Dallas Cowboys handed devastating blow on eve of season with fears over serious knee injury during Baltimore Ravens game

THE Dallas Cowboys have been dealt a major blow ahead of the NFL season.

During Saturday’s 13-31 preseason defeat to the Baltimore Ravens, wide receiver Jonathan Mingo landed awkwardly as he jumped for a Joe Milton III pass near the end zone.

Mingo could be out for multiple weeks, with fears he has injured the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee[/caption]

Mingo was seen limping to the sideline before going into the medical tent and was immediately ruled out.

It had come just one play after a 49-yard reception in the third quarter.

And franchise bosses now fear the 24-year-old has suffered an injury to the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed Mingo would undergo further testing over the weekend, including an MRI scan to determine the severity of the injury.

However, Mingo might need to miss multiple weeks, according to ESPN‘s Todd Archer.

And with the season less than weeks away it could have a huge impact on the teams 53-man roster.

The Cowboys acquired Mingo last year alongside a seventh-round 2025 draft pick in exchange for a fourth-round pick from the Carolina Panthers.

Mingo caught five passes for 46 yards across eight games, but did not have a reception from starting quarterback Dak Prescott.

The Ole Miss college graduate is registered as the backup for CeeDee Lamb.

He enjoyed a productive offseason with some impressive moments in training camp in Oxnard, California.

Doubts over Mingo’s availability could see the likes of Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks and Ryan Flournoy earn more minutes.

It comes just a week after new signing Rob Jones suffered a BROKEN NECK that has ruled him out for the season.

Jones broke a bone in his neck in the Cowboys’ first padded practice of training camp late last month.

He was, according to ESPN, initially given a “two-to-three-month” recovery period.

The uncertainty over his fitness led the Cowboys to place him on the injured reserve list.

Jones was seemingly set to back up frookie right guard Tyler Booker.

Upon learning of the severity of Jones’ injury, the Cowboys opted to fill his roster spot with Malik Davis.

They re-signed Davis a little over three months after releasing him from their roster.

Dallas have one more preseason game to play before kicking off their season against the reigning Super Bowl Champions, Philadelphia Eagles on September 5.

That clash is against the Atlanta Falcons on August 23.
