrims visit Kedarnath every summer.

It is home to one of the four most sacred Hindu temple shrines.

Travelling by helicopter there is common due to the challenging mountainous terrain.

It comes just days after Air India’s London Gatwick-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner smashed into a doctor’s hostel in Ahmedabad, India.

Some 241 passengers and crew are believed to have been killed – leaving a miracle sole survivor – and 28 people on the ground also died.

Devastated families are now desperate for answers

Full video of the crash shows the plane heading down the runway before lifting into the air.

After barely 30 seconds the plane appears to dip and goes begins an agonising descent back to the ground.

It then exploded in a fireball as it crashed into the nearby doctors’ hostel.

Investigations are still ongoing into the cause of the crash – with at least one of the black boxes recovered from the wreck.

Both pilot Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and co-pilot Clive Kunder and believed to be among the dead.

Mr Sabharwal, who had 8,200 hours of experience, while his colleague Mr Kunder had 1,100 hours.

The sole survivor of the crash – Vishwash Ramesh – could also provide key clues as to what happened to the plane.

He said cabin lights began flickering before the jet sank through the air and crashed.

Recalling the moments before tragedy, Vishwash, from Leicester, said: “When the flight took off, within five to 10 seconds it felt like it was stuck in the air.

“Suddenly, the lights started flickering – green and white.

“The aircraft wasn’t gaining altitude and was just gliding before it suddenly slammed into a building and exploded.”

And although the main goal is to raise money for charity, it can often get really competitive.

But what is the prize that some of the world’s biggest names are battling for?

What do the winners of Soccer Aid get?

The winners of Soccer Aid are presented with a medal each and get the chance to lift the famous title.

There is no prize money as the sole purpose of the annual match is to raise money for charity as well as entertain its spectators.

And Soccer Aid 2024 raised a huge £15 million, bringing the total since the charity match was founded in 2006 to over £106million.

Who is the Soccer Aid top goal scorer?

SOCCER AID is all about entertainment while raising money for charity – but celebrities thrive off hitting the back of the net and they’ll get the chance to do it once again TONIGHT!

Premier League legends Teddy Sheringham and Alan Shearer have proved that they haven’t lost their touch by bagging their fair share of goals during Soccer Aid matches.

Ex-Tottenham trio Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov have also got on the score sheet on a couple of occasions themselves.

But shockingly, the top scorer in Soccer Aid is NOT a former professional footballer.

Who is the top scorer in Soccer Aid history?

Kem Cetinay – five goals

Ex-Love Islander Kem Cetinay is the top goal scorer in Soccer Aid history.

Kem has bagged five goals in four Soccer Aid appearances after breaking the record in 2023.

Kem – who plays for the World XI – got his goal tally underway in 2019 in the 2-2 draw.

He scored again after the game went to penalties, but goals scored in a shootout do not count in the overall tally.

In 2020, Kem again blasted home a penalty in the shootout to hand victory to the World XI again.

In 2021, he scored twice in the 3-1 victory over England, and he added another goal in 2022, while again scoring from the spot during penalties.

In 2023, his 80th minute goal sealed a 4-2 win for the World XI, and took his tally to five.

The social media star’s mum confirmed the footie fan used to sleep in his football boots as a child, which explains his gifted technical ability.

Clarence Seedorf – four goals

Clarence Seedorf holds the record for the second-highest Soccer Aid scorer.

The Dutch footballer has hit the back of the net four times.

However, he is the only star to have bagged a hat-trick.

Seedorf achieved this during the 4-2 win over England in 2014.

He bagged his fourth goal for the World XI in 2018.

Robbie Keane – four goals

Robbie Keane is tied for second in the standings with four strikes.

The Irish player first scored for the World XI in the 3-3 draw in 2018 – along with Seedorf.

He bagged his second in 2020, before getting a brace in 2023.

Here are the current standings ahead of the 2025 match:

  • Kem Cetinay (World XI) – 5
  • Clarence Seedorf (World XI) – 4
  • Robbie Keane (World XI) – 4
  • Teddy Sheringham (England) – 3
  • Jonathan Wilkes (England) – 3
  • Jeremy Lynch (England) – 3
  • Alan Shearer (England) – 2
  • Paolo Di Canio (World XI) – 2
  • Jamie Redknapp (England) – 2
  • Kevin Phillips (England) – 2
  • Dimitar Berbatov (World XI) – 2
  • Jermain Defoe (England) – 2
  • Mark Wright (England) – 2

Kick-off is scheduled for 7.30pm, with coverage free to view on ITV1 and streaming available on ITVX.
