College football star, 18, killed in mass shooting at apartment complex just weeks before debut season

COLLEGE football player Mycheal Edwards-Wallace was tragically killed over the weekend.

Edwards-Wallace was set to enter his freshman season at Division II Newberry College.

The 18-year-old was just two months away from his first college game[/caption]

Edwards-Wallace was one of four victims of a shooting in Kingstree, South Carolina.

One other person was killed in the shooting, with two more suffering injuries.

No arrests had been made as of Sunday night, per Live 5 News WCSC.

“Our hearts go out to his family,” Newberry head coach Todd Knight said in a statement.

“It’s such a tragedy for a talented young man to be struck down at a young age.

“He was a good student and a great young man with a terrific personality and a bright future.

“We were really excited to have him as part of our team.

“He will always be part of our Newberry family.”

Edwards-Wallace was an all-state, all-area, and all-region selection while playing both offensive and defensive line.

He was also named Kingstree High School Male Athlete of the Year and played in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.


“Newberry College is mourning the loss of incoming football student-athlete Mycheal Edwards-Wallace,” the college said in a statement.

“The entire Newberry College community extends its deepest condolences to Mycheal’s family, friends, and teammates.

“We are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”

Edwards-Wallace’ death came just two months before the start of Newberry’s season against UVA Wise on September 6.

College football fans were devastated by the news and shared their condolences on social media.

“Prayers and thoughts of peace to Mycheal’s family and the Newberry community,” one fan said.

“So sorry for your loss many prayers for the family,” another fan said.

“Sending prayers and our condolences,” a third fan said.

“Praying for his family,” a fourth fan said.
