Dallas Cowboys boss Jerry Jones has ‘pinch me’ moment after landing New England Patriots star in free agency

JERRY JONES admits he had a “pinch” me moment when the Dallas Cowboys snapped up Joe Milton.

The Cowboys bagged the quarterback as part of a 2025 NFL draft trade with the New England Patriots, which saw them give up their fifth-round pick.

Milton, 25, was one of the hottest prospects in the 2024 draft, in which he was the 193rd overall pick.

And Cowboys bigwig Jones is still coming to terms with his franchise landing Milton’s services, especially after the fine display he had in his last appearance for the Patriots.

He told 105.3 The Fan: “I really have to pinch myself that we got him after the last game that he had up there, starting there for New England.

“I’m just excited that we had a chance to get him and he hasn’t disappointed.

“He’s actually; we’re just more and more encouraged by what we’re seeing.”

Jones has been impressed by what he’s seen of Milton in pre-season training, so much so that he believes the Patriots made a mistake by letting him go.

He said of the former Michigan Wolverines star: “It’s clear that Milton has a very high ceiling.

“If he gets the chance to properly develop, Dallas could have something there.”

Milton made his Cowboys debut in Sunday’s pre-season loss to the Los Angeles Rams, but hobbled out of the match with a minor elbow injury.

He was very inconsistent, finishing the game 17-of-29 for 143 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

And he was highly critical of his performance, teling ESPN when asked to grade himself: “D, probably a D minus if I’m being hard on myself.

“I just gotta settle down early and make all those throws.”
