SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — More than a week after a crane truck working on the Fort Randall Dam tipped over atop the dam, that crane is still in place, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
The crane was in place to move components during an ongoing project. According to the USACE the tipped crane happened at 2 p.m. July 21 on the bridge deck of the dam’s intake structure.
The cause of the tip is still under investigation.
On Wednesday, KELOLAND News reached out the USACE for an update on the incident, and received the following statement.
The Fort Randall Project is currently working with the contractor and other professionals to determine the best process for removing the crane. Removal of the crane is expected to take some time to ensure it is safely removed without causing damage to the structure.
