AN enraged man accused of setting a Virginia councilman on fire allegedly committed the malicious act after learning the lawmaker was having an affair with his wife, according to investigators.
Shotsie Michael Buck-Hayes allegedly told Danville police officers that he “intended to kill” Lee Vogler when he forced his way into the legislator’s office on July 30 while hauling a 5-gallon container of gasoline.

Steven Seiple, one of Vogler’s co-workers, testified in court on Tuesday about the moment he witnessed Buck-Hayes, 29, douse the lawmaker in gasoline.
Vogler, 38, desperately tried to escape the crazed attacker, pleading with Seiple to call 911 as he ran outside the Showcase Magazine building, where his office is located, the colleague said.
However, as Vogler attempted to flee, Buck-Hayes managed to set him on fire.
Seiple testified about the graphic injuries the lawmaker immediately suffered, telling a courtroom in Danville that he noticed Vogler’s shirt was “thoroughly burned and his chest pink from burns.”
