Bill Jarvis of Premium Paints even warned that moss and algae can be a “serious red flag”, adding: “As soon as the wet weather hits, that green growth turns into a real risk.”
But he added: “Luckily, you don’t need expensive chemicals to fix it.”
Indeed, white vinegar, a cheap and accessible household item that might already be sitting in your kitchen cupboard, can be used to clean away moss and algae from surfaces.
At Costco, for example, shoppers can pick up Four Monks Distilled White Vinegar, with two 1-gallon jugs available for cleaning larger areas or repeated use.
Walmart also offers similar products.
To use white vinegar, simply mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle or watering can, then apply the solution generously on a moss or algae-ridden surface.
Make sure you do this on a dry day and let the solution sit for 15 to 30 minutes, before scrubbing the area with a stiff broom.
Then, simply rinse with water.
Homeowners must act quickly though to avoid significant damage – ideally upon noticing moss or algae growing.
Early signs include slimy green patches or moss in shaded or moisture-trapping areas, especially during damp weather in September.
Elsewhere, a woman who laid out $677 at a car rental agency for a trip with her family then saw the same car at Costco for half the price.
Last week, Alex Petrakieva posted her story on TikTok explaining how she discovered she could have saved hundreds, leaving her shocked.
Petrakieva and her husband had rented a motor for seven days for a trip to Colorado after scouring online to compare prices and get the best deal.
She begins her video with the caption “don’t get robbed like us” and said: “I’m not sure who needs to hear this but I’m sure somebody does.”
They ultimately went with Alamo and paid a hefty $677.72 – this included $433.88 for the total time and distance and another $264.84 in taxes and other fees.
She said they thought it was a reasonable price up until she posted it online.
Petrakieva was flooded with messages saying she should have travelled using Costco instead.
