Millions of members pour into Costco warehouses across the U.S. each day, with the thrill of the hunt being a major appeal of the chain’s shopping experience.
One of the most exciting finds at Costco is a “manager’s special,” with these discounts often representing some of the best deals in the warehouse.
A Costco member stumbled upon a manager’s special at their local warehouse, spotting a Weber Genesis II S435 Gas Grill marked down by 50%.
“Gotta love the manager specials,” wrote the shopper on Reddit, paired with an image of the the grill and its tag alerting customers of the manager’s special.
The tag featured a slash written in marker through the $1,199.99 price, with the new $600 price handwritten as well as the manager’s initials.
A signature or initialing confirms that the price change is official and has been approved by a manager, ensuring that the discounted price will be honored at the register.

Fellow Costco members were envious of the bargain find, calling the special discount a “hell of a deal.”
“$600 for a Weber? That’s a steal!” said another, as others shared that they would purchase the discounted grill even though they didn’t need one or already had one.
“That’s a fantastic deal on a fantastic Weber grill!” commented a third Redditor.
Others joked that they wanted the store manager at their Costco warehouse so they could have similar discounts.
SAVVY SAVINGS
A manager’s special at Costco occurs when a store manager marks down an item significantly in hopes that it will sell quickly and free up shelf space.
There are several reasons that an item may receive the special pricing, such as that the product was purchased and then returned.
A manager may also mark a product for sale if it was a floor model that is no longer needed.
Products that are slightly damaged but otherwise perfectly usable can likewise be marked as a manager’s special.

Costco managers may also discount items if there is low inventory and the manager wants to clear it out to make room for new stock.
These special deals are typically found on price tags ending in .00 or .88, according to reports from Costco employees and shoppers online.
These deals are specific to each warehouse and are not part of the regular, store-wide promotions, so a manager’s special at one location may not be available at another.
If you see a product with a handwritten price and a manager’s initials, be sure to act fast, as these items are typically very limited in supply and will not be restocked.
Keep your eyes out for other tag markings that offer insight into a product.
