BRIAN Schottenheimer has given a brutally honest assessment of his Dallas Cowboys team’s struggling defense.
The new Cowboys head coach, 51, has overseen a 1-2 start to the new NFL season.

Dallas began with a 24-20 loss at the reigning champion Philadelphia Eagles.
And last weekend they fell 31-14 to the Chicago Bears.
Even in their week two victory over the New York Giants they coughed up 37 points.
The Cowboys possess the worst turnover margin in the entire NFL through three weeks, with the number standing at minus five.
Schottenheimer, who was previously Dallas’ offensive coordinator prior to landing the head coach gig, pulled no punches when presented with that stat.
“That sucks,” he admitted. “But they come in bunches.
“I believe that. We got guys punching at the ball.
“What helps with that is when you do disrupt or affect the passer, errant throws happen.
“That’s what I’m saying, it all ties together… To be minus five, I promise you this, we will not end the season like that.”
Dallas was previously a strong team when it came to forcing turnovers under previous defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
Last year Quinn landed the Washington Commanders head coach gig, leaving a vacancy in Dallas.
The Cowboys went on to bring Matt Eberflus back to the franchise.
Eberflus, 55, previously worked as Dallas’ defensive coordinator between 2011 and 2017.
He then spent three years as Chicago Bears head coach, but was fired last November.
Eberflus achieved a 14-32 record with the Bears.

The Cowboys’ defense is set to be bolstered by the returns of two key men in the coming weeks.
Daron Bland has missed the last two games with a foot injury, but could make his comeback this weekend.
The cornerback previously led the league in interceptions.
Jadeveon Clowney, meanwhile, is also ramping up towards a return, but will not play this weekend.
The Cowboys will host the Green Bay Packers this Sunday.
