Shoppers boycotting Walmart & Target for rivals Dollar General and Dollar Tree to snap up $1.25 items as prices surge

SHOPPERS are boycotting Walmart and Target for rivals Dollar General and Dollar Tree as retail prices surge.

Donald Trump‘s tariff policy seems to be driving consumers to dollar stores for cheaper prices, with promising figures pointing to a turn in the retail tide.

Since the President’s tariff policy was first announced, major US retailers have been thrown into confusion and uncertainty.

The US Sun has reported on dramatic price rises to take place at both Walmart and Target, and shoppers are already showing how worried they are.

In May, Target shoppers highlighted the sudden price increase of a USB-C cord from the store’s in-house Heyday brand, per The US Sun.

The product had increased from $8.99 to $17.99, an 80% markup.

The shift was directly blamed on tariffs, with one shopper writing on Reddit: “I’m kinda scared to do back to school shopping in July and August.”

And at Walmart, the price surge of a toy from $20 to $55 from April 19 to May 21 caused similar reactions, as reported by The US Sun.

One person wrote on social media: “This is actually pretty terrifying. I don’t care about toys of course but jfc I can’t imagine what the price of food and necessities are going to be like soon, especially with most of us only making $14 and already struggling like hell.”

And another noted: “What scares me is that Walmart is truly paying more for the products- I am watching our costs rise and products going up to cover us while its kicking everyone’s a**…consumers & companies.

“This will kill all businesses, big and small.”

DOLLAR PRICES

Now, customers are heading to Dollar General and Dollar Tree for the $1.25 items.

Both retailers have revealed a rise in traffic from middle and higher income households in the first quarter of 2025, per the FT.

Dollar Tree saw 2.6 million new customers visiting in the first few months of the year.

The majority of these new customers were from higher income brackets.

Chief executive Mike Creedon said: “We saw a meaningful traffic increase from customers with household incomes of more than $100,000.”

Dollar Tree pricing

Despite the name of the store, Dollar Tree recently added items that cost more than $1 to its inventory.

Most items at the store cost no more than $1.25, but items in the Dollar Tree Plus section cost up to $5.

Dollar Tree introduced Plus aisles to 100 locations in 2019 as part of an effort to diversify its products.

By 2022, Dollar Tree had added the items to over 1,500 locations.

“We believe testing additional price points above $1 for Dollar Tree products will enable us over time to expand our assortments, introduce new products and meet more of our customers’ everyday needs,” president and CEO Michael Witynski said in a statement.

“Our brand promise is that customers get great value for what they spend at Dollar Tree. We will continue to be fiercely protective of that promise, regardless of the price point.”

Todd Vasos, Dollar General chief executive, added: “During our recent customer survey work, 25 per cent of Dollar General customers reported having less income than they did a year ago and nearly 60 per cent of our core customers noted that they felt the need to sacrifice some necessities in the coming year.

“While our core customer remains financially constrained, we have seen increased trade-in activity from both middle- and higher-income customers.”

This points to a worrying trend for retailers like Walmart and Target.

Walmart has admitted that tariffs are forcing them to raise prices.

However, the retailer has reaffirmed that sales have grown across all its income cohorts in the US for the first quarter.

In terms of Target, it has reported a drop in same-store sales, citing in part to waning customer sentiment and tariff concern.

Interestingly, Target‘s customers do have higher average incomes than Walmart or the dollar stores.

Meanwhile, Dollar Tree consumers are 9% more likely to have low incomes than all US consumers.

Dollar General’s shoppers are 14% more likely to have low incomes.

GMA star Michael Strahan interviewed the longtime ESPN anchor Harris, who revealed that he was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer.

The 60-year-old Harris said that he will be undergoing surgery next week and will need some time away from his SportsCenter duties before returning.

“I’m having surgery on Tuesday,” Harris said.

“I’ll be away from SportsCenter for about a month to recover.

“Then I’m coming back better than ever.”

Harris also shared that the doctors were “optimistic” over the prognosis and that the last prostate scan showed that nothing had spread.

Strahan noted that prostate cancer is more common in men of African descent, as Harris then said that “we censor ourselves by not talking” about the brutal disease.

Harris then revealed that his dad had prostate cancer and that he recently found out that other family members also had the disease.

Fans reacted to Harris’s cancer diagnosis and wished the SportsCenter star the best on social media.

“All the best to you Jay,” one wrote.

“Wishing him a smooth recovery,” another commented.

“Prayers up Jay! You got this,” a third said.

“Wishing you a smooth surgery and a strong recovery, bruda! Respect for sharing it publicly — more men need to get screened,” a fourth stated.

Hard-partying dropout overtakes Taylor Swift to become youngest self-made female billionaire…& she has an odd food habit

TAYLOR Swift has been kicked off the throne as the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire – by a party-loving college dropout with a bizarre eating habit.

Self-proclaimed workaholic Lucy Guo has overtaken pop sensation Swift – with her new title potentially sparking Bad Blood between the two.

Guo earned her riches through a huge windfall from the artificial intelligence boom.

She has an eye-watering net worth – valued at $1.3billion according to Forbes‘ list of America’s Richest Self-Made Women.

The savvy entrepreneur officially took Swift’s crown as world’s youngest self-made woman billionaire in April.

It came after reports claimed that Scale AI – the tech company she co-founded with Alexandr Wang in 2016 – was valued at $25billion.

She was just 21 when she started the firm with Wang, who was even younger, aged 19.

The multibillion-dollar valuation came as part of a deal which is set to close by June 1, according to The New York Post.

The daughter of Chinese immigrants, Guo was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The young genius quickly picked up coding in middle school – but dropped out of Carnegie Mellon University when she won a $100,000 entrepreneurial scholarship, paid for by billionaire investor Peter Thiel.

In 2015 she started work at Quora, where she met Wang.

She later worked for Snapchat for a short period, as the company’s first female designer.

After founding Scale AI, Guo ran their operations and production design teams.

But this only went on until Wang, the chief executive, reportedly fired her after the two fought over disagreements on how the company should be run.

Guo told The Information: “We had a difference of opinion but I am proud of what Scale AI has accomplished.”

The new youngest richest self-made billionaire kept her 5 per cent stake in Scale AI – a cut which is now worth approximately $1.2billion, according to Forbes.

The firm labels data used by tech giants like OpenAI and Alphabet in order to train chatbots.

The extraordinary billionaire now owns “a swanky apartment in Miami” and a house in Los Angeles.

But she has admitted to having an odd food habit.

The 30-year-old admitted that she buys groceries or cooks.

Instead, she exclusively orders all of her meals from delivery giant Uber Eats.

She has boasted always working at least eight hours a day when on holiday, and said that she takes two Barry’s bootcamp fitness classes per day.

But she reportedly maintains a work hard, play hard mentality by frequently attending raves and parties.

She told The New York Post in 2022: “A lot of people don’t like me because, honestly, I seem like an a–hole online.

“I would not like me on the internet.”

She added: “But I’ve made a lot of friends because I think people appreciate my savage personality.”

She is also reported to own a huge collection of Pokemon merchandise, which includes slippers, stuffed animals, artwork and a Swarovski-crystal necklace.

The billionaire now runs Passes, a content creation platform that has been monikered the “family-friendly version of OnlyFans“.

The firm claims to be able to “make millionaires” – by allowing creators to hold onto 90 per cent of their earnings.

Passes gained $40million last year in a Series A funding round according to Fortune.

The company are, however, now facing allegations that the platform allowed child pornography to spread, as part of a class action suit filed in February.

Inbetween founding Scale AI and Passes, Guo also started a small investment firm called Backend Capital.

On Forbes’ list of America’s Richest Self-Made Women, Guo came in at number 26, while Swift earned the 21st spot.

But pop icon Swift still holds the title for world’s richest female musician – with a net worth of $1.6billion.

Veteran radio host Michelle Beadle launches astonishing live on-air rant after SiriusXM job is taken by Stephen A. Smith

RADIO host Michelle Beadle has produced an extraordinary rant after Stephen A. Smith replaced her on SiriusXM.

The 49-year-old and co-host Cody Decker already knew they were on their way out of the station.

The ESPN analyst will be presenting two shows on the station[/caption]

But Beadle and Decker were unaware they would be replaced by ESPN’s $100million man Smith.

Stephen A. is set to present two shows on SiriusXM alongside his lucrative new deal with the sports network.

And Beadle was not impressed, demanding she be “treated with respect”.

“Yeah so the cat’s out of the bag, I guess we’re talking about it,” Beadle said on Wednesday’s Beadle & Decker.

“We weren’t supposed to, just as a heads up. We were only given a few hours’ notice, but we weren’t told any details, we were promised that no details would be released.

“We didn’t even know who was taking our place in the lineup, just that it was going to be announced that a new show was being added.

“Unbeknownst to us, The Hollywood Reporter of course, had all the details.

“So it was a little embarrassing, I’m not going to lie.

“I’ve been in this business for 20-plus years, I’ve been treated poorly a couple times, this didn’t feel good, I’m not gonna lie.”

Beadle – who formerly worked alongside Stephen A. at ESPN – admitted she had been “blind-sided” by the move.

She continued: “The Hollywood Reporter comes out – and there’s [Smith’s] face.

“I was like, I should have known. That was just kind of gross. I don’t care that we’re being replaced or what have you.

“It happens all the time. But a little respect would have been nice.

“Good Lord. I was totally blindsided. Just really embarrassed, to be honest.”

Stephen A. will link up with First Take analyst Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo on the station.

He will begin presenting on SiriusXM in the autumn.

Smith said: “September can’t come soon enough.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve been in radio… especially going back and forth with the callers.

“Can’t wait to get re-started. Buckle up! I’m coming!”

Eerie new video of dad Travis Decker who ‘murdered 3 daughters’ as cops fear ‘expert’ soldier won’t be caught for MONTHS

THE man accused of killing his three young daughters has been seen in chilling surveillance footage as cops ramp up the manhunt for the veteran.

Travis Decker, 32, is seen breathing quickly and leaning into the camera in an eerie video captured in the days before he allegedly murdered the siblings during a custody visit.

Cops released the footage, along with new pictures of Decker, on Wednesday in hopes that someone in the public might recognize the fugitive as the hunt for him enters day five.

They noted that the video was before the alleged killings, but that the footage serves as the most recent images of Decker, who is wanted on three counts of murder and kidnapping.

The search for Decker was launched after Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5, were found dead at a campground in Washington state on Monday.

They were found wearing the clothes they were last seen in when their dad picked them up for what was supposed to be a three-hour custody visit on Friday, but their mom reported them missing when Decker didn’t return them in time.

Cops said the Decker sisters likely died of asphyxiation. They were found with plastic bags over their heads and zip-ties around their wrists, police records said.

Decker’s truck, which he had been living out of, was found nearby with his wallet inside and two bloody adult-sized handprints on the tailgate.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison said they’re doubling down on the search for Decker in mountains west of the campground on Thursday.

Decker, a former military member, has extensive training and experience surviving for months in the outdoors.

He’s capable of spending days or weeks outside on his own with little equipment, Decker’s dad told investigators.

In addition to serving in the US Army for years, Decker went to mountain survival school.

“It sounds like at times he would go out and would be leaving off grid for sometimes up to two and a half months,” Morrison said.

“So we understand that that’s a possibility, that he could have scoped out this area before, put some supplies out there, and has the ability and the knowledge to survive for a long period of time.”

Cops are asking the public to report any sightings of Decker, but to avoid contact with him if he’s seen, as he’s believed to be mentally unstable.

Morrison shot down recent claims that Decker had been seen in McCall, Idaho, over 400 miles away from the campground in Leavenworth, Washington.

“Dispatch should only be notified of first-person sightings, not rumors, texts, or online chatter,” the McCall Police Department said in a statement.

It’s unclear if Decker is armed, but he has years of experience handling weapons as a former military member.

Decker first enlisted in the Army in 2013.
