SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation wants help designing a new park in the northeastern part of town.
The land is just east of North Dubuque avenue.
Eric Grootenboer and his family enjoy spending time outdoors.
“We like to walk and we like to get out and about, try finding new parks and get the kids out,” Grootenboer said.
In just a few years, there could be a new park to enjoy in his neighborhood. The city is working on turning about four acres of land into a park.
“We acquired this property a few years back, knowing the area would develop with single family, multi-family residential, and we try and incorporate a neighborhood park into a half-mile of all rooftops in Sioux Falls,” Park Development Manager Mike Patten said.
A survey is out now asking people what they would like to see in this park. The questions include what kind of amenities would they like and what time of day would they use the park.
“What I would really do is encourage anyone who lives in this area or thinks this would be a nice park location for them, to go to that survey, give us your feedback because ultimately community feedback is the benchmark for design of parks,” Patten said.
Ultimately, the city council will need to sign off on the project.
Construction could start in 2027.
