CHRISTIAN McCaffrey has received eye-opening punishment from the NFL for an attempted tackle in a controversial ruling decision.
The San Francisco 49ers’ star running back’s punishment came from a play during his team’s Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Over the weekend, McCaffrey was fined $23,186 for the use of his helmet during his attempted tackle of Jaguars’ Devin Lloyd.
The three-time First-Team All-Pro wasn’t able to tackle Lloyd after a Brock Purdy interception.
McCaffrey launched his helmet before making contact with Lloyd, who recorded two interceptions in Jacksonville’s 26-21 win.
During the play, McCaffrey, who was an offensive player, became a defender after the change of possession, which led to his fine.
The NFL treated the 29-year-old as a defensive player who, according to the league, used his helmet in an appropriate manner.
McCaffrey didn’t receive a penalty on the field, but Roger Goodell’s NFL made sure to fine him.
NFL fans weren’t in agreement with the fine decision on social media.
“So he got fined for making a tackle? Got it,” one wrote.
“The NFLPA needs to step in. This is over the top and needs to stop,” another commented.
“Ridiculous! Let’s just become a flag football league,” a third said.
“They’re going too far now,” a fourth added.
“That’s total bull****,” a fifth stated.
McCaffrey tied with Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu for the largest fine given in Week 4.
Luvu was also fined $23,186 for his hip-drop tackle in the Commanders’ 34-27 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

McCaffrey helped his 49ers rebound in Week 5 with a 26-23 overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday Night Football.
He posted 57 rushing yards and 82 receiving yards in the contest.
The tailback also posted a touchdown on eight catches.
San Francisco is first in the NFC West with a 4-1 lead as they’ll travel to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6.
