SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — This year marks ten years for the Toy Lending Library of South Dakota, a non-profit that lets families borrow toy boxes for free.
The organization celebrated the milestone at Sertoma Park in Sioux Falls Sunday.
It was a day full of fun, toys and superheroes.
“Having this opportunity to celebrate our volunteers, our donors, our families with us, it’s amazing,” Toy Lending Library executive director Anelis Coscioni said.
“I wanted to come and enjoy the event with the kids,” Janel Gladson said.
Gladson has used the Toy Lending Library and appreciates its mission.
“It’s not just a toy; it’s an actual learning set, and I think that’s important for kids to learn,” Gladson said.
So one might call play a super power.
“Children, when they are playing, they are learning so much and all the skills they need before they start going to school. Anytime they’re having fun, they are learning, and that is so important,” Coscioni said.
One thing the Toy Lending Library has contributed to its success over the past ten years is the community.
“I can’t say enough about the volunteers, the people, my team, my board, that support in getting here, and I know they will continue with us even more,” Coscioni said.
Since its start, the Toy Lending Library has expanded to 21 locations, but the organization would like to see that progress continue.
“I hope we grow. I hope we can support children and learning through play all over our state,” Coscioni said.
