SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools is planning on closing Christ the King Elementary at the end of the year.
Due to rising costs and stagnant enrollment, the difficult decision was made, according to Kyle Groos, president of the schools, in a message that was sent out to parents Monday night.
Current students at Christ the King Elementary will be absorbed into the five remaining elementary schools, which include St. Mary, St. Michael, St. Katherine Drexel, St. Lambert, and Holy Spirit.
An online petition has been created asking leadership to have an open meeting to provide information and address concerns, such as ensuring students will be placed in schools closest to their homes and where money from recent fundraisers will go.
