Dad of aspiring teacher, 22, ‘executed in cold blood by career criminal’ issues chilling four-word demand for ‘justice’

THE dad of a 22-year-old aspiring teacher who was executed by an intruder as she stayed at a friend’s house has issued a chilling demand for justice.

Mourning father Stephen Federico blasted the court system after his daughter Logan Federico was allegedly shot in the chest by a repeat felon.

Federico said his daughter was naked, on her knees, and begging for her life when she was killed inside a University of South Carolina frat house in Columbia on May 3.

The North Carolina native had just gone out with friends and was in bed with her boyfriend when the burglar burst inside.

Alexander Dickey, 30, has been arrested and accused of killing Logan during a multi-day crime spree.

Before his latest arrest, he had been arrested 39 other times, 25 of which were for felony charges, throughout the span of 10 years.

However, he only spent 600 days behind bars, Federico said.

State prosecutors are weighing the death penalty as they prepare to convict him of fresh charges brought on by the latest spree.

But furious dad Federico believes the entire trial should be handled in a federal court, as he blames the South Carolina justice system for allowing Dickey to walk free.

“Logan believes in accountability,” he told the SC Daily Gazette.

“She forgave, she forgot, but she believed people should be held accountable.”

In the emotional interview, Federico issued a tense four-word call for justice as he vowed to never stop fighting for his daughter.

“He executed Logan,” said the dad.

“I want him dead.”

CRIMINAL PAST

Logan was killed in the midst of a violent crime spree that started with Dickey stealing a car and ended with him setting a house on fire, cops said.

The repeat felon has dodged potentially lengthy stays in prison by taking plea deals and getting charges tacked down, his criminal record reveals.

Most of his felony arrests were for breaking into vehicles, but others were for theft and burglary. Ten of his run-ins with cops were traffic-related.

When he was 19, Dickey was sentenced to five years in prison for a grand larceny conviction, but he only served half, the local paper reported.

When he was 24, he was sentenced to four years for strong-arm robbery, but he only served just over one year.

SYSTEM GLITCH

Lexington County’s chief prosecutor admitted that a glitch in the system led to Dickey getting let off without a jail sentence for another court case in 2023.

At the time, the criminal was arrested for burglary again.

The judge had the option to reject a plea deal that was made and pursue original charges that could lead to up to 10 years in jail.

However, the court decided that the 411 days Dickey spent waiting in jail were a fair sentence and let him out on probation.

“Like all prosecutors, our assistant solicitor who handled the 2024 burglary 3rd charge relied on Dickey’s RAP sheet,” Eleventh Circuit Solicitor Rick Hubbard told NBC affiliate WIS-TV.

“For some reason unknown to us, Dickey’s RAP sheet does not include any prior burglary convictions.”

Hubbard admitted that, had they known about his previous convictions, they wouldn’t have pursued the case as a first offense, and the criminal likely would have received a longer sentence.

FATHER’S FURY

Federico has stressed that his daughter, who was 5 foot 3 and weighed 115, was helpless against the armed intruder’s pilfered shotgun.

The mourning father said Logan was “begging for her life, begging for her hero, her father, me, that couldn’t be there.”

After investigating Dickey’s prior arrests, the dad said that he can “explain the whole process” of how the justice system failed.

Now, he’s made a solemn promise to make public cries for change for the rest of his life.

“You woke up a beast,” he said.

“And you pissed off the wrong daddy. And I’m going to put it out there, and I’m not going to be quiet.”

Mom Tracy Keck said a common cold is not so simple anymore. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports the last flu season was the most severe in a decade, and health experts say now is the time to protect yourself before cases rise again.

The intensity of the cold and flu season is reported based on influenza-like illness (ILI) outpatient visits, flu-related hospitalizations, and flu-related deaths.

Keck said she and her family take flu prevention seriously after her baby’s hospitalization, she told Salt Lake City, Utah, NBC affiliate KSL-TV.

“That was really a wake-up call of how damaging even a simple virus can be to our most sensitive and vulnerable,” she warns everyday Americans.

Her family takes extra steps to be healthy by making hand-washing fun and receiving annual flu shots.

“They (her kids) like to use way too much soap because it makes bubbles,” Keck said. “But if we can equate fun with protection from viruses and spreading illness, then that’s okay. We’ll buy more soap if we need to.”

“We all understand and talk about how this is a help and a benefit to our lives and to the people around us,” she said.

Her nine-year-old daughter, Prudence, admits the shot is not her favorite.

“It’s a shot and it hurts a lot, but once it’s over, it’s over and you won’t have to feel the pain anymore. And you’re sort of glad that you won’t get sick again,” Prudence told NBC.

BENEFITS OF FLU SHOT

Studies show the influenza vaccine can reduce your risk of illness by up to 60%.

“The vaccine is effective,” said Dr. Tamara Sheffield, medical director at Utah’s Intermountain Health.

“Anyone ages six months and older can get an influenza vaccine and should.”

“Having seen how bad a viral respiratory illness can be, it just really gives me peace of mind to know we have options to protect our kids and protect others,” she added.

People who are immunocompromised, elderly, or with preexisting lung conditions are more at risk of severe illness from something that starts as a cold, as stated by The American Lung Association.

What to know about the flu shot

Who should get the flu shot

  • Adults aged 65 and older
  • Young children, especially those under 5
  • Pregnant women
  • People with chronic health conditions like asthma, heart disease, and diabetes

Potential side effects

  • Soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given
  • Mild headache or muscle aches
  • Low-grade fever
  • Nausea and fatigue

Sheffield explained that viruses mutate so it is important to get the vaccine according to the new strain.

“Every year, those respiratory viruses change, and we need to have a vaccine to protect us that has changed as well,” she said.

WHEN TO GET THE FLU SHOT

The CDC recommends that most people who need a single flu shot get vaccinated in September or October, aiming for everyone to be vaccinated by the end of October.

Some groups, like children ages 6 months to 8 years who need two doses, may get their first dose earlier (such as in July or August), if needed.

Pregnant women, people over 65, and others with higher-risk conditions are advised not to get vaccinated too early (well before September), because the protection from the vaccine may wane over time.

After vaccination, it takes about two weeks for antibodies to develop and for protection to begin.

Even after October, vaccination should continue through the flu season for as long as flu viruses are circulating.

Kelce and the Chiefs are 2-2 as they’ll look for their second straight victory on Monday night.

But the team gave the 10-time Pro Bowler a message the day before the matchup.

It was a kind message as the Chiefs wished Kelce a happy birthday.

The future Hall of Famer Kelce turned 36 years old on Monday.

“Wishing the happiest of birthdays to the human exclamation point,” the Chiefs wrote on social media.

“We hope it’s your best year yet.”

The Chiefs weren’t done with their happy birthday messages to Kelce.

The team also sent Kelce a happy birthday with a touching throwback compilation on Instagram.

The caption read, “36 years of @killatrav,” with a red heart.

Among the pictures were those of a young Travis with his older brother, Jason Kelce, the pair growing up to become Cincinnati Bearcats teammates, and the two becoming NFL stars.

But another Chiefs’ happy birthday message turned the most heads.

The team posted a TikTok video that showed Kelce doing his archer celebration while getting pumped up before a game.

The caption read, “The Archer.”

However, fans had a different song in mind to describe Kelce on his birthday.
