CHICK-FIL-A fans have slammed the chain over a “gross” change that bans a common item under a new law.
If customers do not get in line with the new legislation from July 1, they will face $50 fines in one specific US state.

Starting next month, those in Virginia will no longer be able to use containers made from expanded polystyrene, commonly known as Styrofoam.
This includes things like cups, plates, trays and bowls made from Styrofoam.
It comes as the state makes the effort to reduce litter and protect waterways which are often clogged up by thrown away materials.
Styrofoam is difficult to recycle and also hazardous to wildlife, while also taking over 500 years to decompose in landfills.
Wildlife often mistake it for food, risking ingestion of toxic materials that can block digestion and transfer harmful chemicals.
The ban specifically applies to food vendors with 20 or more locations in Virginia, it is important to note.
National chains and franchises operating in Virginia must also comply with the new rule.
A year later, on July 1, 2026, the ban will go statewide and stand for all other food vendors in Virginia.
There are a limited number of ways to get around the ban, notably by applying for a one-year local government execption.
To have this approved,a vendor must show that this ban creates “undue economic hardship” on the business in question.
Extensions might be granted if the hardship continues.
As far as safe alternatives go, chains and vendors are advised to switch to things like reusable containers or recyclable plastics.
FAN FURY
But this new law isn’t being taken well by certain fast food fans, specially those at Chick-fil-A.
Given that Chick-fil-A is a national chain, it will be forced to comply with the Virginia ruling.
On the social media platform Reddit, one person titled a thread: “I’m fine with the fries change, but taking away the Styrofoam cup? This feels gross.”
In the comments, a similar anger was felt.
One person wrote: “I understand if it’s better for the environment.
“I just reeaaallly wish we could find a similar alternative, because Styrofoam really does keep that ice from melting nearly as fast.”
And another added: “Styrofoam is a much better material for cups.
“It’s insulated so your hand doesn’t get cold and wet while holding it.”
But there was also notable support for the environmentally-positive change.
A Reddit user agreed with the Styrofoam ban: “Honestly, this is one hill I really don’t care to die on.
“If it bothers you so much, you can always keep a Yeti mug in your car and transfer your drink to that.”
While another noted: “Styrofoam isn’t biodegradable, so the cups from Chick-fil-A you got as a kid, well, they’re still sitting there!
“Not going anywhere, just piling up more and more.”
