Clark Hunt makes ‘urgency’ appeal to Kansas City Chiefs over Arrowhead or new $3 billion stadium decision

THE Kansas City Chiefs are working hard to secure their next stadium deal.

Whether its in Missouri or in Kansas, the Chiefs plan on getting a deal done soon.

The Chiefs currently play in Kansas City, Missouri, but they are willing to move to Kansas if they feel it’s necessary.

On Monday, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt met with reporters to discuss his progress in making a decision.

“We’re grateful to have two really good options,” Hunt said.

“I don’t want to get into how close we are making a decision because I found over time with a stadium situations that until they’re done, they’re not done.

“There’s a lot of work, a lot of moving parts, and we’re working through those.

“Certainly, I would say we feel urgency to bringing the process to a conclusion, but that doesn’t mean I can will it to happen in any specified period of time.”

It would be cheaper to renovate Arrowhead Stadium instead of building a new venue in Kansas.

However, Clark made a point to say that money isn’t a factor in his decision.

“We’re more focused on getting it right, picking the option that’s best for our fans, and one that’s best for the community and best for the organization for the next several decades,” he said.

Arrowhead opened in 1972 is the third-oldest stadium in the NFL right now.

Only the historic venues of Soldier Field in Chicago (1924) and Lambeau Field in Green Bay (1957) opened before it.

Arrowhead has never hosted a Super Bowl, and due to its age and location it likely isn’t a candidate in the future.

Despite a relatively large capacity of 76,000 seats, Kansas City is cold in February and the NFL likes warm conditions for the Super Bowl.

Every game since 2019 has been held in warm climates, with Louisiana, Nevada, Arizona, California, Florida, and Georgia hosting the last seven Super Bowls.

Of those seven games, five were held in a domed stadium.

NFL important dates 2025 season

March 12 – Free Agency begins

April 24-26 – NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin

September 4 – 2025 season opener (TBC vs Eagles)

November 27 – Thanksgiving Day triple header

January 4, 2026 – End of regular-season

February 8, 2026 – Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California

If the Chiefs opted to build a new stadium instead of renovating Arrowhead, it likely would have a dome, eliminating the weather factor.

That would both make it easier for the Chiefs to play in the winter and would make the stadium a favorable location for a Super Bowl.

A decision has to come soon for the Chiefs, as the team’s lease at Arrowhead Stadium ends after the 2030 season.

If they plan to build a new stadium, it will have to be completed by the start of the 2031 season.
