Day 4 of Lincoln County triple murder trial

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Monday was day four of testimony in the Justin Rackley triple murder trial.

Rackley is accused of shooting and killing three people and injuring two others during a get-together at a home on the southwest side of Sioux Falls last summer.

KELOLAND’s Jordan DeSmet is in the courtroom and will bring a full report on KELOLAND News

The lead detective and a forensic scientist testified Monday morning.

Testimony revealed when Rackley was in police custody, authorities found two cell phones on his person. One was Rackley’s, the other was victim Michael Thompson’s phone.

Ring video from the scene shows Thompson in possession of his phone 30 seconds before the shooting started.

Rackley’s wife called police to report him as missing after the shooting happened and the lead detective testified finding a gun case with a matching serial number to gun recovered at the scene when they searched Rackley’s house.

The forensic scientist says DNA on the gun used in the shooting could be found from Rackley and another man.

DeSmet will have more from inside the courtroom Monday afternoon.
