A POLICE sergeant has died after being hit by traffic on a busy freeway, sparking a complete shutdown of all southbound lanes.
The heartbreaking accident occurred early Monday morning when Los Angeles police officer Shiou Deng exited his patrol vehicle on Interstate 405 in Brentwood after noticing a multi-vehicle crash.

Deng, a 26-year veteran on the force, was walking over to the scene of the two-car crash to provide emergency assistance when he was struck by traffic, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said.
