US Open 2025 betting tips, free bets and latest golf odds

It is time to unearth the golfing version of Bear Grylls, as the US Open at Oakmont will surely be a case of survival of the fittest.

The 7,431 yards par 70 near Pittsburgh is not known as The Beast for nothing.

Narrow fairways, five inch deep rough, greens with severe slopes that make you want to tear your hair out, on a course where half the holes figure among the fop 50 hardest on the PGA Tour whenever it hosts a Major.

It demands patience, discipline, accuracy, and an ability to ride with the punches. So step forward Scottie Scheffler – although what is new in that?

The USPGA champion and world No 1 deserves to be a strong favourite.

But 3-1 for a test that will prove a minefield for Scheffler as well as the rest does not represent great value. So let’s try to find that value elsewhere.

US Open betting tips

Bryson DeChambeau is second favourite this week at a best-priced 7-1, and the defending champion makes plenty of appeal.

DeChambeau won the first of his two US Open titles on another course flanked by gouge-it-out rough – at Winged Foot in 2020.

His policy of making sure he is fairly close to the green if he finds the rough stuff could pay dividends again. And the big bomber actually hits it straighter than he did four years ago.

After contending in both the Masters and the USPGA- making it five top six finishes in the last half a dozen Majors – there is no reason to think he will not be in the mix again here.

Jon Rahm’s final placing at the USPGA – a share of 8th – did not reflect how well he played at Quail Hollow, especially in the closing round.

Rahm briefly drew level with Scheffler on the back nine, before the need to keep taking risks finally caught up with him.

The Spaniard was clearly the second best player on view. But he dropped down the field by frittering away a few shots at the end, although he was clearly deflated by then.

There has been plenty of talk that playing on the LIV circuit has blunted Rahm’s competitive edge. But he certainly looked pumped up for the USPGA. At 12-1, he also provides each way security.

**********************************************************

Collin Morikawa continues to be the most frustrating player in the game. It is hard to believe he has held onto the world No 4 spot all year, without winning anything.

His renowned laser-like accuracy should prove a big advantage at Oakmont, so he gets another chance – especially as a few disappointing efforts have seen his odds drift out to 28-1.

One player who cannot be accused of under-achieving is Sepp Straka. He has won twice this year and finished third at the Memorial on his latest start.

Missing the cut at the USPGA was a blip that can be overlooked, and at 40-1 the Austrian is worthy of each way support – along with another in-form player in Ben Griffin.

Griffin followed a top ten at the USPGA by finishing first and second in his two subsequent starts. So a widely-available 66-1 looks more than acceptable.

Harris English played some excellent golf at Quail Hollow to claim a share of second behind Scheffler, and he caught the eye again when finishing 12th at the Memorial. He is another straight-shooter, so he also comes into the equation  at 66-1.

And Davis Riley’s effort in matching English’s finish at the USPGA appears to have been overlooked, probably because he is not the most consistent performer.

But It is not often you see a player who has finished joint runner-up at a Major quoted at 300-1 for the next one. So a small interest could work.

Claudio Ranieri, 73, SNUBS Italy for shock new job with club that just replaced him as manager

CLAUDIO Ranieri plunged Italian FA chiefs into crisis when he rejected the chance to take over the national side.

Former Chelsea and Leicester boss Ranieri, 73, had been lined up to replace Luciano Spalletti, sacked following the Azzurri’s humiliating 3-0 World Cup qualifying defeat by Norway.

Ex-Napoli chief Spalletti stepped down after overseeing the underwhelming win over Moldova, which kept Italy on track for a potential play-off place.

But in a shock U-turn after days of discussions, self-proclaimed “Tinkerman” Ranieri revealed he was turning down the job.

Ranieri left the Roma dug-out last month after the Stadio Olimpico side missed out on a Champions League place on the final weekend of the Serie A season.

It was understood he had been sacked.

Yet Ranieri has opted to STAY with Roma, in a consultancy role for owners the Friedkin family, rather than take charge of the Italy side, informing FA President Gabriele Gravina of his unexpected decision.

Ranieri explained: “I thank President Gravina for the opportunity, a great honour.

“But I reflected and decided to remain at the disposal of Rome in my new role in a total way.

“The Friedkins have given me their full support and backing for any decision I made regarding the national team, but the decision is mine alone.”

Ranieri, who was replaced at the club by former Atalanta chief Gian Piero Gasperini, added that it was HIS decision to end his managerial career.

He said: “I decided to give up, the Friedkins had left me free to choose.

“But I had promised to stop. If I had wanted to continue we would not have taken Gasperini.

“Now I only want to think about Rome.”

Gravina is now starting the search for Spalletti’s replacement all over again.

Spalletti’s predecessor, Roberto Mancini, who quit in August 2023 but lasted just 14 months as Saudi Arabia boss, might be an option despite being recently appointed as technical director at former club Sampdoria.

Gravina may also target former Inter Milan, Lazio and AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli, 59, who was dismissed by the San Siro outfit last summer and is managing Cristiano Ronaldo at Saudi side Al-Nassr.

‘We put our bodies on the line’ – Leading WNBA star slams schedule and rips into ‘not responsible’ commissioner

PHOENIX Mercury star Satou Sabally has hit out at the WNBA schedule in a rant aimed at commissioner Cathy Engelbert.

Following Phoenix’s 77-89 defeat to the Seattle Storm, Sabally questioned the gruelling schedule that players have to endure.

Sabally had been part of a Murcury team that have had to play nine games in 18 days between May 21 to June 7.

Speaking her her post-game press conference, the 27-year-old said: “I think this is a conversation that could also be important for the next CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement).

“Cathy [Englebert] added a lot of games, and [for] us as players, recovery is so important.

“We put our bodies on the line every single time.

“We had nine games in 18 days. That’s not really responsible for a commissioner.”

She added: “I think other teams have had like three back to back [games]. So it’s just a lot of things that we could clean up in terms of scheduling.

“We persevered and we showed that we can do it, but it’s just something that, obviously over the course of a long season, it’s really hard to do.”

Players were handed an even busier schedule this season after the WNBA added an extra four fixtures to the regular-season schedule this year.

That takes each team’s total to 44 games – the maximum amount under the current CBA.

Sabally has avoided injury despite playing in all 10 of the Mercury’s games this season.

While other franchises have had to deal with knocks and blows caused by the busy schedule.

Indiana Fever have had to deal with the loss of star players Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark to injury.

We know Russia is plotting to invade Nato – Ukraine is just the beginning for Putin, says head of Germany’s MI6

VLADIMIR Putin has his evil eyes set on invading Nato with his invasion of Ukraine only just the beginning, Germany’s spy boss has warned.

Bruno Kahl, head of Berlin’s Federal Intelligence Service, says his team have intel that Russia is plotting to test the resolve of the alliance in the coming years.

KYIV, UKRAINE - JUNE 10: Fire and smoke are visible after Russian drone strikes on June 10, 2025 in Kyiv, Ukraine. On the night of June 10, the Russian army attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles and drones. Damage was recorded in seven districts of the city: Obolonskyi, Holosiivskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi, Podilskyi, and Desnianskyi. Illustration of a map showing European nations' preparations for war, including rearmament, conscription plans, and nuclear plans.

A similar concerning message was made by Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte on Monday.

He warned people in Britain “better learn to speak Russian” if Sir Keir Starmer doesn’t increase defence spending immediately.

Rutte also said in a speech in London that Russia could be in a position to attack Nato by 2030.

Europe is continuing to battle with Russia’s increased aggression against Ukraine.

Many Nato nations have imposed sanctions on the Kremlin to try and draw them towards the negotiating table to help end the war.

This pressure has been mainly applied by Starmer, France‘s Emmanuel Macron and US President Donald Trump.

But Putin is yet to stop his nightly attacks.

Russia directly attacked Kyiv with 315 drones and missiles and demolished large parts of the southern port of Odesa overnight.

It is now believed that Vlad fires over 500 drone strikes every night across Ukraine.

And Bruno Kahl fears this is only the start of Putin’s sick plans to take over Europe.

Kahl told Table Media this week: “We are quite certain, and we have intelligence showing it, that Ukraine is only a step on the journey westward.

“That doesn’t mean we expect tank armies to roll westwards but we see that Nato’s collective defence promise is to be tested.”

Kahl believes twisted Russian officials want to see how the US would react to direct confrontations with fellow Nato members.

These would all fall short of full military engagement but would give the Kremlin an insight into where Donald Trump stands.

As part of the US’s pact within Nato they have a mutual obligation alongside all other members to defend each other when under attack.

This ruling comes under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

Kahl says one way this could be done is through Putin’s “little green men” being shipped off to Estonia.

During Russia’s barbaric 2014 annexation of Crimea they took control of dozens of buildings and offices through the use of soldiers in unmarked uniforms and civilian clothes.

Moscow initially denied the men’s identities which meant they became known as “little green men”.

What is Nato?

THE North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is a political and military alliance of countries from North America and Europe.

It was founded in 1949 to counter the Soviet Union with Cold War tensions rising.

Among articles in its found treaty is the principle of collective defence – the idea that an attack on one member is considered an attack on all of them.

Nato takes decisions by consensus but the political and military strength of the United States means that it is by far the most powerful country in the alliance.

Its nuclear arsenal is seen as the ultimate security guarantee.

Nato has 31 members – most of them European nations, plus the United States and Canada.

The newest member is Finland, which joined last April in reaction to Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Sweden applied to join along with Finland but is waiting for Hungary to ratify its application as the final major step before membership.

Kahl’s beliefs have been echoed by the International Institute for Strategic Studies who say Putin may deploy his army onto a “war footing” and try to test Nato by evoking Article 5.

This could see Putin commit to an attack on Nato states in the Baltics.

Poland and the neighbouring states have already been rumoured to be next on the despot’s hit list should he ever get through a brave Kyiv.

And worrying satellite images last month revealed how he is assembling Russian hardware, troops and building bases as little as 35 miles from the border with Finland.

Photos show increased military activity at four locations inside Russia – Kamenka, Petrozavodsk, Severomorsk-2 and Olenya.

Any attack could take place within two years of a ceasefire, IISS warns.

Many of these fears stem from if the US and President Trump decide to withdraw support from Nato – leaving Europe to defend itself.

Chick-fil-A adds popular drink flavor for summer – but there’s another limited edition item you’ll want to try

CHICK-FIL-A has added a popular drink flavour to its menu for summer, and that’s not all.

The fast food chain has also introduced a limited edition item you’re going to want to try for yourself.

Getty

It began on June 9, and the treats have gone nationwide to enjoy the summer season.

Celebrating its 16th year, the Peach Milkshake has returned to menus.

The treat is perfect for the season, topped with peaches, whipped cream and a cherry.

Originally crafted by Chick-fil-A Culinary Lead Angela Canada, it is inspired by her grandmother’s homemade peach ice cream recipe.

Allison Duncan, director of menu and packaging at Chick-fil-A said: “There’s something about the Peach Milkshake that really feels like the start of summer, and for 16 years our Guests have expected–and anticipated – its return.”

Joining the milkshake is a new limited edition item, the Peach Frosted Lemonade.

The refreshing treat combines Chick-fil-A lemonade and Icedream dessert mixed with peaches.

The fresh lemon juice perfectly complements the fruity flavors.

Both the milkshake and the lemonade are available at participating restaurants while supplies last.

SNACK ATTACK

There’s also food options to keep your belly full this summer.

The Chick-fil-A Chick-n-Strips give foodies a freshly breaded outside texture, with a juicy flavor inside.

The strips are designed for you to make them your own, and you can choose from seven sauces to do so.

If you feel like doubling up and finding the perfect flavor combo, you can.

The sauces available include the Chick-fil-A Sauce, Polynesian Sauce, Barbeque Sauce, Honey Mustard Sauce, Zesty Buffalo Sauce, Garden Herb Ranch Sauce and Sweet & Spicy Sriracha Sauce.

Duncan continued: “As we continue to surprise and delight our Guests with new and unique flavors throughout the year, we wanted to offer a spin on the peach taste everyone knows and loves with the Peach Frosted Lemonade.

“So whether it’s a picnic in the park with friends, or a weeknight dinner with family, our Peach treats – paired with crispy Chick-n-Strips – are the perfect duo to share a bite and soak up the flavors of summer.”

PINEAPPLE DRAGONFRUIT

In more good news, the Pineapple Dragonfruit seasonal beverages will be kept around for a few more months.

The Pineapple Dragonfruit won fans over with its tropical flavor, and has done enough to earn a summer spot on the menu.

Initially introduced on the spring menu, the drink’s popularity means it will be sticking around for summer.

Customers will be able to enjoy the drink all summer long until August 16, while supplies last.

ESPN star Lisa Salters dating top WNBA coach as reporter is absent from NBA Finals over ‘personal matter’

BASKETBALL fans have been left stunned after discovering who ESPN reporter Lisa Salters is dating.

Salters, 59, is one of the network’s leading stars and often works the side line on top games.

Salters is in a relationship with Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White[/caption]

She was absent from ESPN’s coverage for Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday.

Salters was due to take up her position on the side line for the Oklahoma City Thunder’s clash with the Indiana Pacers.

“Lisa is attending to a personal matter,” ESPN said in a statement before the game.

“We send her our best.”

Commentator Mike Breen later explained that Salters’ mom was dealing with “serious health issues.”

“We are thinking of our dear friend and colleague, Lisa Salters,” Breen said.

He added, “Although we’ve never met her mom, we owe her a debt of gratitude for giving us the gift of Lisa Salters, who is the teammate everyone in our business should strive to have.”

Fans also sent their best wishes to Salters after hearing the news.

Her absence came as Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White also missed a game due to “personal reasons.”

And basketball followers began connecting the dots.

Salters is in a long-term relationship with the Fever coach.

The pair have four children, three who are White’s biological kids and one who is Salters’ adopted son.

Salters and White share loved-up pictures on social media together.

But some fans have only just begun to realize they are in a relationship.

One said, “Learning Lisa Salters is actually in a relationship to Stephanie White was kinda mind blowing for me.”

Another posted, “Lisa Salters is married to Stephanie White?”

Salters is a side line reporter for NBA as well as NFL games.

She has been part of ESPN’s NBA coverage since 2005 and was named MNF side line reporter in 2012.

It’s not known when exactly her relationship with White began.

But the Fever coach has also found more time in the spotlight recently with the WNBA’s surge in popularity led by Caitlin Clark.
