“I had to Google it,” wrote a longtime fan of the warehouse retailer in a thread on Reddit this month.

“Probably I’m one of the few that didn’t know about it, but I went to pick up my parents medicine. The pharmacist [asked] me why I’m paying full price.”

“They have insurance, told me to get the manufacturers coupon, blew my mind when I came back with the coupon and saw a 90% savings,” they added.

Another member also cited a serious deal when they went into their local warehouse for medication.

“Absolutely! Epi pen went from $200 at other pharmacy with insurance to $20 at Costco as a member,” they replied.

Others said they were even able to get discounts on medication for their pets through a “secret code” from GoodRx, lowering prices from $125 to just $45.

GoodRx is a healthcare company that tracks prescription prices and offers coupons to those who sign up for free, but there’s also a paid membership program option.

Its unclear if the Costco shopper who saved 90% also used a GoodRx code, but the warehouse retailer notably offers the Costco Member Prescription Program (CMPP).

DEALS FOR DAYS

They could’ve signed up for the CMPP, which provides discounts that Costco already negotiated from manufacturers, eliminating the need for coupons altogether.

Those members who have CMPP also get a discount card that provides savings on prescriptions at Costco and other pharmacies that accept it.

Costco cited on its website that some members save around 20% to 30%, but sometimes discounts can be as high as 80% or more.

Other discount cards like those from WellRx can be used at the warehouse retailer for savings of around 80% as well.

GoodRx coupons are also accepted.

In general though, Costco doesn’t accept direct manufacturer coupons, as it already negotiates lower prices for medication.

Several other members were also completely unaware of the variety of options for discounts on medication at the warehouse retailer.

“What?!?! My mind is blown,” a shopper wrote in the thread.

“Wow, that is great to know!” another exclaimed.

ACCES GRANTED

It’s also important to note that even consumers without a Costco membership can still get prescriptions from its pharmacy.

Most states have a law that requires pharmacies to be open to all members of the public, which would include membership-based stores.

The loophole only requires a shopper to inform staff at the entrance that they are there for the pharmacy, skipping the need to scan a membership card.

Non-members can also buy prescriptions through Costco’s website and have access to pharmacy services like vaccinations, eye exams, and hearing exams.

The only thing that’s barred from non-members is over-the-counter medication, as it doesn’t apply to the law.

Costco is also opening at least seven new stores soon.

It even recently caught backlash for what some members dubbed a “stupid food court change.”
