Dallas Cowboys first-round pick sensationally benched just one game into season as Cris Collinsworth predicts roster cut

THE Dallas Cowboys sensationally benched a first-round pick for their game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Defensive tackle Mazi Smith was chosen 26th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, and was seen a superstar of the future.

The Cowboys have struggled against the run for years, and that continued on Thursday night.

The Eagles rushed all over their NFC East rivals, eventually coming out on top 24-20.

America’s Team added Kenny Clark to their roster as part of the Micah Parsons trade to the Green Bay Packers.

But he struggled to help withstand the running game of the Eagles in the first-half.

And Smith being benched for the game proves they do not see him as a solution.

It was announced during the game the former Michigan DT was a healthy scratch.

And NBC broadcaster Cris Collinsowrth predicted the 24-year-old as as good as cut.

“If you’re inactive with what they’ve got at defensive tackle, that’s as close to being cut as you can be, he said.

“It’s quite the statement about your former number one pick.”

Smith has not lived up to the expectations the Cowboys had for him in 2023.

He has played 34 regular season games so far in his career.

However, he has started just 20 of these over the past two years.

It is now understood he will be part of a rotation going forward.

However, he could still be cut from the roster at some point in the future.

He has just two sacks so far in his NFL career.

It was an eventful night on Thursday at the Lincoln Financial Field.

Eagles star Jalen Carter was ejected just six seconds into the season.

He was seen spitting at Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

The defensive tackle is now facing an investigation from the league.

And he could face a further suspension punishment.
