Costco shoppers divided after fan ‘cracks the code’ on common lunch staple – some say the simple trick ‘felt so wrong’

COSTCO has left shoppers divided after a fan cracked ”the code” on a beloved lunch staple.

Sometimes when the mornings are busy or you’re craving something more hearty nothing hits the spot quite like a bagel.

But as much as Americans love this breakfast and brunch staple, the bread favorite is also notoriously difficult to open – at least, according to furious Costco shoppers.

The mega supermarket has sparked fury amongst bargain-mad customers who’ve allegedly found it a challenge to crack open the bagel packaging.

One of them recently took to Reddit to seek help after they struggled to open the plastic bag.

”Anyone cracked the code on opening the bagels?” the person wondered in the post.

”Cause ‘twist pull’ before my coffee goes not compute,” they moaned in the caption.

Luckily for the shopper – who was possibly left hungry after the bagel fiasco – more than 150 people flooded to rescue, each sharing their go-to method.

One advised: ”You take one of each side of the closure tape in your fingers and pull them apart.”

Another chuckled: ”Twist 1/2 turn and pull apart works 80% of the time for me, if that doesn’t work, I use my Stihl 36″ MS 881 chain saw to remove it.”

Someone else commented: ”The bagels are closed with a piece of tape. The ends of the tape are stuck to a thin piece of paper.

”You rip the paper in half which gives you both ends of the tape that if you pull to separate the tape, liberating the bagels.”

There was another solution – and it’s so straightforward and foolproof, many will wonder why they hadn’t thought of it earlier.

”Scissors. Snip!”

A fellow Redditor shared: First time I did this it felt so wrong until I realized that once you take out one bagel, you have enough plastic left to close it with a twist tie.

”Then I felt cheated for the number of times I had fiddled with that closure tape.”

New store policy at Costco

The retailer’s members have lashed out at the chain over a new store policy starting on June 30.

Taking to social media, some shoppers who pay a membership fee to visit the wholesale retailer, have criticised the move that segregates members from each other.

Costco membership sharing guidelines

Costco has strict rules for membership use that shoppers must follow and they’ve been cracking down on offenders in recent years.

  • Primary Member Use: Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. Sharing it for purchases is not allowed as the photo on the card must match the person using it.
  • Household Card: Each primary member can add one free household cardholder who lives at the same address. This person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
  • Guest Policy: Members can bring up to two guests per visit to Costco. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by the member.
  • Authorized Cardholder: For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who doesn’t reside at your address. They will receive their own card and can shop independently.

All 628 warehouses will be undergoing an opening hours change from Monday onwards that will see executive members, those who pay the highest fees, given early entry.

Stores will open at 9 am Monday to Sunday for Executive members only.

Gold Star and Business Members will have to wait until 10 am unless its Saturday then they can shop from 9:30 onwards.

Those who pay $65 a year for Gold or Business memberships have hit out at the policy.

Some have even threatened to move to rival Sam’s Club.

“WTF is the point for business members pass then?” one wrote on Facebook.

“Now they want to start ripping people off too watch! I’m going to Sam’s club.”

“This is a poor decision,” another added.
