The massacre occurred at the Annunciation Catholic Church and School in south Minneapolis Wednesday morning.
Two children, aged 8 and 10, were killed while 17 others were wounded.
All injured victims, including 14 children and three elderly parishioners, are expected to survive.
Westman, previously known as Robert, legally changed the name in 2020 to reflect identifying as a woman, court records show.
In the manifesto, Westman questioned that choice.
What we know about the Minneapolis shooting…
- Two children, ages 8 and 10, were killed while praying in pews
- 17 others were injured, including 14 children, and a local hospital is currently treating nine pediatric patients
- The suspect has been identified as Robin Westman, a 23-year-old man whose mother worked at the school until 2021, who died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot
- Westman uploaded a sick video manically laughing minutes before the shooting showing off disturbing messages written across multiple guns, including a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol with several magazines
- Sobbing children were evacuated from the church to reunite with their worried parents, with one boy overheard telling his dad, “I don’t feel safe”
- Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said he was briefed and is “praying for our kids and teachers”
- President Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation and ordered flags at half-staff to mourn the victims
“I only keep [the long hair] because it is pretty much my last shred of being trans. I am tired of being trans, I wish I never brain-washed myself,” the killer wrote.
Cutting the hair was described as an “embarrassing defeat” and a “concerning change of character that could get me reported.”
The notes also revealed conflicted feelings about gender.
“I don’t want to dress girly all the time but I guess sometimes I really like it. I know I am not a woman but I definitely don’t feel like a man,” Westman wrote.
Regrets over the body and limits of medical technology were also shared.
“I regret being trans..I wish I was a girl, I just know I cannot achieve that body with the technology we have today. I also can’t afford that,” Westman added.
Manifesto entries referenced other mass shootings, including Sandy Hook, and included violent thoughts about children.
