Costco slammed for ‘stupid food court change’ – and it’s ‘even worse’ than they first thought

FURIOUS Costco shoppers have slammed the retail giant after a “stupid” food court change which they say is inefficient and wastes time.

The controversial update to the system has left diners confused and outraged at the lack of clarity – with some left waiting at least 10 minutes for just one hot dog.

Shoppers poured out on social media to express their anger at the new change, which some said was “even worse” than they first believed.

One shopper explained the new system, saying that the retailer had stopped calling out order numbers.

The fuming user said: “My local Costco recently stopped calling out order numbers.

“So last time I was there a whole bunch of people were just standing around waiting for the number to be called.”

The shopper continued: “Eventually somebody saw this tiny sign that said that they’re not calling out numbers anymore and so people formed a rough line which then grew quickly as they very slowly got out one order at a time.

“It was not great and not efficient.

On X, another user pointed out how ridiculous it was that shoppers had to wait in line before staff started preparing their orders.

The user said: “This new scheme of waiting in line before anyone starts to make your order is slow and stupid.

“Change it back. I had to wait in line 10 minutes for a hot dog and a coke.”

Meanwhile, other users on Reddit continued to voice their frustration at the inefficient system.

One user confirmed the fact that employees were waiting to see customers with a receipt first before preparing food.

They said: “Oh you don’t understand, it’s not that they were preparing orders and not calling out the number.

“They wouldn’t start preparing the order until somebody walked up and showed them their receipt with their number after waiting in line.”

Another replied to the fact saying: “Wow, that’s even worse!”

One shopper chimed in with their experience and explained why sites had been carrying out this new system.

They said: “Costcos near me (Denver) have been doing this recently as well.

“When I asked they told me it was because people were walking up and stealing other peoples’ food.”

The shopper who said the rule was even worse than they initially thought replied: “This response makes me crazy.

“Because almost every time I go into Costco, I order food on the way out… and I can count on both hands the number of times a person behind the counter accepted my receipt (or even glanced at it when I tried to show it to them).”

They added: “This is on THEM, not us… so the solution shouldn’t be to make life harder for customers!”

It comes after Costco came under fire over one of its policies which has proved controversial and continues to divide shoppers.

The retailer has attracted a barrage of criticism over the measure, which has seen some members forced to prove their identity more than once.

Last year, Costco bosses changed its entry policy by requiring shoppers to scan their membership card under a machine.

This is different from just showing the card to a staffer stationed by the door.
