Cleveland Browns make official quarterback signing following Shedeur Sanders cut fears

THE Cleveland Browns have made a quarterback signing as worries continue over the rookie Shedeur Sanders’ future with the team.

The Browns have given a contract to a youngster as OTAs (Organized Team Activities) are underway.

The Browns stunned fans with their selection of Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

The selection was a surprise since the franchise had already picked Dillon Gabriel with the No. 94 overall pick in the third round.

On Wednesday, the Browns decided to come to an agreement with Gabriel on a four-year rookie contract.

Sanders had signed his own deal last month.

It has yet to be revealed how much Gabrie’s contract is worth.

Sanders’ contract was reportedly worth $4.6 million, including a $447,000 signing bonus.

It was a massive drop from what he could’ve made if the Colorado Buffaloes product was drafted in the first round, as he was expected.

Sanders and Gabriel will be competing in a crowded quarterback room in Cleveland.

The Browns’ roster has three other signal-callers in Deshaun Watson, who’s likely out for the 2025 season due to an injury, Joe Flacco, and Kenny Pickett.

So it’ll be a four-quarterback competition as it’s likely that either Flacco or Pickett will start Week 1.

However, recent reports suggest that Sanders has an advantage over fellow rookie Gabriel to earn a roster spot.

The Athletic’s Zac Jackson said on the the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show that Sanders has been impressive in OTAs.

“I watch [Sanders]. He is talented. I hear things, he’s handling things well. We’ll see… He’s gonna have to win every single day in the meetings in the asking questions, in the practices, just to earn more chances, “Jackson said.

Jackson didn’t hand the same praise for Gabriel as he referred to him as “the other guy.”

“I don’t see the other guy impressing at all and I’m not trying to be personal with him,” he said.

“He does not look like an NFL quarterback and 31 other draft rooms didn’t think he was a second-day pick.

“So he’s gonna have to earn those too.”

The report came after NFL reporter James Palmer said that it isn’t a lock that Sanders will make the roster this summer.

OTAs for the Browns will end on Thursday.
